View Full Version : C3MT - Civ3MultiTool (Second CFC Thread)
happy612 Feb 02, 2004, 04:07 PM The other thing I have noticed is that when the map is exported it is about 449KB in size. Whether or not I make any changes if I just open and save it it reduces the file size to 42KB. Not sure if that is normal.
Also one of my prvious posts was incorrect. Whether or not I make any changes to the map it still imports incorrectly. The previous changes I made where in the save game tool specifically not on the map... SO once I open the exprted map in the editor and then save it whether or not I made any changes it causes the same problem.
I am attaching the Maps for your review as well.
Mine.Bix is the original and Mine2.bix was just opened and then saved in the editor. No changes. As stated earlier the save are to large to post here
GIDustin Feb 02, 2004, 06:17 PM Just looked at the newest version. Looks great. Found a few spelling errors, so I spell checked the entire file.
- GIDustin
Gramphos Feb 03, 2004, 01:06 AM Did you spellcheck the stringfile too?
(c3mt.txt) (It's included by the override file)
Gramphos Feb 03, 2004, 01:20 AM happy612,
C3MT does not compress files, that is the reason for size differences between ediotor or game generated files against the files by C3MT.
If you zip the saves together, and use the upload feature (link at bottom of the pages you will be able to post them here)
Mendax Feb 03, 2004, 03:47 PM attached - polish file for 1.09.1
Gramphos: in TTB is there a way to show coordinates (X,Y) of the techboxes while moving them?
(CG)Mendax
happy612 Feb 03, 2004, 07:38 PM Gramphos;
The files are uploaded here
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/happy612.zip
Mine is the original and the mine1.sav is the modified one...
Let me know what you find.

Not in this version. TTB was just something I did to test ho mush faster my new PCX handling was, and I didn't have to mush time to put in to it.
computerdude113 Feb 07, 2004, 11:45 AM Now this may seem like a silly question, and to be honet it is, but what files do I need to download to get the newest version of this tool?
I am running C3C without the BETA patch
Gramphos Feb 07, 2004, 12:38 PM The Full install and the small v1.09.1 zipfile
computerdude113 Feb 07, 2004, 02:55 PM See, I thought it was a stupid question, thanks for your help anyway.
Gramphos Feb 08, 2004, 01:19 AM Nah, it can be a little confusing due to the long time the tool has been around. Before v1.0 it was possible to get the tool working by just getting the right VB runtimes, controls as well as the latest zip, but since 1.0 it has been required to use the full install.
computerdude113 Feb 08, 2004, 09:25 AM Hey, I just loaded this and it's amazing, I do have a problem though, mabey you can help me out.
The Tech Tree Builder window is too small. I've tested the mod I'm trying to edit in the game, and I know that the tech tree works in-game, but I can't see the whole thing here, and it's a bit annoying.
Otherwise, this tool is AMAZING
thanks!
Gramphos Feb 08, 2004, 11:49 AM Are you using 1.09.1? 1.09 had a bug with small fonts scaling the tech tree form incorrectly.
If you are then what is your resolution, and fontsize setting?
You may try to double click on the tech tree background one or two times to toggle scaling (I'll move that to a menu in an upcoming version, it was just some code I didn't finish for 1.09, but that was done with 1.09.1 but I didn't have time to think of the interface)
Corn Shucker Feb 17, 2004, 07:43 PM Question: what is this?
redrush2k Feb 28, 2004, 02:00 PM Hey Gramphos,
Could you or someone equally familiar with the Multitool write a thorough guide to its uses? I am experienceing difficulty in using the Tech tree builder, unit creater and civilopedia editor (I dont know how to use them correctly). It would help out alot.
redrush2k Feb 28, 2004, 02:07 PM For example, in the TTB I can drag techs all I want, but I cant choose between era backrounds or create my own backround (with custom arrows/paths). In the civilopedia is there a way to delete listings? So far all I can do is add entries, and when I add them I still cannot edit the Pediaicon file with it. Its just a little confusing and blunt. I couldnt find answers to these and other questions in the readme provided....
Gramphos Feb 29, 2004, 08:43 AM TTB currently loads the graphics in the scenario search folder of the scenario.
Right now I'm to bussy to write any instructions, or make any major enhancements to the tool. I have soe chanes planned, but they will probably take some time to make, and bfore that time I'll need to get the time to do so.
While it is fun to work with the multitool it doesnot feed me. And I now have to spend most of my time studying to get ennough ponts to have student funds.
redrush2k Feb 29, 2004, 04:03 PM no problem. I know how to do all the work manually, its just tedious and time consuming. good luck with your studies.
Bobisback Mar 09, 2004, 12:54 PM Gramphos how does the WW points work, in the Save game editor.
Gramphos Mar 09, 2004, 05:10 PM Look for the WW thread somewhere on this forum, I think that these points corelate to the temporary warweariness you have to a civ, but I addede it a long time ago, and currently don't have time to look up the actual functionality again.
superd707 Mar 11, 2004, 08:35 PM Gramphos (or anyone else who has done it successfully)
1st Great Tool, but do you know if V1091 works with C3C to export savegame rules? C3C editor says invalid scenerio file after I try to edit the rules after I create the biq from the C3Mt export. It then opens to a blank map. I've tried with all options and just Rules checked. Thanks for the help.
Bobisback Mar 11, 2004, 08:50 PM no it does not work for C3C:(
Gramphos Mar 12, 2004, 12:58 AM It sets the BIQ header incorrectly in some cases.
I will try to update this after my exams but before the next reading period starts.
welsh888 Mar 14, 2004, 07:17 AM Gramphos - I really like your editor - I can't imagine how much time and effort you must've spent on it. :king:
I am trying to edit a save game for my european 1900 scenario and have been told that I can use your editor to 'simulate' ethnic minorities living with the various Empires of Europe.
Would you know if I can use your editor in this way?
Gramphos Mar 14, 2004, 02:47 PM I'm not sure exactly what you want to do. The current version is not very stable, and is in need of a total remake of some central parts, which I never get the time to do. It's a wonder it still works...
Lambda Mar 16, 2004, 07:33 AM your SE seems to me to have many issues to solve in C3C save games, are you aware of them? i would like to know if we will be able to get a more stable version in your SE.
GREAT JOB, GREAT UTILITY! civ2 map converter owns! THNX gramphos
Gramphos Mar 16, 2004, 03:53 PM Rigt now the S[G?]E development stands still due to other areas of coding. Bothe other scripts/programs and also other parts of the current program. I'm aware of many unstable things in the current version, but most of it is dueto lack of knowledge of the saveformat, and incorrect assumptions. Some are due to things have changed since earler versions, thus meaning that a value that is said to ba something actualy represents something totally different, or that something that has been editable before nolonger is due to references to it.
There may of cource be pure code bugs as well. all these problemst take a significant ammount of time to correct, and the time I spend on Windows programming has decresaed alot this last year. I have moved into programming alot more under linux and unix, and then have less time to update this utility. I also have had a big change in my life situation with a lot less sparetime left for programming overall. I'm very unsure on how my spare time actually is spread, but there are still some time left that I spend on this utility. Howvever, my toppriority on my todo list is actually a total recoding of the BIC/BIX/BIQ handling of the tool. It is the oldest component, and isn't bery well built. (The base was designed with the Copytool in mind, and now many things have changed, and I want to make a new and flexible system for this) Once that system is done (or at least is at working prototype level, I might look into how I can make the Save reading/eriting more stable I will probalby have to rewrite lage parts, and alos try to figure out what defines the size of different sections that currently are searched for the end of in a very unsafe, but in 99% working, way)
I will also try to improve the overall error hadling and logging alot. The session log system that was introduced around the c3C support has helped me alot in finding bugs, and I hope to be able to build it out to be able to record why a save fails to load and problems with reasvng in a way that will make finding the error even easier.
But still everything is about finding the time to do so.
Lambda Mar 16, 2004, 04:32 PM S[G]E :P
thnx for d answer, even if u cant do improvements in the SGE....it is already a great SGE, the last one i used could only load non compressed games, aka, civ3 no exp :\
good luck man, this is indeed a great tool
Gramphos Mar 23, 2004, 08:59 AM The latest versions of SGE does not work with vanilla Civ3. I'll investigate this and try to come up with a fix as soon as I find the time to do so.
Sun_Ce Mar 26, 2004, 12:16 PM Will this be upgraded to C3C 1.15b?
stgelven Mar 26, 2004, 01:15 PM Gramphos, you done a great work, i understand that fou don't have all your time, just a request ( if it not too long to do) is it possible to introduce a fleches library or something like that in the tech tree? like that we can move tech and link them with the fleches. if its not to long, hug!
anyway you already did a lot! :goodjob:
Bobisback Mar 26, 2004, 01:29 PM it somwhat works for version 1.15 C3C I use it all the time.
Gramphos Mar 26, 2004, 02:35 PM THe tool has split into two branches on my development side. One that I'll try to keep working with the upcoming patches, but not mush more, and another one that will have the new BIC system once it is finalized. The reason for this split is that the old system has grew too big and updating it to work with more version always seems to introduce new bugs. I hope that the new BIC handling system in development will solve those problems, but as it currently stands I have no timeline for any update. At least I can say that there won't be any update before the next patch is released. And depending on how mush time I have to spend on my tool before that time I may release the old branch only, or one from both, or just the new brance. All depends on how my new codbase works out. I'm currently at an early alpha state, and hope to be able to load a full BIC file with the new system by the end of this weekend.
yanndom Apr 05, 2004, 08:56 AM It doesn't work with Patch 1.20 Cqc....
Gramphos Apr 05, 2004, 02:30 PM Nope. I'm aware of that. The problem is that the codebase is undergoing some changes and currently is full of memory leaks and other stuff, so I can't create a new version yet. And it will probably take another week before I can have anything slightly buildable.
recon1591 Apr 05, 2004, 07:14 PM Gramphos,
how do u go from 1 tech era to another with this program to move techs around. it only loads the first era and won't move to the next. and does it save back to a c3c biq or just ptw bix. and if only back to a bix do u have to redo the whole thing again in the c3c editor.
Gramphos Apr 06, 2004, 12:49 PM Try to chnage to large fonts in Windows.
If thast works, what is your OS? And does it crop the bottom of the frame.
Also try to double click on the techtree.
recon1591 Apr 06, 2004, 02:33 PM i'm running XP and yes it cuts the bottom off the screen and will only let u load the 1st era. running 1.09.1, i think thats u're latest.
Gramphos Apr 07, 2004, 04:22 AM Did you try to double click on the era background?
What are your resolutin. (Everything works fine with XP Home when I test it)
recon1591 Apr 07, 2004, 07:00 AM yep i tried and sorry got to going with it and forgot to post. U're right, if u DC on it, it will work. Thanks and this makes it so much easier then waiting 2 1/2 hrs each time for SOE and SOP to load.
Baron Rakkan Apr 10, 2004, 04:56 AM Hi,
yesterday I upgraded the C3MT to v1.10 to use it for the C3C v1.22(stand alone version). When I used the SGE for adding units the message 'Data system error: UNIT' appeared. Has anyone ideas, what the problem is, or did I make a fault?
Thanks
Gramphos Apr 10, 2004, 09:48 AM Probably because I don't hve time to make sure additons work with C3C yet. it doesn't work with any version of C3C.
Skyeye Apr 12, 2004, 02:56 PM This has probably been asked before, but does this work with Civ III Gold Edition?
Gramphos Apr 13, 2004, 03:13 AM I think so. GE is Civ3 + PTW, so there should be no difference.
CCJ39 Apr 13, 2004, 09:59 AM hm, I think try it ;)
@Gramphos
in RAM it isn't the same, adresses are different from PtW and normal Civ3
Gramphos Apr 13, 2004, 03:26 PM Good that I'm not making a trainer then ;)
TETurkhan Apr 17, 2004, 06:50 PM I will put you on my christmas list if you can make this C3C compatible!? :worship:
Gramphos Apr 18, 2004, 03:09 AM 100% C3C compability might happen in the futere, but until summer I'm studying over full time and I don't know how mush time I can spend on development.
jeannie May 05, 2004, 11:09 AM When I try to download version 1.10 from the Apolyton site, my browser pops up a window to go to address http://joetec.net/adserv/between3.php?User_Id=253&img=http://207.44.245.200/Apolyton-60.gif&height=60&width=255&url=http%3A%2F%2Fciv3files.apolyton.net%2Futilitie s%2FC3MTfull.exe
and then just hangs. This happens whether I use Internet Explorer or Opera.
When I try to download the 'small' version (1.09.1), my browsers work properly - they come up with a window asking whether I want to save the file and so on. Unfortunately, I'm already running that version, and I'm hoping to get to run your latest!
I'm using Windows XP Home edition.
Any suggestions?
Dianthus May 05, 2004, 11:11 AM Have you tried pressing the "Skip" link at the top of the page?

I posted this same problem on the Apolyton site, and Gramphos answered it within minutes - it turns out that I had to turn off my ad blocking software temporarily (I'm using Norton Internet Security).
sudduth28 May 18, 2004, 10:26 PM Hi Gramphos,
your CMT is fantastic...I do have a bit of a problem though. I downloaded the latest version from Appolyton, used it several times during a PTW game I was playing, and then eventually shut down my computer (it was tired)...when I restarted and tried to use the tool again I get 'Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range'. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could correct this? I've tired reinstalling, but it hasnt helped...
Thx :)
stgelven Jun 03, 2004, 03:13 PM hi everybody,
i have a problem, i used multitool, to make a tree tech, it's fantastic! BUT, how do i do to have the arrows following the techs?
KZed Jun 03, 2004, 03:17 PM Hi Gramphos,
The editor is great, both for modifying saved games and for gathering information about opponents.
One thing I don't understand is that why is there so much difference when I do a file comparison between an uncompressed saved game and the same saved game loaded into the editor then saved without making any changes. (Editor version 1.10, Civ3 Conquest v1.20, custom senarios with custom rules)
Could you share the saved game uncompression algorithm?
Thanks.
Dianthus Jun 03, 2004, 03:27 PM Could you share the saved game uncompression algorithm?
The one I use is Blast by Mark Adler. It can be found at http://datacompression.info/LZSS.shtml. Just search for "Free DCL Decompressor". If anyone knows of a some free code for compressing please let me know!
Gramphos Jun 04, 2004, 04:28 AM Hi Gramphos,

It may be both due to bugs, and to the way I work with VB depending on what is changed.
THings thhat are changed: All strings will be fully null-padded to the end of the field size, and not just one null char at the end of the string. This does some number of changes from loading ad saving.
Also some changes are in non-important areas of the saves taging it as edited by my tool (to help protecting GOTMs)
There may however be chagnes that do corrupt certain saves, especially C3C ones since I've not had ennough time to dig into all the new save parts, and made many assumptions that are in the current version.
As for the decompressing code you may take a look at the CPT sourcecode that I've posted somewherre (probably on Poly and maybe here as well)
the mormegil Jun 05, 2004, 09:30 AM When I use the save game editor and try to save the edited game this happens...

Drivebymaster Jun 29, 2004, 05:12 PM Ok a question and sorry I am lazy but is their a C3C tool? Because I can't get the saved game editor to work!!!!!!!!!! with my C3C saved games
Gramphos Jun 30, 2004, 01:24 AM It is supposed to work with C3C, but it's not compatible with scenarios with locked alliances
mjkl Jul 02, 2004, 01:29 PM what about crashin on save Gramphos? i always get this error:

Ketzicle Jul 06, 2004, 07:52 PM Hey Gramphos. Excellent tool! But there's one problem... it's not working for me. =/
Whenever I try to run the Unit Creation Wizard, it brings me to the main menu: "Civ3CopyTool, SaveGame Modifier, etc."
I click Unit Creation Wizard, of course. The main menu closes, the Windows displays that ungodly "This program has crashed, would you like to send an error report to Satan's headquarter's or not?" message.
I'm running Winduhs XP Home, and here is whatever information I could dig up on the problem:

Assuming your using the patched version of Civ 3, Load the EDITOR it'self, load your .bic file, then you should see a drop down box in the uper right hand corner with citizens in it, beside this there should be a button labeled edit, you can do either one of 2 things from here. 1. Change the drop down untill you se units, or 2. click on the edit button and use the tabs to goto the units. Once in the units display just find the unit you dont want and DELETE it using the delete button in the editor.
Be sure to back up your .bic file so you don't do this to it :nuke:
Supa Aug 30, 2004, 02:45 PM Hello Gramphos,
C3MT Tech Builder doesn't seem to work with C3C1.22 biq. It worked fine with 1.15. Could you take a look ?
Edit : Don't mind, I found the last version at Apolyton. It works now :)
Booga Sep 05, 2004, 10:17 AM Maybe i'm just an Idiot, Probably am. How do you get to the Modern era in the Tech tree editor? When i load my scenario, it brings up the Ancient Science advisor tech tree, but gives me no way to advance to the Medievil, Industrial, or modern tech trees. Like i said, i'm probably an idot, i haven't seen any other post asking about this so i'm probaly just missing it. Any body know what i'm talking about?
Supa Sep 05, 2004, 10:30 AM It's the very same way as in game :)
Booga Sep 05, 2004, 11:06 AM I figured it out... It's not just like in the game. When it's full screen there isn't a next era button. at least not on mine... But i figured out that if you double click the background it will make the screen mabout 1/4 size, and thier you see a advance to next era button. double click again to get the full screen back. Sorry for the supid question. thanx Supa
Gramphos Sep 05, 2004, 01:08 PM If you are using the 1024x768 resolution it is fully possible that the menu brings the era button to beneth the screen, since the client area is full 1024x768 resolution, but then you have other GUI components. I might make it reall full screen for that resolution in a later version. But the TTB was initaly just a benchmarking thing for my PCX support. But when I improved the PCX handling I decided to make the final things that were needed to turn it into what it is now.
Scottish_Piper Sep 08, 2004, 08:04 PM I just wanted to report what I believe were bugs with the Multitool. Recently I was editing a save from the Conquests expansion (I haven't checked to see if it happens with the original or PTW yet) and decided that I was getting quite frustrated with the Byzantines constantly sending their Dromons into my territory. So using the SaveGame Editor I deleted every Dromon I could find (as well as any units on them to avoid possible errors.) Once I reloaded the game, however, there they were, still floating outside my borders and moving around when their turn came. When I reentered the editor, I found that according to it they were still deleted, so I tried reloading the save again and there they were.
Another problem I've had, which I believe I've seen posted here but just in case, is that I decided I wanted to get rid of these Dromons without sparking war (I had a few good deals going with the Byzantines and I didn't want to wreck them.) So I tried to create a Privateer to use for that purpose. I created two units at that time, a settler and then the Privateer. After trying to load the game I got an error and decided to check the editor again, where upon I discovered my Privateer had become a Barbarian Settler with the number assignment "0," even though it was at the bottom and there was, of course, already a "0" at the very top.
In line with that, one time I was constantly getting errors with my units and went into the editor to see that a number of units had turned into the Barbarian Settlers, all assigned to "0." Originally there were over 1000 units in the game, but now it ended at 400-something, followed by a long list of those Barbarian settlers, that seemingly never shrunk when I deleted them. However, I am unsure if that had anything to do with the editor. As far as I can tell right now it may be unrelated.
Other than that it's been working very well for me. Thanks for this great program!
Shabbabaram Sep 12, 2004, 10:53 AM I'm a re-patriated civ player. I just got back into C3C. I've been working on a rules mod, and every now and then I run into little things I want to go back and change. But rather then restarting the game from scratch all the way to the era I was in justto fix a problem, I wanted to import the rules.
I tried to export the map with rules and all, but when I opened it, it said it was "not a valid civ3 scenario file." And couldn't do it.
Any ideas?
ps I'm using the most recent version (1.10) from Apoly. I have most recent C3C patch (as of Sept 12) and Win2k.
thanks for your response.

Gramphos Sep 14, 2004, 01:11 AM I'm working on a new version, that uses an updated BIC handling system. The new system is more error safe, but requires all tools to be updated, and thus takes some time to implement fully. Hopefully the change will fix some old rulehandling bugs. I've already found some and corrected them. It is possible that some new bugs sneak in, but the new system is mush easier to maintain, and is somewhat like I should have written it from the beginning.
It still falls back on some of the old code, but in general most code is ported to the new system, but code that can be kept unchanged for the tool to work will not be updated until after the other code is completely updated.
Because of these internal changes I won't look at any bugs until I know that they are in the new system. The main reason for the update of the BIC system is that I want to update the savesystem, which is really bad built and almost unmaintainable in the current state. And because of that it walls back on the BIC system I needed to update that first.
I can't give any timeline for the completion of the next version since I don't know what time I can spend on coding.
ainwood Sep 15, 2004, 04:41 AM Good luck, Gramphos - I actually quite like working with the outputs from your tool, cause I noticed that you tend to clean-up all that memory junk that is hanging around from the Firaxis-native saves.:goodjob:
Gramphos Sep 15, 2004, 02:03 PM I may keep it that way, or implement it as an option. The new base at least supports keeping the memory junk in the saves ;) Since I've decided to sep away from VB strings in favor for byte arrays (wrapped in a class that has a default string property so that I don't have to rewrite all code that uses them) The reason for that is the VB uses Unicode strings internal, and a lot of memory is used for converting from and to ascii strings all the times. The new BIC system is ready and working. What is left is changing the UCW, TTB minimap viewer and all save functions to use the new system. (Some things have changed but most code can remain unchanged. One thing is that I've changed to consitend indexing, always starting at 0 in my internal handling. The earlier codebase began at 1 for some types in the BIC that were the first I used to handle) Also the old system were type (stuct) based, whereas the new is built by classes.
The old (and still unchanged savesystem is even worse). Singelton global type arrays. (I'm not sure What I was thinking when implementing it, other than that I was building onj a small codebase at the time, and it were still overviewable)
HourlyDaily Sep 19, 2004, 11:23 PM Hello all.
I've been using C3MT for quite a while to tweak aspects of my game. The trouble is that I've created a 31 player scenario with hundreds of units and other modifications and was ironing out some imbalances in the units and buildings. My backup map suddenly disappeared and C3MT had corrupted the original BIQ data with it's export feature. I can't bring myself to re-create it all from a much, much earlier 2nd backup.
Gramphos, I was wondering if you or any other talented modders on the site would be able to make a feature that could restructure a BIQ (v 1.22) from an in-game save file?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.
Gramphos Sep 22, 2004, 11:17 AM Extracting the entire state of a save into a scenario is a wanted featuure, but in low priority.
Didn't C3MT create backups before replacing the files?
also how bad did it corrupt the BIQ? (It may be a recoverable error)
HourlyDaily Sep 23, 2004, 02:26 AM Thanks for your reply, Gramphos.
It's a good feature that the backups are created but that is my fault that its not there.
I've tried recovering whatever parts of the data I could, but the map is gone and other programs misread the unit files as either nothing or gibberish.
I'll sit on my hands for a bit until someone makes it possible.
Danel Sep 24, 2004, 09:23 AM Gramphos, I used your Civ3MultiTool to edit C3C v1.22 savegame files.
For example: I put more money, transform some units in elite and some units in medieval infantry (feudalism was researched in the game).
When I load the file in C3C this errors occurs in that order:
DataIO operation System Error: DATE
DataIO operation System Error: PLGI
DataIO operation System Error: PLGI
DataIO operation System Error: DATE
DataIO operation System Error: DATE
DataIO operation System Error: CNSL
Can you help me?
I've tried another thing:
I load the savegame in Civ3MultiTool and then save it (without any modif.).
Original file has 319Kb, the new one has 2.9Mb and got same errors.
Finlandiaciv Sep 25, 2004, 05:02 AM somehow, I can't drive all programs cause "Path not found" I also wonder, where the files went, I installed it to C:\Program\C3MT and when install was ready I saw a new map, what I thought was C3MT, but so wasn't it :( so now I wonder where the second map is.
leviathan5 Oct 02, 2004, 09:49 PM I loaded the editor program and the save game function works fine with C3 save games, but every time I try to edit a C3Conquest save game the Multtool crashes. Any ideas?
Thanks :)

