View Full Version : Unit: Korean Turtle Ship aaglo May 15, 2003, 12:31 AM updated version http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=80485 aaglo May 15, 2003, 12:32 AM Here's a sample of TurtleRun.flc aaglo May 15, 2003, 12:33 AM And here's where it all ends...:( Kal-el May 15, 2003, 12:43 AM I heard and obeyed. :scan: Ozymandias May 15, 2003, 12:46 AM Yet another excellent addition  ... Funny, also -- I've been giving a lot of thought to what New World civilizations might have accomplished without European interference, if for no other reason than to have some interesting UUs, and somehow my imagination can easily place this in a Caribbean Columbus never discovered ... -Oz Costa e Silva May 15, 2003, 01:14 AM Woh! This is a "needed" one! I love the euro units (i play with euro civs most of the time), but this doesn't mean that have to exist only then! I become happier when a new unit is for civs wich have just a few options. Thank you a lot! Costa e Silva May 15, 2003, 01:16 AM Japonese ships are like this? Kal-el May 15, 2003, 01:23 AM It's Korean, hence the name 'Korean Turtle Ship':crazyeye: god_money May 15, 2003, 01:40 AM Another incredible unit,... We're lucky to have you here, monsieur aaglo. aaglo May 15, 2003, 02:00 AM Originally posted by Kal-el I heard and obeyed. :scan: I like this. Obidience is :king: :egypt: Ossric May 15, 2003, 02:01 AM yes, yes, yes!!! Klyde182 May 15, 2003, 04:48 AM ;) Great work aaglo.... We're you unable to add in the flame attack to the dragon's head too... aaglo May 15, 2003, 05:23 AM Klyde, no. Your request just came a bit too late (I was already on my way home). ;) Deathwalker May 15, 2003, 05:30 AM Nice unit :) Klyde182 May 15, 2003, 05:44 AM Originally posted by aaglo Klyde, no. Your request just came a bit too late (I was already on my way home). ;) Don't quite understand what you mean Your request just came a bit too late (I was already on my way home). aaglo May 15, 2003, 05:48 AM Don't quite understand what you mean I have a work. I have internet access only at work. Got it? ;) Klyde182 May 15, 2003, 05:53 AM I got it:cool: Klyde182 May 15, 2003, 05:58 AM So I take it your back at work.....so how about the question about the flame attack? mrtn May 15, 2003, 06:11 AM Bad-ass! embryodead May 15, 2003, 06:24 AM I'll be boring and say :goodjob: Costa e Silva, late japanese ships were similiar, but without the "turtle" shell and retractable masts, more like junks. afaik only early jap ships were quite unique (sort of floating fortresses); someone posted a requests for those too. aaglo May 15, 2003, 06:28 AM Originally posted by Klyde182 So I take it your back at work.....so how about the question about the flame attack? I believe it would be a bit fantasy-like stuff... Hmm, someone else could edit the unit... add the flamethrower flames to the default pics... I wouldn't want to do that... ;) Yoda Power May 15, 2003, 07:49 AM very nice:goodjob: utahjazz7 May 15, 2003, 07:50 AM Woah! That's awesome, and you did it so quickly. I'm very impressed. :D edit: I just looked at the unit in FLICster, and it is easily some of the best custom work I've seen. Akula May 15, 2003, 07:57 AM Nice:D something to blow out of the water:p Costa e Silva May 15, 2003, 04:47 PM You're not close to be boring embryodead. You gime what i had search for when i ask. I understand a little about boats, asians even more, so i ask how were japs ones, to know if i use the junk-tongkang style or this. So thank you a lot. embryodead May 15, 2003, 06:54 PM i said i'll boring saying "goodjob" :) that's about the unit. Costa e Silva May 15, 2003, 08:58 PM Ahaha! Sorry for my confusion! My english is not good as it sould be... Well, thank you anyway. Kinboat May 15, 2003, 11:14 PM Wow... This looks amazing :) aaglo May 16, 2003, 12:32 AM Thank you for your compliments, you are too kind :worshp: Fëanor May 16, 2003, 04:14 PM well i was worried that the dragonhead and sails might not look good but it turned out reallly well , another great unit for the collection :) Colonel Kraken May 16, 2003, 04:42 PM Did you use a 3d program for this unit, Aaglo? Btw, excellent unit! AK KoRnEa May 16, 2003, 06:04 PM that looks great! thank you thank you! aaglo May 20, 2003, 06:44 AM Originally posted by Admiral Kraken Did you use a 3d program for this unit, Aaglo? Yes I did. www.povray.org is the place you can visit, and download the program I'm using .Yep, it's freeware, but the downside is the at-least-4-months-learning-curve  aaglo May 23, 2003, 12:19 AM I just noticed, that the TurtleLarge.pcx has wrong background colour index (255) which makes it transparent, and thus MAGENTA in the civilopedia. Here are the new ones ;) The same problem is also atleast in the B-29, Bristol Beaufighter, He-111 bomber and Me-110's. And propably in the Gloster gladiator too... :( Here's the new pcx-file ;) Ossric May 23, 2003, 08:48 AM there a same transparency problem with the dragons picture for civilopedia.. could you put the new large.pcx in a zip file please, i can only save it as a btmp or tif. I cannot convert them into pcx.. aaglo May 26, 2003, 12:15 AM Dragons? I don't know what you are talking about... :hmmm: TVA22 May 26, 2003, 03:17 AM has anybody tested this unit in game? I have, and it looks great, though there seems to be a problem... When the ship is on offense, it operates properly--turns and fires it's broadsides... but when attacked, that is when the ship is defending, it does not rotate, the opposing/attacking ship just runs onto the same tile and they appear to ram on the bows, and fire their broadsides off to the side. I'm not crazy, have a look at this thread, it's a problem with quite a few ships. Don't believe me? download the scenario and tell me what I've done wrong. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52887 Ossric May 28, 2003, 11:59 AM aaglo: well someone made some dragons (white, red, green, blue? & black) Nice graphics & sound but the civilopedia pcx has transparency problems. (you can find them in the unit library if you're interested) Yoda Power May 28, 2003, 01:49 PM Originally posted by Ossric aaglo: well someone made some dragons (white, red, green, blue? & black) Nice graphics & sound but the civilopedia pcx has transparency problems. (you can find them in the unit library if you're interested) Kinboat made those Dragons, methinks jo yong re May 13, 2004, 02:54 AM It's Korean, hence the name 'Korean Turtle Ship':crazyeye:I agree, koreans made it so we should get the creddit. jo yong re May 13, 2004, 02:58 AM To my knowledge, this unit has been wanted to the game before the game was even released. Bring on the bad-ass asian ship! Download (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/KoreanTurtleShip.zip) can it shoot fire out of the dragons mouth IbnSina May 13, 2004, 10:48 AM I'm going to have to put more memory in my computer to handle all the great units you're making! I'm starting to get complaints about using virtual memory because I've installed almost all of your units. It's worth it. Thanks! xtroop May 14, 2006, 11:47 PM Looks great! FYI, for those who might not know, the turtle ships were ironclads (world's first), and they were used against the Japanese navy (which was the best in Asia and perhaps in the world at the time) and anihilated it despite being outnumbered hundreds to one. Basically an invulnerable ship for the time, and technological triumph. Olorin0222 May 15, 2006, 12:06 AM No reason to revive a two-year-dead thread now... Goldflash May 15, 2006, 02:03 AM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtle_Ship This unit is mentioned on Wikipedia |
