Hallo out there

I’ve been playing Civ3 ptw multiplayer against, 1 human player and about 5 computer generated players in Simultaneous Moves mode over the LAN. The game works fine (bar the odd crash) except, when my units are in combat they take forever to do the battle. Just one unit combat can take 10-20 seconds. When I’ve got a stack of troops I can spend a whole go and they still have not finished fighting. I’ve taken off “animate battles” in the preferences but that did not help. Is this a common problem and can I do anything about it. Both our computers specs are 2100+, 512RAM, Gforce4 graphics cards and we’ve got the 1.14f patch.

cheers

Yep, makes Simultaneous useless, stopped playing that after 1 game. :( In theory it sounds good but leaves you with a game that is mostly a waste of time.

Do you play any of the multi-player modes or are they all useless.

No, not anymore, without the ability to have pop ups in MP (for techs and city builds, particularly), so that you can make decisions based on the actual events of the game, erodes the playability. Too much time is spent checking/modifying build orders and such, rather than being able to focus on strategy, movements and diplomacy. Having to queue up build orders and research paths is not the way to play the game well, therefore diminishing the true strength of your opponents to a 'club' level, IMO.