markfive Oct 04, 2004, 09:58 PM I have C3 PTW (v 1.14) and I've installed C3MT (1.02) to use the save
game editor on a PTW sav file. Probably wasn't written for PTW ? but I
thought I'd have a go anyway. It actually worked 1st time but subsequent
edits fail and some create a save file considerably larger than the original
file I was editting. I tried latest version of C3MT (1.10)but can't even save a
file successfully. I'm running Windows XP and noticed the tool mentions NT
on install ?
Any ideas ? If I shouldn't be using C3MT on PTW sav files is there similar
tool out there that works on PTW files ? I couldn't find anything but thought there must be something ?

Dugall Oct 18, 2004, 05:18 AM Is this resolved?
I got an error using the savegame editor, I did use the diplomacy editor just to let you no and this is what it sayed"Datal0 operation System Error: CULT" then win you hit ok it says "ERROR READING FILE D:\Games\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\CIV3PTW\Saves\testmod.SAV" any ideas?
I got same error once. The savegame worked fine for about a millennium, but now my game stops everytime between turns 1630 and 1635. It just crashes. Is there's something to do or do I have to start all over again?
This may be a newbie question, but still...
Dugall Oct 20, 2004, 11:45 AM A bug report. (Or is this just me?)
You open the savegame, then delete last unit (or an other unit/s) and save the file.
Then you open the same file again. Every remaining units are now evil settlers.
I've trying to find out what's causing the crash. And one way to find out of it is to delete all units and then try. But the savegame (of course) won't work. Even if I delete all units.
Edited some 2 hours later
This savegame editor is full of bugs. Nothing is working. Not deleting citizens from cities. Not adding units. Allmost everytime there's an error: DataIO operation System Error: CULT. And that's funny. When you try more than once, you may get lucky and the savegame actually opens in the game.
What's wrong?
Echo 9 Oct 20, 2004, 12:09 PM Question..will this tool allow one to add new units to a saved game? Maybe I have been missing something, but when I download new units, I can't use them until I add them to a scenario and start a new game.
zulu9812 Oct 20, 2004, 12:16 PM you can't change the rules of a savegame, since the savegame reads the rules from it's own file rather than any scenario file.

The problem is all different versions ov Civ3 that the tool has to handle. Curently it does not work very food with the latest PTW patch or later. I'm ignoring all bugreports on the tool until after the updated version I'm working on it ready. It the save handling system totally rewrittern eliminating many bugs, but probably adding some new. I have no idea on when the upcoming version will be ready.

Baron Rakkan Nov 07, 2004, 03:47 AM I tried the new version 1.11. I play Conquests 1.22. When I added two techs and tried to change the government from Anarchy to Democracy, because I was bored of waiting so many rounds, then during loading the data, an error message appeared: DataIO System error: OUTP.
Another thing is when I tried to use the "edit filter" function the CRMT crashed. Any ideas?
Thanks

embryodead Nov 08, 2004, 01:03 PM I updated to 1.11 and it doesn't seem to work right :(
Version 1.11 crashes here when trying to write new BIQ. It happens with all BIQs I tried, even the default conquests.biq. It crashes even if I don't use any features - both Save and simple Copy fail. What's strange is that it seems to crash at random points. For example sometimes the log ends here:
[...]
BICPUT: Writing VER#
BICPUT: Writing Buildings(BLDG)
BICPUT: Writing Citizen(CTZN)
BICPUT: Writing Culture Levels(CULT)
BICPUT: Writing Difficulty Levels(DIFF)
BICPUT: Writing Eras(ERAS)
sometimes it goes some steps further:
BICPUT: Writing Espionage(ESPN)
BICPUT: Writing Experience(EXPR)
BICPUT: Writing Resources(GOOD)
BICPUT: Writing Governments(GOVT)
Note that I used version 1.10 without any problems. After mentioned problems I deleted whole folder and installed 1.10 again and it works. I would really like to switch to 1.11 to check out the new feauters e.g. map conversion tool, since BMP2BIC was pretty annoying and faulty.
Gramphos Nov 08, 2004, 02:01 PM What BIQ vesrion are you using? And what tool is the BIQ created from. Do you get any error message, or just a plain crash?
The new BIQ system is more failsafe than the old, but it's not been tested more then on a very limited scale so far, and I might have done some things wroing with tools using the old system in the progress of updating them.
The new map conversion tool were added by a request, but isn't very well developed. It works, but I hope to make it more failsafe sometime.
Gramphos Nov 08, 2004, 02:37 PM I've tracked down an access violation error in the serialization code for the prototype section. And it will be fixed with the next version.
Supa Nov 08, 2004, 02:50 PM Does it give any error message?
Nope, just the usual XP windows.
The log ends like this :
BICPUT: Writing VER#
BICPUT: Writing Buildings(BLDG)
BICPUT: Writing Citizen(CTZN)
BICPUT: Writing Culture Levels(CULT)
BICPUT: Writing Difficulty Levels(DIFF)

BICPUT: Writing Espionage(ESPN)
BICPUT: Writing Experience(EXPR)
BICPUT: Writing Resources(GOOD)
BICPUT: Writing Governments(GOVT)
BICPUT: Writing Rules(RULE)
BICPUT: Writing Unit Prototypes(PRTO)
Gramphos Nov 08, 2004, 03:04 PM It's the same error that I just trracked down.
Gramphos Nov 08, 2004, 03:28 PM C3MT 1.11.1 (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/~gramphos/gramphos/c3mt1-11-1.zip)
- Fixed bug in saveload
- Fixed bug with BI[]-creation when having maps in the new file.
- Fixed access violation bug with saving scenario files containing unit
prototypes [PRTO] or using the copy tool to copy prototypes.
Baron Rakkan Nov 08, 2004, 04:00 PM Can you supply me with both saves?
Sorry, I tried to upload, both files, the original and the changed, but they were to large. Before I tried to change a file with the new version 1.11.1. but it crushed again when I loaded the data after I have started the game. I don`t have any idea how to help you. In the changed data I only changed the government type from Anarchy(4) to Democracy.
Nevertheless thanks for your help.

heres the error I get

bluebox Nov 27, 2004, 05:59 PM Hello, Gramphos,
I installed fullinstall1.02 + update 1.11.3. It doesn't open any vanilla saves. when loading a save there are about 523 error messages all saying something about array-index-missing-loading-race-civ-failed. I "downgraded" to update1.11, which I had installed before, same messages. the setup full install + update1.11 worked a few weeks ago, but I re-installed my OS. Am I some vbasic files missing? Thanks, bluebox.
Gramphos Dec 01, 2004, 01:58 PM I'm not sure what your error can be. Do you get any session logs from the SAVELOAD?
bluebox Dec 02, 2004, 09:43 AM I'm not sure what your error can be. Do you get any session logs from the SAVELOAD?
I made one: logged loading a c3c file (fine) and two civ3v1.29 files (problems like described above). Upload (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/sge-log.zip).
After the newest versions do not work I'm currently using 1.02. That one's working with civ3 saves.
Thanks.

I'll investigate it when I have time. (That is after my exams that start in a week)

sekong Dec 17, 2004, 02:04 PM Thanks. Guess so..
Valek Dec 19, 2004, 06:01 PM Hmm...
Just tried to play a game of Civ3 after a month or so with the latest version of C3MT.
Just tried to edit a savegame, and when I attempt to edit Cities I receive this error message; http://server3.uploadit.org/files/Bavatoc-error.JPG
I tried starting a new game, and received the same error message.
I did not have this problem with 1.11. Any ideas what is wrong?
Also, anyone still have 1.11?
If so, please attach it here so that I may use it again until this problem is fixed.
Gramphos Dec 20, 2004, 02:32 AM What version of Civ3/Epansion pack are you loading saves from?
I think the old version still is in the upload folder.
Valek Dec 20, 2004, 03:58 PM What version of Civ3/Epansion pack are you loading saves from?
I am using Civilization 3 Complete, which is v1.22.
I think the old version still is in the upload folder.
Found it. I must have been mistaken when I said 1.11 worked fine,
as I receive the same error with it.
Also, just tried versions 1.11.2, and 1.11.1. Same error message.
Version 1.10, however, works perfectly.
Played a game for 4 hours last night, using the SGE in 1.10 quite a bit.
Not a single problem. Odd...
Gramphos Dec 23, 2004, 12:20 PM Not very odd, v1.11 comes with a completely rewritten save and bic handling system, which is easier to maintain, but probably still have many bugs.
Gramphos Dec 31, 2004, 11:50 AM I am using Civilization 3 Complete, which is v1.22.
Are you sure that you are playing the Conquests expansion in the complete release, and not vanilla Civ3?
I've found a bug that will make Civ3 >= 1.21f generate the said errors.
Valek Dec 31, 2004, 04:37 PM Are you sure that you are playing the Conquests expansion in the complete release, and not vanilla Civ3?
Yes. My shortcut is clearly pointing to Conquests.

Hope your exams went well...

reignman Jan 25, 2005, 03:26 PM I have a question concerning the c3mt saved game editor (v 1.11.3). i'm just trying to change the difficulty setting on a saved game, but i once i edit that, the file becomes corrupted. what am i doing wrong?
Gramphos Jan 25, 2005, 11:19 PM Probably nothing. There are some bugs with specific savegame versions they will eventually disappear with an upcoming version, but right no I have no idea of when the next version might get out. I simply have to many things to do in RL, and other programming committments as well. C3MT currntly has the lowest priority to get a share of my time, and that means that it pretty mush stand still, and will do so for at least a month.
cidknee Feb 09, 2005, 08:57 PM hey gramphos I got a funny error... everytime i try to " change" a game, I try to save my changes and I get the report error thing
foxmulder241 Feb 11, 2005, 12:18 AM I'm running Civiliization 3 v.1.29, I can't get Civ3MultiTool to run.
At first I don't recall which version I had of Civ3MultiTool and I could edit my saved games but when I would go to load them it woud load about 28% and then say illegal function and shut down, so I upgrade to the latest updated version of Civ3MultiTool kept coming up run error 538 it when I would try to run it, so I uninstalled Civ3MultiTool and installed Civ3MultiTool v. 110 and it won't load my saved for I can edit them.
KojiiS Feb 16, 2005, 08:54 AM I just updated my civ 3 to 1.29f and your multitool isn't working espicially the savegame editor all I get with that is:
Error while listing races: Object variable or With block varible not set
How the heck do I fix this please help!
(I'm on XP Pro with civ 3 version 1.29f)
Kingpin Mar 12, 2005, 06:38 AM Gramphos, we've been using Civ3MultiTool to organize the unit build list for The Balancer Reloaded mod (http://www.evo-games.net/Home/viewtopic.php?t=291&start=75&sid=bca025be6ca9de60e631c6920341f16d). I have discovered that version 1.11.3 does some strange things to the king units in Regicide mode... it changes the king units to other units, such as the Aegis Cruiser and aircraft... I'm going to go back to a previous version that didn't have that problem but I thought I'd make you aware of it.
Gramphos Mar 12, 2005, 11:30 AM That sounds strang. Any other strange changes of values. It must be a bug in v1.11.x new BIC handler, probably a field that is of the wrong type. Will look into it when I have time.

We haven't noticed any other value changes. Everything else seems to work as intended. I've gone back to v1.10 and it works without flaw.
Thanks, by the way, for this fantastic utility tool. Our build list would be very cluttered without it.
jekyl Mar 12, 2005, 03:31 PM Ok ive just read through 20 pages, and i didnt see this. maybe its there and i just missed it but im gonna post anyways.
I use PTW 1.21f. When i try to use the save game editor for any save file i get the message im gonna type below, and have to ctrl+alt+del to close the program because even though it has an ok button, pressing it just brings the popup message back.
The message reads as follows:
Error while listing levels: Object variable or with block variable not set
id really love to try out your program, i hope you know what the problem is...
Gramphos Mar 12, 2005, 04:09 PM That problem is causes by a bug in the ave version compability code. failing to load some parts of the save. In my development version some bugs of that type have been fixed, but some still persist. However a most important cahnge to it is that there only will be oen popup and not one per single object in the file (yes the number of popups is finite, but most poeple give up after ten to twenty and use ctrl+alt+delete :p)
Gramphos Mar 12, 2005, 04:21 PM We haven't noticed any other value changes. Everything else seems to work as intended. I've gone back to v1.10 and it works without flaw.
Thanks, by the way, for this fantastic utility tool. Our build list would be very cluttered without it.
Just what bic version are you woriking with? I can't see anything wrong by just looking at the code...
Gramphos Mar 12, 2005, 04:43 PM I think I found something that might be the problem.
Did all other fields on the same object types update correctly, but no fields of other objects (i.e army unit/barbarian units/slave units (all parts of the rules object))
Gramphos Mar 12, 2005, 05:57 PM I did some roundup over my code and compieled it. I'm not sure what bugs are fixed, or if something is about to be added, that aren't in the readme. It's been too mush lately.
1.11.4
- Race/Player lists in the sge now mark dead players in the list
- Beaker estimation now takes dead players into account into.
- Added protection for infinite loops on diplomacy view. (There may still be infinite loops if trying to view specific broken deals, but the mainwindow will show correctly nevertheless)
- Corrected bug with adding and removing parts of diplomatic deals.
- Race/Player lists in the sge now mark AI-controled civs
- C3MT can now detect the civilization 3 directories running as non-privileged user on Windows XP.
- Logs more info to the session log
- Corrected access violation error in c3mt.dll
- Fixed the rules organizer to update fields in other objecttypes than the swaped (broke with v1.11)
- c3mt.dll is now, if possible, kept only in the application directory, and not installed systewide. This should definately work on Windows XP SP1 and later OSes, but are likley to work on other systems as well.

