I have had this problem before. I could not use a few of the features of this program because I have Civilization III Complete. It was explained to me that if you do not have the original 3 cd installed, that this program will not recognize Civ III vanilla install location. It seems the program requires whatever resources are in that installation path, otherwise it will not work.

Oooooooooohhh Thanks, Gaias. Cruddy, as I have Complete. This should be oted in the first port.. I wish Gramphos would make a patch, but I have been unable to get a hold of him..

The thing is that since I don't have comlete myself I don't know what registry locations it store it's installation paths in. And I'm really busy with my real life and other projects at the moment.

Error: Parse Error (-2147221501) in SaveFile::deserialize @ SAVEHandler,bas Line 90
Call Stack:
SaveFile::deserialize @ SaveFile.cls Line 797
SaveFile::deserialize @ SaveFile.cls Line 52

This is with 1.12.1. All manner of other errors cropped up with older versions.
Thanks

I was getting the same error when trying to load a file that had a Data IO error: CITY problem (due to last settler of a civ being destroyed in a ship) in order to fix it, only difference was in last line SaveFile::deserialize @ SaveFile.cls Line 147 instead of Line 52.

I went back to a Gramphos post of May 25 2005 and downloaded the attached file c3mt0-95-1001.zip. I then ran SaveGameEditor.bat and loaded, fixed and saved the damaged .sav file. The new file loaded in both the latest version of C3MT and in Civ3.

Hope that helps.

Firstly, awesome utility, im very sad that ive only discovered it now :(

Secondly... I dont want to be ungrateful, but have a problem, i dont know if its already been posted or if this thread is dead or what, but here goes...

I have learned to work around most of the crash bugs, but theres one thing i cant fix... I really want to create scenarios from save games for a project im working on, using fixed player-civ settings. I can export a conquests game to a scenario OK, so long as i dont include the rules or player data (i can import those in the editor from another scenario file). But when i open in the editor, i see that all the players have been mixed around...

What i mean is that all player 1's cities, units etc, are now under the control of player 2. All player 2's stuff is given to player 3, and so on. This would be OK, except i want to use specific player-civ combinations. I get the city of rome as captiol of egypt, thebes as capitol of greece etc. And player 1 is left in control of nothing, but all its former cities and units are under the control of player 2. Things can be repaired somewhat by re-assinging the civs in the player settings. But anything that originally belonged to the last player in the list seems to be totally lost from the map.

With 31 players, there seems to be a crash bug, where one of the players probably gets assigned a civ that doesnt exist, or possibly becomes the 'barbarian' civ. The editor will crash whenver any of their units or cities comes into view.

Well i guess this post was pointless... but in any case, id like to say thanks again for the awesome utility :)

I just came across this utility and would like to know what it does and whether it is compatible with C3C 1.22. I would appreciate very much if anyone could point me to a thread containing specs, etc.

Cheers

Hi there,

I am playing Civ III v 1.29f (no PTW, or conquests). I would like to edit a save game to modify the end year and victory conditions. I have tried using Civ 3 MultiTool save game editor v1.12.4 but when I try to load the modified game into Civ 3 I get the following message...

DataIO operation System error:BIC

...and the save game will not load.

Can someone please help me with this problem or suggest an alternative method of editing the victory conditions of a save game?

Thank you!

A few remarks. I've been using the copy tool and rule organizer a lot for my mod, and without it I would have been unable to manage a mod with thousands of units.

I have a few suggestion to make it better:
- When copyng a unit, the air defense is not copied (always 0). I often forget to put it back :(.
- Sometimes, with many units, when copying a bunch of them (even only 2), I get an error. I now have to copy them one by one.
- It would be great if we could "set a marker". Imagine I have 2000 units.
I want to copy units 1200 to 1210. I need to locate all the entries in the combo, then select it, and copy. The combo is then reseted , and the first entry is selected. It would be better if the entry selected previously was selected again (so I can just reopen the combo and select the next entry).
Same for the rule organizer, a way to "set a tag" with a quicj jump to tag would be marvelous.
- It would also be extra fantastic if we could copy a bunch of units at once, or/and ahve multi selection in the rule organizer.

