Hi all,

I'm sure this problem has been addressed before, but as the search function is disabled I'm not sure where to find it.

I have an old laptop that I want to install Civ3 on (and eventually PTW) but I'm encountering a problem. I insert the CD and begin installation as usual, but at 45% complete installation it hangs, irrevocably. At the time it hangs, it states that it is installing C:\Games\civ3\Art\Flics\XE_CO2.flc

After a long while at that state, a dialog pops up that asks to insert "disk 0 that contains the file data3.cab"

Why is this happening?

My laptop has Windows 98SE. If more information is needed let me know. Thanks!

Could your disc be scratched? Try copying the whole CD to the harddrive and see if that works (assuming you have room on the laptop). Also, the drive could be flaking out when the laser is moving to that particular location (so you might not notice it with other game installs).

Try the copy thing and let me know how that goes.

That's a good idea! I'll try that.

Yep, my CD is scrathced, and I can't get a certain file off of it no matter which drive I try (and I've tried 4). Looks like I'll have to buy a new CD :(

Firaxis (or whoever was responsible for the actual packaging of the game) will replace it, but the cost is kinda high. I think it's around $10 for the replacement. That kinda sucks, but is still cheaper than buying completely new.