bluebox Mar 13, 2005, 08:28 AM Congrats, gramphos, it seems you've fixed your tool! The last version brought some 'serious' problems. I found that was pretty sad because, overall, it's a very good editor. I just dl'ed 1.11.4 and was able to load both a c3c save and a civ3v1.29 save without any errors. I believe you are over the hump with your sge. Thanks a lot!
Gramphos Mar 13, 2005, 01:05 PM There are some general fixes for load errors, and some major fixes for running as non-administrator on Windows XP. I'm still not sure that the later works completely yet, but the changes made should resolve some errors related to it.
Gramphos Mar 13, 2005, 01:27 PM Unitfilter is broken, don't use it.
jekyl Mar 13, 2005, 03:15 PM thanks for answering,
so are you saying once those pop ups are done, the program will work?
Gramphos Mar 13, 2005, 03:22 PM it will be possible to turn off the app, but the program will not have loaded the save data correctly if the popups show at the first time. So the program would not be usable, but you wouldn't have to end it using the task mannager. Have you tryed the new verson?
jekyl Mar 16, 2005, 09:27 AM yes i dled and tryed again... sat for 10 minutes hitting ok, got bored, rigged my enter key and left for 20 more, it was still going through pop ups, left for another 10 and when i came back my computer had shut down :( so im not sure if it made it thrugh or not..
This time it said my .sav files werent civ 3 files. I updated to PTW 1.29f, but made no other changes.
Genocidicbunny Apr 16, 2005, 10:44 PM I keep getting runtime error 9, subscript is out of range. I am running win 2000. This used to work on my win 98 machine and it was a great utility.
Komoda Apr 17, 2005, 03:18 PM for unit creation____runtime error '9'
save game editor___runtime error '53'
for both tools:
map convertor_____
civilopedia editor___runtime error '364'
both civ3mt and diplomacy editor, both work
if I am doing something incorrectly, please tell me, as the tools that I am trying to bring up, keep telling me that application has crashed, I am using winXP pro.
guess I should also mention that each time I run the programs forementioned, I get the display of a bugfix available for download. I did the patch, also did the uninstall and reinstall+patch, no such luck.
some assistance would be appreciated.
Thx.
Gramphos Apr 18, 2005, 03:35 PM just wait for the next version, or see if you can find a v1.10.x somewhere. v1.11.x still have some instabilities. The next version will feature mush more sophisticated error handling in many parts of the code (that I use in another project, and had to add it)
no estimate on when I'll have time to finish it
Komoda Apr 18, 2005, 06:48 PM it looks like a really good program, hope you get the next version out sooner than later.
Best of luck to ya :)

GrendelS Apr 28, 2005, 04:49 AM Hi,
I'm using WinXPsp2, Civilization 3C3 files (1.22) with the current 1.1.4 beta - saving modified save files is unfortunately not possible, it crashes on save every time. In earlier version it only crashed when modifying units. It also crashes when opening and directly saving unmodified games. Would you like me to email the logfile?
ciao
Grendel
Gramphos Apr 30, 2005, 06:47 PM 1.11.5
- Fixed adding multiple units with the UCW
- Fixed Import/Export functionality for units in the CT
- Errorlogging improved in varius areas of the code.
- The tool should now identify Civilization III Complete installations
- Added description to Image<->Map converter entry on main menu
This version is available as both full in stall and patch, currently only from CFC due to issues with Settler 3 over at Polly.
Note that the v11.x series features a new savehandling system. This has proven to be quite buggy. If you experience Problems with the latest v1.11 file you can go back to v1.10 and it will hopefully work as a savegame editor. However other tools will not be working as well. Also please report what errors you have with v1.11.x so I can have a chance to fix them.
stgelven May 08, 2005, 03:51 PM i just downloaded multi tool (1.11.5) and i' ve got a problem.
image2map tells me "invalid palette in image", well, okay, what can i do? where is a valid palette image?
for you'r next version , could you think to include the arrows in the tree tech editor?
thanks
Gramphos May 08, 2005, 06:35 PM i just downloaded multi tool (1.11.5) and i' ve got a problem.
image2map tells me "invalid palette in image", well, okay, what can i do? where is a valid palette image?
The impages has to be of a very specific palette. The palette order is the only thing that truly matters. A pallette can be created with utility. Most point program should be able to fitany image to a specific palette, by first export ithe palette from the patette image to a .pal file, and the importing it to the map image.
for you'r next version , could you think to include the arrows in the tree tech editor?
thanks
What arrows? Your screen resolution? DPI setting? Zoom level (full or half toggle by double click)
stgelven May 09, 2005, 04:08 PM Arrows are the lines that join each tech, you see what i mean? did i used a wrong word? (my poor english...)
Gramphos May 09, 2005, 04:13 PM The arrows are included with the background iages. That is if a default background image is found the arrows will be displayed.
stgelven May 09, 2005, 04:21 PM well, so there is no solution for that. anyway i thank you to answer me and for the work you done. :)
Gramphos May 09, 2005, 04:24 PM solotion for what? Editing the arrows requires editing of the background image. And I'm not going to turn thins tool into a graphical program. I simply don't have time for that.
stgelven May 09, 2005, 04:31 PM what i asked you was not to edit the background image and cut the existing arrows but to includ the placement of the arrows with the tech boxes all that in the tree tech builder. but anyway it seems to be not possible to do that.

Gramphos May 13, 2005, 12:19 AM I've noticed that too. It's a result of the old setup program in combination with a compressed dll, and I don't know why it's reported as a virus. The new setup (c3mtfull.exe) does not give the same detection regardless if the dll is compressed or not.

watorrey May 18, 2005, 03:36 PM Are you taking requests?
I have a C3C game where 2 of the civs are the same color and next to each other on the histograph. I would love to be able to change the color of one of the civs.
DJMGator13 May 20, 2005, 06:44 PM I'm trying to create an exercise using our current game save and I need to increase the military strenght of the AI we are playing against. After adding a few infantry to them using the Save Game Editor it then crashes. I was adding 2 or 3 units saving the file and then opening it to make sure it was OK and that is when it crashed. Once it crashed while loading, I could no longer edit that save anymore.
Is there a limit to how many units I can add, or I'm I creating a situation that maybe violates a rule or something? I'm new to this editing stuff. I even upgraded to the newest version and it is still crashing.
What I would like to do is add units to GER, FRA and ENG so that they are Strong in comparison to the IRQ. Here is the save (http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=88125) file. After adding maybe 6 or 8 inf to germany that is when it has crashed on me.
Aldaron May 22, 2005, 08:26 AM Perhaps I´m a little bit stupid but, why does the program give errors such as "Run-time error '9' Subscript out of range"?? Perhaps I´ve done anything wrong? I can´t open the program.
Waiting for reply...
Thanks anyway
Gramphos May 22, 2005, 03:37 PM Do you get any logfiles?
Aldaron May 24, 2005, 06:52 AM No. I just downloaded the main file.
Did I do anything wrong???
Gramphos May 24, 2005, 12:31 PM Does it produce any file named snumber.log in the utilty directory?

Malfazar May 25, 2005, 07:54 PM I using the 'game of the year' edition and it says 1.29f on lower left of the menu screen, if that helps
Gramphos May 25, 2005, 11:26 PM I using the 'game of the year' edition and it says 1.29f on lower left of the menu screen, if that helps
You might want to try with an older version. My main concern currently is to get the tool to work with Conquests, and after that I'll start looking at what backcompability issues I have.
zaphie May 26, 2005, 09:06 AM Hi, the savegame editor (latest version) crashes frequently with the following error code:
Run-time error '438':
Object doesn't support this property or method
That happened when I try to modify a town.
and
Run-time error '91':
Object variable or With block variable not set
That happened when I acivate "Edit Filter" from drop-down menu.
I'm using Conquest 1.22 and serveral logfiles are produced in the c3mt directory.
Does anybody know, how to avoid this?
Malfazar May 27, 2005, 04:56 AM thx, Gramphos, it works like a charm!