To explain better the idea, here is how I work on my mod, whose goal is to have only flavour units for every civ.

I have generic units.
Like
Warrior
Bronze Sword
Iron Sword
Medieval Sword
Bronze spear
Iron Spear
...
When I'll add the Scandinavian civilization, I want to end with

Warrior
Bronze Sword
Iron Sword
Medieval Sword
Bronze spear
Iron Spear
Sw_Warrior
Sw_Bronze Sword
Sw_Iron Sword
Sw_Medieval Sword
Sw_Bronze spear
Sw_Iron Spear

For the moment, I have to copy one by one each generic unit, then use the rule organizer to move them in the list (it's sorted alphabetically by civ, then line of unit, then chronolical order). It's very time consumming.

Let's ay I've finisht he spear line, and now want to do the sword line.

So I have

Warrior
Bronze Sword
Iron Sword
Medieval Sword
Bronze spear
Iron Spear
Sw_Bronze spear
Sw_Iron Spear

I would be very happy of I could select the first lines:

Warrior
Bronze Sword
Iron Sword
Medieval Sword

then hit the copy button and get
Warrior
Bronze Sword
Iron Sword
Medieval Sword
Bronze spear
Iron Spear
Sw_Bronze spear
Sw_Iron Spear
Warrior
Bronze Sword
Iron Sword
Medieval Sword

Then in the organizer select the last
Warrior
Bronze Sword
Iron Sword
Medieval Sword

but the target just after the first Iron spear, hit the move button

Warrior
Bronze Sword
Iron Sword
Medieval Sword
Bronze spear
Iron Spear
Warrior
Bronze Sword
Iron Sword
Medieval Sword
Sw_Bronze spear
Sw_Iron Spear

and then just rename.

Another useful tool would be a technologoly organizer. Having them alphabetically sorted for instance would be nice. In fact, anyway to help sorting the techs would be nice.

- When copyng a unit, the air defense is not copied (always 0). I often forget to put it back :(.
That is a bug. I'll fix it in the next version. (But I don't know when I'll have time to do a release again. (I've not replied yet because I hoped to find some time to resolve some of the minor issues, but haven't))
- Sometimes, with many units, when copying a bunch of them (even only 2), I get an error. I now have to copy them one by one.
Can you be more specific. I might have fixed something like this in my development version, but I'm not entirely sure.

I'm not sure about tags, but retaining the selection on copy should be easy to implement.

I'll see what I can do about this. Maybe not for the next release, but I'll look into improve the accessability.

Adding a technology organizer that works as the other rule organizer is trivial. I'll do that for the next release. I'll see about more advanced features if I find the time.

That is a bug. I'll fix it in the next version.

Good to know

Can you be more specific. I might have fixed something like this in my development version, but I'm not entirely sure.

Not easy to be more specific... When I use something else than "1" for the number of copies, and then apply, I can get an error saying something like "bad index", and then it screwed. I need to reload from the backup.
Also, it's not systematic. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't

I never get this when making 1 copy at a time.

I'm not sure about tags, but retaining the selection on copy should be easy to implement.

I'll see what I can do about this. Maybe not for the next release, but I'll look into improve the accessability.

That would save a lot of time! In my mod, with a few thousands units, it's really boring and time consuming to do by hand.
But your tool at least made it possible. I would have abandonned by mod loonng ago if I hadn't it to help.

Cool.

Gramphos! I'm so happy to see that C3MT development isn't dead yet :D This tool has been my must-have for a long time. Maybe you could take a look at a bug in my favorite module - Rules Organizer? Gameplay-wise reordering of city improvements isn't that important, but the feature is there already and with huge mods ordering helps a lot.

The problem I'm talking about is that any reordering of buildings causes all of them to receive two settings:
Required Improvement/Wonder: 1st Building on the List
Gain in Every City on the Continent: 1st Building on the List

e.g. normally the 1st Building on the List is "Palace", so if you reorder the buildings, all buildings in the biq will require Palace and will give Palace in all cities etc.

It seems Gramphos is not anywhere around anymore...

Does nay one know how to contact him?

I may try to continue improving this tool is Gramphos doesn't want to, but it would be easier with the source code :mischief:
