I need help! CIV III was running fine until I upgraded my PC with a new motherboard (soyo P4VDA) and new P4 2.4 Ghz processor. I used my old soundcard (soundblaster live) and grafic card (nvidia GeForxe MX 420). I have the newest drivers installed. RAM is 512 MB DDR, I have the newest windows and bios updates. No other programms or games give me problems. Only CIV III. After several movements or sometimes turns, the game just freezes. I have to restart the computer by turning it off....and off course all movements are lost. It's getting frustrating.....what could it be? As I said....no other problems with other applications or games..only civ III. I'm running W2000, direct x 9, got 2 fan's in the pc...so it's not overheating....i tried old video drivers.....same thing.....i have patch 1.29f installed. who knows what's going on?

in addition I tried those things as well: disabled Norton Firewall and Norton Antivirus 2002, I closed all application in the background which are not necessary for the game to run! - still the freezes occur frequently. Sometimes I can play for hours and like today for ex. I played for 10sec and it froze up. How had simular problems and how did you fix it? please email me at Str8t4it@cox.net

Is the entire Pc freezing up? What happens when you hit Alt+Tab and Caps Lock? Are they doing anything? What about ctrl+alt+del? What OS you using? And do you have a temp gague on your CPU? What temp is that? And finally, is the fan on your video card turning well?

Post back and I'll refine my questions a bit. We'll get to the bottom of this.

yes..the entire PC freezes up. I'm running Windows 2000 Pro, crtl+alt+del as well as alt+tab etc...doesn't work..the pc doesn't do anything. I have to do a warm start or turn the pc of to restart it and mouse doesn't move. I closed all other applications running in the background over task manager and it still happens. As I said in my other post sometimes I can play for somewhile..and other times it just freezes up after less and 2 min in the game. It also happens alot after I took over an enemy city. I also disabled sound....still the same. I tried alot and I'm out of ideas. The fan on my Video card works fine. In addition i have 2 more fan's inside the pc and they are working fine as well. The temperature is by 43 degree celsius which is normal. I reinstalled the game several times as well. All this happend after I put in a new motherboard (SOYO P4VDA) and a new P4 Prozessor 2.4Ghz. My old PC was a DELL XPST 500 MHz in it was running fine there. I'm using the same Graphic Card NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 AGP (64MB DDR) and Soundcard is Soundblaster LIFE Modell CT4780 OEM. I don't get any error messages prior the lock up.

Did you reinstall Windows after switching to the new motherboard or just swap boards and plug back in the hard drive? Sometimes doing that can cause problems and since you just swapped mobos I tend to think that coud be it. I don't exactly know why Civ3 is the only thing having problems, but I'm inclined to suggest a few Windows install after ever mobo upgrade. I've seen these types of problems after something like that.

you may need to re-install it. often times, ANY hardware change(new speakers don't count) or a new Operating System require someone to re-install the game