real atanvarno Jun 20, 2005, 02:30 AM I'm in a bad situation here. I'm playing a map using the RAR mod but I forgot to put Incense on it and I can't build temples, basilicas and other religious buildings.
I'm already in the Medieval age and I don't want to start it over again. I'd really want to use your tool's import map ability but it doesn't work. I click import map, I select it (the same map the save game uses but with incense) and the operation seems to have worked. When I try to save the modified save game file
I get 2 errors and then the program crashes.
Here are the errors:
Error: Object variable or With block variable not set (91) in C3MT::SAVE_Unit.cls Line 786
Error: Object variable or With block variable not set (91) in C3MT::ByteString.cls Line 434
I'm using the latest version of C3C (1.22).
Gramphos Jun 20, 2005, 11:05 AM It seems as if the map import fails for some reason. Then some operations doe to maps won't work as they should. There are the errors.
(I really whish I had implemented real error handling from start. But back then I focused on adding features, and that was a philosophy that worked until they started patching the game ;) It actually worked until the XPs started to come out)
real atanvarno Jun 20, 2005, 01:07 PM So, can you fix it plz ?
Gramphos Jun 20, 2005, 01:54 PM It should hopefully be fixed with v1.11.6. There are som many different save versions that are being used with this tool, and I still guess several parts of the save structure, which means that mods might cause problems. If it doesn't work with this I'll need the save file you are using.
v1.11.6
- Added code to eliminate (hopefully) runtime errors due to fail in save load.
- Improved error logging in more areas of the code (still not all)
- Corrected a subscriptout of range error whan using filter with non-embeded rules.
- Removed section searching from GAME datasection in saveload. (This should eliminate some rare cases of files not loading properly due to garbage strings lookingas section tags)
- Corrected adivision by zero error that could occur if a save was loaded on turn 1.
- Corrected some backward compabilities with old BI*-versions. (Some values got initiated to invalid values, which could cause the tool to crash with division by zero error)
- Corrected bug in serialization of zerolength areas that sometimes would cause DataIO save corruptions.
- Corrected bug in backwardbompability saving of save headers.
- Updated Map import to work with the new save handling code.

patch (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/~gramphos/gramphos/c3mt1-11-6.zip)

real atanvarno Jun 21, 2005, 05:50 AM Now when I try to save the savegame I get tons of these:
Error: Object variable or With block variable not set (91) in C3MT::SAVE_Unit.cls Line 761
Error: Subscript out of range (9) in C3MT::SAVE_Map.cls Line 182
Error: Object variable or With block variable not set (91) in C3MT::SAVE_Unit.cls Line 786
Give me you email address and I'll send you the savegame file.
Thx for your help.
Gramphos Jun 21, 2005, 11:37 AM You can send the save to grampohs[-at-]apolyton[-dot-]net
ghs Jun 22, 2005, 08:58 AM Hi.
Can anyone tell me if there are two kind of 'GAME' section in savegame file? I've found description of this section on Apolyton:
GAME SECTION
4 char "GAME"
4 long number of scenario properties (1)
My problem is that there are two GAME sections in my savegame files. First of them is valid according to Apolyton's description, however second GAME section had 350h number as 'number of scenario properties', which seems to be wrong.
There are also few section like DATE or PLGI -- there is nowhere explanation of them on the Internet.
Sorry for bothering, but I spend lot of hours on searching those infos on Internet.
Greetings,
ghs
treylloyd Jun 22, 2005, 09:47 PM Hi,
First, thanks for creating this tool. Very cool for tweaking things to see how the scenario changes.
I'm trying to use the saved game editor. I have version 1.29f. The save game files load in the tool fine, but I get error messages when saving them. The log report the following: "Error: Invalid property value(380)6/22/2005 8:36:33 PM in lslLEAD_Click". The application error is "Error: Path/File access error (75) in C3MT::StreamBuffer.cls line 833" then it returns the same error for line 527, 527 (again), and then says "Error: Subscript out of range (9) in C3MT::StreamBuffer.cls Line 253" before reporting "operation complete". Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Gramphos Jun 25, 2005, 02:42 AM You probably not doing anything specific wrong. Just that something fails updating for some reason. I would like to see the entire log, and not just the errors, or at least the area around the errors. I'm working on improved error reporting all the time but haven't got to lslLEAD_Click. yet, so I have hard to say what fails.
treylloyd Jun 25, 2005, 08:33 PM Not a problem. I'll send it to you at the address you provided in an earlier post. Do appreciate your maintaining this. : )
iNDUSTRIALg0D Jun 27, 2005, 07:51 AM i am creating a scenario now and my tech tree is cluttered to hell... i downloaded this tool because i was told it can fix this. everytime i open a file in the tech tree builder i get:
run-time error "5"
invalid procedure call argument
i have the original version and the version 1.11.6 because your original post said i needed both. the error is with 1.11.6.
also while i am inquiring: do you know how to fix my leader name bug? everytime i load up my scenario, all the leaders have the same name in the startup screen. also, do you know how to create a fog of war so that some players see a certain part of the map and other see different parts? everytime i mess with this option, every players sees the same parts of the map. i specifically switch the active player, but no avail.
Mr. Do Jul 02, 2005, 12:38 PM I've had a look at this program for adding units, and see that you can add them anywhere new you like. But can this tool (or any other?) be used to change the order of the units after they've already been added?
Gramphos Jul 04, 2005, 06:25 AM The CopyTool has a sub tool: Rules Organizer, that can be used to reorder units.
Mr. Do Jul 04, 2005, 08:13 AM Beautiful :)
RobAC Jul 14, 2005, 02:40 AM Hi - great tool. I've started using 1.11.6 for Civ2 map conversions. I was getting Runtime Error 91 with many old Civ 2 maps, but now I'm getting Runtime Error 9 (subscript out of range). Any ideas? I'm running C3C 1.22, and I'm converting maps to BIQ. Some works, but a lot less than in older C3MT versions.

Gramphos Jul 14, 2005, 05:06 AM post some maps that don't work and I'll look into it.
RobAC Jul 14, 2005, 10:21 AM Thanks for that - attached are a couple of 'for examples'...
RobAC
Gramphos Jul 14, 2005, 01:14 PM Thanks.
There were two (or three if you count that it wasn't possible to convert more than one map without restarting C3MT) separate issues.
1.11.7
- Corrected handling of wraparounds in sight calculation. (Fixing some (ignorable) errors)
- Fixed error in map exporting for non-C3C saves.
- Corrected error in saving Vanilla Civ3 saves.
- Errors in IO will now be directed to the IO issuer resulting in more useful error messages.
- Civ2 Map Converter again works with starting locations
- Fixed bug in Civ2 Map conversion of maps with rivers close to the south pole.
- Corrected problem with convertion two maps in a row.
RobAC Jul 15, 2005, 01:32 AM Everything appears to work fine now...Marvellous! You are indeed a genius!

