Woohoo, My favourite fantasy unit! I didn't think Any one would ever make this little guy.. :D

I'm not much of a fantasy fan these days, but I'll definately play any scenario with this guy in..
Ive always wanted to play civ as an evil necromancer. :D

It is a fantasy monster from Dungeons & Dragons. I believe the name comes from the phrase "Eye of the beholder", because it has ten eyes. In D&D each eye has a different special ability--they are nasty monsters to fight.

Great job Kinboat. :)

nasty doesn't describe the things enough, i lost 110 followers in the game to a group 7. I was royally pissed cause my leadership rating was too low for me to get anymore followers  AD&D owns

[they died because me and my party were trying to distract a Tarrasque and escape but they got trapped in a room with the Beholders. I know the DM didnt like me having a army but 7 beholders killing them off made me feel a little... helpless, just goes to show you shouldn't put all your faith and trust into something because you will lose it.]

Has anyone seen the Futurama episode, where Hermes has to retrieve benders brain from the central Beuracracy?

The bit with the beholder...They all sneak past this thing...bender walks through the door, He wakes up, spraying all these crazy laser beams..."What ? What? Please dont tell my supervisor I was sleeping"

There are really neat beholder models in the Baldur's Gate series. I mean they look downright nasty, but well textured.

..... and in one of them I remember you can become friendly with one, and convince it to let you have the treasure it's been gaurding for 300 years...

Yeah I remember that episode :)

And I assure you that none of my beholders will be giving away their treasure :)

Finally Completed All the Sounds for Kinboat's Beholder. I made All Original Sounds and they will work well in game with any settings you like.
...I altered the AttackA flc speed from the Original due to the unit playing AttackB when it retreated from a battle as a fast unit. This Zip contains the altered AttackA flc, All Sounds and the .ini file.

Size: 397 KB Get the Download Here: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/Beholder_Sounds,_AttackA_and_ini.zip

This is an updated BeholderAttackA.wav for anyone who is experiencing a "glitch" with AttackA. I did not notice or have any problem until changing Operating Systems with a new computer. In any case, This corrects the problem: Overwrite with the small Zip below

I put a lot of time into creating the sounds...Hope you all like them and that they do justice to this Fine unit. Great Fantasy unit Kinboat...having Much Fun with it!

Bepending on your sound system, you may want to Lower the sound for the Run and AttackB, especially if many are in your Game.
Comments welcome

For any who can use it, here is a Civilopedia.txt for the Beholder by Kinboat. Because I use Kinboat's Green Dragon as a Faster Unit, it is reflected in this .txt, however, this can be changed to fit your game Civilopedia.txt easily.

#PRTO_Beholder
^
^
^The [Beholder] is an Extremely Fast Alien Creature armed with Deadly Weapons.
#DESC_PRTO_Beholder
^
^
^The [Beholder] was a Fierce Alien Creature discovered during the Middle Ages. They came to earth on meteors and
were soon captured, bred and trained to fight for their Owners. Armed with Tremendously Powerful Teeth and Multiple
Eyes that produced Powerful Laser Rays, the [Beholder] was Feared by all Civilizations. The [Beholder] was the Fastest
moving Creatures known to exist with the exception of the Japanese Green Dragons. The [Beholder] was Greatly Treasured
for its Unique, Strange and Powerful abilities in Battle. Its Fast Speed and Great Powers made it a Seriously Deadly
Fighting Unit, striking Fear and Horror in all who Battled it.

I was wondering if anyone else was going to do anymore fantasy monsters or creatures? Maybe a unicorn, sphinx, harpy, gargoyle, elementals, dragon turtle, lycanthrope, displacer beast, giant ants, or an actaeon(elk centaur). I can describe these if anyone is interested in making them.

I had a Sea Serpent planned... And I might get back to it at some point... Those others sound like cool ideas too.

I would just like to take a moment to say.. this unit really creeps me out! lol I'm testing it in game for the first time as an early unit with all terrain as roads. They came swarming through jungles like it was nothing and really gave me the jitters. LOL Gotta love it. :D
