Well now that the game is out and it's established that it isn't anything close to a TBS, but still an awesome RTS, we can start talking strategy. So let the discussions begin!

If you could pick 3 wonders, 1 from every 2 consecutive ages, which wonders would they be?

Example:
Colossus - Classical
Versailles - Enlightment
Space Program - Information

You guys mind posting your choices too with maybe some explanation too? Just to make this more interesting. ;)

In my case, I love the Colossus, since it's an early and very cheap wonder, so it isn't too hard to get it built, while you'll be enjoying it for a while. It gives you a huge boost on wealth, which means more scholars, so you have extra knowledge and wealth, which you use to reaserch a lot of science tech, which means the other techs would be much cheaper. Also gives you some extra pop incase you want to attack early on, and increases the commerce cap on timber, which is just another plus. :)

The next is the Palace of Versailles, its pretty simple, I begin all my offensive after I build it, after already having many supply wagons in stock, with some good artilerry power, I can march into enemy territory and get my troops healed in no time. Also all the non-knowledge costs of reaserch reduced by 50% helps a ton, especially later in the game when oil is only introduced, gives you a head start on techs that require a lot of oil while you still have little of it.

And the space program speaks for itself, see everything on the map, and nukes, missiles and aircraft are faster and cheaper. So it's basically time for a nuclear holocaust, if you planned right and reaserched missile defence early, you can start nuking the hell out of every major city on the map, while being immune to nuclear embargo.

So here we go, what are your wonder strategies guys?

I don't have three favorites, just one. The Terra Cotta Army, I love those free units.

So you're saying you only build one wonder through the whole course of the game?

You gotta build at least one more, if not two, and if you were given the choice, which ones will they be?

I would have to say Versailles is my most favorite. I love supply wagons being able to heal!

terra cotta: being able to get light inf free is awesome, spares me 1/3 of my infantry expenses :)
statue of liberty: what isnt to like? free upgrades, no attrition rocks the world
versailles: healing supply is nice always, especially after SoL tho, when you can heal without worrying about attrition

1. Colossus - Those 50 extra units.. A true gamewinner :goodjob:

2. Versailles - Must.. own.. it :D

3. Colosseum - Attrition damage is always nice, but Colossus and Versailles are the only one I really must have :)

BTW: I never play past enlightment age, so I barely know the wonders past that age...

Eiffel tower; oil is always short in lategame, and that boosts it so much! (of course, the people i play with are builders like myself so we actually get to lategame :p )

that's the most important to me, but kremlin is definitely good for the attrition and great economic bonuses for food, timber, and metal.

The Kremlin, Colosseum and Taj Mahal

The Kremlin but now that I got and wasted (compared to Civ3) the expansion Red Fort owns all. This is because I like to build lots of Defense with around 4-6 border forts in a small-medium amount of space. Combined with the versailes being Russian or Rome your defense is truely the best offense-till the day 100 bombers take your Red Wonder alway ...lol

Statue of Liberty - good time saver, not having to go around and upgrade everything (by now, I already have an economy that the tech costs dont affect much).

Terra Cotta Army: Speaks for itself

Colossus: Good for early wars, the +50 helps a lot.

Any civ can build these wonders.

Colosseum-- watch those borders just fly across the map+attrition and cheaper forts.
Supercollider-- instant research!
Space program-- I see you!!

Sorry for breaking the rules but i love the information age. :D

Instead of 3, i just love 2 of them, the "must haves" wonders of RoN:
terra cotta - helps in midgame warfares, too bad civ3 doesn't have such a feature
Versailles - save alot of resources if u can heal troops as they fight

I can live with just these 2 wonders, Feels like resigning if i lost them or beaten to it by my opponents....

heres "Good to have" depending on how the game progresses:
space program - it would be a "must have" if it can be made accessible much earlier
Colossus - if its civ3, it would be a "must have"
super collider - again, too late in the game, often its effects are no longer much useful
Liberty - if i have spare resources

I hardly built other wonders before...

I have to say:
Terracota army-free units own, though they sometimes mess up my plans with other units...
Colossus-increases population limit...
Space program- it help very much if you can see the whole world map

Supercollider: I usually build it before the last four researches in the library.
Terra Cotta Army: Free troops are good, because I don't consciously keep my military buildup
Versaille: Reduce the research cost.

Colossus if I play a low population game. and Statue of liberty if I play rush games.

some calculation about the Terra Cotta Army

the formula is turth only if you build no infantry.

Let you gain (n+1)LI form TCA for total all. Then in an hour:
30+(30+0.5)+(30+1)+(30+1.5)+……+(30+0.5n)=3600
n=73.44
So you can only gain 74 free LI, IF YOU BUILD NO INFANTRY.
Others useful results

If you want an army,I suggest building other economical benefited wonders, then build it by yourself.

I'm not so much of an attacker as I am a defender (God, I can'ty believe I uninstalled this tosave space! now I wanna play again!) I still like Terra Cotta to buildup a defense force while still not spending anything on an armed force. The Effel Tower is great and the Space Program for a buildup to a nuclear war. whee!

What I don't understand is why the Taj Mahal is so late, it was built in the Gunpowder Age -_-

Not sure what they all do, but oh well.
BTW< I'm going to totally ignore that statement about teh consecutive ages :P

And, teh winners are...
The Terra Cotta Army
The Palace of Versailes
THe Statue of Liberty