Steph Jul 17, 2005, 02:15 AM I have a request for a small evolution that could be quite helpful.
The unit organizer is great, but with large od like the one I'm working on, it can be long and tedious to move the unit you have just created from the end of the list to the correct place when you have hundreds of unit, as you must move it one by one.
Could it be possible to add some buttons, so we can move it up / down by increment of 1 or 20? Something like line up / down, page up/ down?
Yorgos Jul 17, 2005, 07:01 AM Hello Gramphos, and very nice tool. However I have a slight difficulty. As you might have noticed I am recreating the civ2 Midgard mod for civ3, and I noticed that I can use your tool to make a civilization (the Stygians) permanetly at war with all others, just like it was possible in civ2 with the events editor. But to have the CDD files work I need your Civilization Diplomacy Tool, and it seems that it has been removed from both Civfanatics and Apolyton, together with all old files. Is it possible to repost it again? Thanks.
Gramphos Jul 17, 2005, 04:56 PM CDT is not compatible with Conquests. Maybe someday I'll find the time to make the required changes. But right now I'm too busy for that.
Mr. Do Jul 18, 2005, 03:19 PM Any chance of Steph's request being implemented?
For some reason while I've used this program, the entire upgrade chain has fluffed itself up. This could be a major setback for the mod, with the hundreds of units and complex upgrade chains present :(
j'taime_amore Jul 20, 2005, 02:03 AM Hey does this thing work on mac r is it strictly windows
cidknee Jul 20, 2005, 06:52 AM Hey does this thing work on mac r is it strictly windows
mac what is mac? ohhh u mean that supposed computer type thing with one button? lol... jk just bugging and Im not quite sure, but i think its mainly PC
Gramphos Jul 20, 2005, 02:20 PM There is a chance I ge sime to add some more ways of reordering units in the lists for next version. If everything works OK with the new method I should easy be able to extend it to both Buildings and resources. But riggth now I'm on a vacation, and am only home for a night to chack mail. Hopefully the next version will have some more work put on the rules organizer. I might actually make it possible to load scenarios from it, and add it to the main menu, since I guess it's used a lot more than the CT is these days ;)
Gramphos Jul 20, 2005, 02:31 PM And NO, C3MT requires Windows to run.
Steph Jul 20, 2005, 02:54 PM Oh, I'm using a lot the CT tool and the rule organizer!
Without them, I couldn't make my mod.
tjedge1 Jul 21, 2005, 08:47 PM CDT is not compatible with Conquests. Maybe someday I'll find the time to make the required changes. But right now I'm too busy for that.
 Guess I'll wait till that ime then.
Gramphos Jul 23, 2005, 02:40 AM it seems as if I have replaced the source for CDD 1.01 with the source for CDD 1.00 sometime when moviing sourcefiles between locations. I still have a slight hope that I might have a backup, the problem is that the date when 1.01 was made was just when I was changing my base programming computer, and then the Christmas after I moved back to the old, and probably didn't sync the CDD souce correctly to the other computer, but then replaced my newr source when I moved back. THe failiure to sync it at first time might indicate a missing backup.
That mean that I can't just make a simple update to the C3C save format, but would have reimplement the changes made in v1.01, and figure out the bugs I fixed in it. It's been almost two years since I worked with that source, and I don't think I will have time to make that kind of changes for some time.
Steph Jul 24, 2005, 06:14 AM I've just used the 1.11.7 version to reorder units, and I've seen something that I thought was OK before, and doesn't work.
If you have the following upgrad path
A --> B --> C, and then create a D unit, and move it between A and B, then
B upgrade to B, and C upgrade to C.
When a unit is moved, the upgrade is not correctly modified for the units which are after it.
Eidt: I've checked with version 1.10, it works OK. The problem exists also with 1.11.7001 with the new gap system for reorganization
Gramphos Jul 24, 2005, 03:11 PM Stupid references not working as supposed. And VB isn't complaining about it  It should be easy to fix I hope. Thought I fixed all those already, but I had missed the ones unit ref to other unit.

allondro Sep 20, 2005, 07:34 PM I just upgraded to 1.12.1. Now I can't load any games whatsoever into the editor. I have been trying to uninstall 1.12.1 and load older versions, and they won't load any games either any more. I have cleaned my registry and run Norton and still nothing.
Errors are:
Error: Parse Error (-2147221501) in SaveFile::deserialize @ SAVEHandler,bas Line 90
Call Stack:
SaveFile::deserialize @ SaveFile.cls Line 797
SaveFile::deserialize @ SaveFile.cls Line 52
This is with 1.12.1. All manner of other errors cropped up with older versions.
Thanks

Can the Editor Limitations be over-ridden?
Has anyone made a patch/utility to make unlimited cities and/or unlimited Civilizations?
If not, surely someone can bless us with this much needed capability...
Also, is it possible to delete Barbarians, and make a Civ with their color? When i tried to delete the Barbarians in Civ Editor, it made the Romans barbarians as well as other problems, surely this can be fixed as well...
And while i'm at it, has someone made it possible to have say, 100 different colors for Civilizations?
My dream is to play a game on El Mency's 362x362 with like, 50 civs...
I'd get rid of Sumeria, Hittites, Byzantines, and the Barbarians, but add Sioux, Apache, Swahili, Eskimos, Siamese, Polynesians, Arawaks, Haida, plus many others...
Has this been done?, Can it be done?, or is Firaxis holding us back???
Also, can a 1000x1000 map be made?
Takhisis replied=
Well, civs can be added using C3MT.
I have Civ3 Complete - is this true if i install it? And where do i install it to?
Any help on the other questions would be much appreciated!
cidknee Sep 30, 2005, 05:13 PM id PM Gramphos... i use C3MT alot ( its great!!) and never seen that option
gpshaw Sep 30, 2005, 08:00 PM Does this work for Civ III complete?

Editor limitations generally cannot be overridden.
Limitations are hardcoded.
You cannot replace the barbs with a 32nd civ.
Colors are limited to 32.
Civs are limited to 31 + barbs.
362x362 i think is the largest map possible.

This one is not. The true limit of the map size is 65536 tiles, that is X*Y <= 131072. If you are to make a square map the limits in the editor is the true limit. However, the game is capable of handling maps of other proportions, with one diminsion larger than 362. 512*256 would for instance be a possible map using the maximum possible number of tiles.
Spacer One Oct 09, 2005, 03:46 PM ok, most of the links are disabled, and its fairly confusing as to which parts I need...thetool works<?> for me, but everything has errors...I only d/led the "full" version from here http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/c3mtfull.zip
but I cant get the "small" files...are they needed and if so can someone tell me where they are posted?...

Not from what I see. My world builder only lets me enter a heigth and width between 16 and 362.

That is because the game, and official editors limits the size to 362, since it dosn't have any liked limits. You can create a larger map with the Image2Map tool of C3MT. You could make it 100% water, nad then oad it into the edior and buld it in there. The editor would allow it to load. Just won't generate it.
Amesjustin Oct 09, 2005, 07:03 PM Good to know. Been a while since I opened this tool- I think it is time I do so again...

You need one the full installs (Your choice) and from what I saw You'll need the file buildings small.pcx found in the next message.

The buildings small file is onlyy needed if you are using vanilla Civ3, and plan to use the Copy tool to copy buildings. It's generally not recommended any more.
gbee Dec 29, 2005, 07:21 PM hello;
is there anyway to repair a civ3 sav file that got damaged by civ3 multi tool? the cmt was working beautifully-all i was doing was putting more money in my treasury, changed the retirement date, and checked off a few tech advances. low and behold about the 10th time i did it it gave an error message saying "dataIO CTZN error"...and now i can't play my game anymore. normally i would blow it off but have invested alot of time in it. any help would be most appreciated. thanks, glen

Unperson Dec 30, 2005, 10:53 PM I'm sorry to bother you guys but everytime I load any save in the SaveGame Editor I get this error:
Error: Type mismatch (13) in C3MT @ frmSaveEdit.frm Line 3710
So what should I do?
Gramphos Jan 23, 2006, 03:27 PM gbee and Unperson: What versions of Civ3 are you using?
gbee: Didn't the multitool create a backup of the savefile before editing it? Does the broken save still load into C3MT? If not what error message do you get?
mdwoley Jan 27, 2006, 08:06 AM Everytime I try to follow one the links to download this program, I keep getting "Cannot Find Server" errors. What is the right link?
Dianthus Jan 27, 2006, 08:09 AM The civfanatics.net server seems to be down at the moment. Those links should work once it is back up again.

usanewfie Feb 02, 2006, 02:40 PM I've been using C3MT for a couple of years. I just got a new computer, installed Civ 3 (vanilla 1.21f) and then downloaded the full C3MT, not to mention every other version I could find to try to get back up and running...
Every time I run C3MT 1.12.2 and try to use the save game mod, I get 30 messages saying File Not Found: art\units\palettes\ntp00.pcx...
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Gramphos Feb 03, 2006, 01:19 AM Anything in c3mt.log? Does it detect your install folder correctly?
usanewfie Feb 03, 2006, 11:45 AM Here's what is in C3MT.log... thanks for helping me out...

It also says: Error while listing levels: Object variable or with block not set....then i hit ok and it pops up a million times
usanewfie Feb 18, 2006, 08:33 PM I've now tested the new install on three seperate computers (new install of CivIII 1.29f and subsequent install of C3MT). All versions came back with the same issue for C3MT 1.12... noted above along with the log file version.
I managed to get the older version installed but is crashes when you try to save a modified saved game.
Any help? Does anyone else have this issue with new installs?
