Well, I'm sure we've all heard the news about the second XP. Personally, I'm pretty excited about it. Anyway, one of the best things about PTW in my opinion was the extra unit packs, and I hope they give us some more in Conquest. So, what specific unit packs, or units, would any of you like to see?

Here are a few of mine:

Napoleonic
More WW2
Sci-Fi
Fantasy

The more the merrier certainly applies here, but you can't have everything. I'm not expecting any more than five...and that's pushing it.

Here's a possible WW1 pack:
French Infantry
British Infantry
German Infantry
Russian Infantry
American Infantry
Zeppelin
Allied Biplane
German Biplane
Early U-Boat
Early Destoyer
Battle Cruiser
Dreadnought
Machine Gunners
Heavy Artillery
Big Bertha

Kinboat's tanks pretty well cover the armor area

I'm afraid we won't see much unit packs. I asked it during the last chat with Firaxians, and the answer was "No new units are being done or scheduled right now".
So:
- Either they have done it already
- Either they will simply use existing unit packs, and make them really usable in scenarios (adding civilopedia image, etc).

Which means people will need PTW or what ?

BTW I wait eagerly for a Cossack units pack ;) :D

About Napoleonic units : I am preparing a small pack by cut/paste and modifs of existing units. I am working on all of them at the same time so as to release them together. So don't expect it next week or so but a preview of all defaults should be available in two weeks or so.
This will include :

France - Imperial Guard :
Grenadiers, Empress dragoons, Polish lancers

Russia :
Musketeer, grenadiers

Austria:
German infantry

Bavaria :
Infantry (early) / dragoon

Spain :
Infantry

Vistul Legion (Polish fighting for France and Saxony)
Infantry / lancers

You got a preview of the grenadier already (though I have modified it a bit). Quality is not professional but that will be it.

Sorry for advertising ....

My wish would be to have a slinger (so that we get the animation at least).
Middle-East, China and Amerindians would be my first wishes for unit packs. I don't think we will see them though.

I'd like to see a pack with variants on the Pikeman and Musketman (yes, the old-school muskets used by the "musketman" unit, not british foot guards and such). I'd love to see a scenario based around that era.

It could be done with Cossacks units.

Thanks but I have got the books too. ;) But I hope you can be the judge.

Sween, if I finally finish all I have started... and when Cossaks units are all ready, I will do a XVII-XVIIIth century...

check out the front page of CFC. there are links to the features and some screen shots for Conquest.

There are going to be 8 Firaxis Scenarios basedon 8 separate times.

Conquest will be separate from PtW meaning you don't need PtW to play Conquest.

They mention The Maya and Sumerians among the eight new civilizations

The Screen shots show an Inca Scout, an Enkidu Warrior, a trbuchet and a Mayan Javilineer along with two leader heads, one of Gilgamesh of Sumeria and the other of Mursilis of the Hittites.

They also mention a new Government, the Islamic Sultanate and new resources Jade and Exotic Birds.

From this basic information a few things can be deduced.

1) It is pretty clear that there will be a MesoAmerican Scenario, whether that be set in ancient MesoAmerica or with the Spanish Conquest of America I am not sure. Sounds like at least the Mayans and the Inca with a whole new Unit set. I am guessing the Exotic Birds goes with this scenario.

2) There is obviously going to be a scenario set in ancient Messopotamia to use the Sumerians. I would expect a whole new unit set for this scenario as well.

3) The new Sultanate government type leads me to believe there will be a Middle Ages scenario, possibly a Crusades type. Probably no new Civs for this one, but maybe a few more units for the Middle Eastern civs plus the Trebuchet.

4) There will most likely be a WWII Scenario, and that will probably use the animations from PtW. No new Civs, maybe a few more units but I doubt it.

5) There will probably be a Japanese scenario to use the Japanese Units from Ptw and the new Jade resource. No new civs, no new units.

That leaves 3 open Scenarios.

Unfortunately they are keeping the testers pretty much in the dark on what we can expect in Conquest so all these conclusions are just guesses.

If I am not correct that they will be using the PtW units for Conquest then either we won't see a WWII and a Japanese Scenario of we will see new units in Conquest. I can't imagine that they would create a whole new set of units for these scenarios so I think it is more likely that they just include the PtW units in C3Q.

I am pretty sure Japan and WWII scenarios were mentionned in the press release so they will be there.

I hope they put extra units with these scenarios but I would prefer a real robust editor for scenario creation and things that should (from my limited point of view of course) be easy to implement such as sharing flags for all improvements and both small and great wonders, the possibility to make luxuries become obsolete, the possibility of buildings/governments being a prerequisite for some units creation and a variable upkeep cost (mercenaries).

Speaking about testers, Kal-El, were you one of them for PtW with DYP and should I send them my maps (list will be longer before it starts shipping) ?

And Kal-El, do not be afraid by my Napoleonic list of units, I will do the rifle cameleer.

I am a tester for Firaxis, and I think you should send them your maps.

Yes, please finish the Beduin Raider. :)

The new civs, units, resources... will be used IN the 8 scenarios.
What does tha mean ? Everything is triggered for hardcoded scenarios but not for the standard editor ?
If so

its just like PtW, there will be unit packs that the scenarios will be directed to use, but they wilkl not br restricted to only those 8.

Honestly I don't care for themed unit packs - CFC serves this purpose much better. Even if they are any packs, don't expect anything non-Civ3 (ie. Fantasy, Sci-Fi) - that would probably need another EXP. I would rather like to see new units inside civ3 (apart from UU's) - like Guerilla and Med. Infantry in PtW and a major overhaul of the editor...

Kal-el, maybe u know - how this will affect mod creation? Will we be forced to create a mod version for C3C, another one for PtW and another one for C3C+PtW? Or will C3C editor have all features from PtW (for players now owning PtW)? I doubt they will include ie. Med. Infantry, and what if a mod references to it? Too many players "skipped" PtW... :/

Actually Id rather see a improvement of the editor and, if possible, an event editor

Kal-el

From reading the press release I think we can expect an improved editor and an events editor.

I think we will probably have to make a PtW version and a C3Q version, and maybe a PtW+C3Q version, but I really don't know. I know right now we on the DyP team are planning to have three versions of the mod and dump the regular version.
