The war is going in our favor, yes, but something new has come up. Should we pursue peace with Egypt for Monarchy, Contacts with X-Man, Hammy, The Chairman, 92g.

Repeat, thats

Peace with Cleo for Monarchy, Contacts with X-Man, Hammy, The Chairman, 92g.

No way. We are not getting a profitable peace and Memphis is under continued cultural pressure from Thebes. And this is also a violation of what we've agreed upon, despite my numerous peace-pleas, we should not stopping before we have Memphis, Thebes and Heliopolis.

We will not get back tech-wise if we take this deal, but we will if we push Egypt to it's limits by first taking Thebes and then capturing or taking Helio in peacedeals. This is an opportunity to get back in line in 1 big hit if we delay the peace now. After we take Thebes (and maybe Helio) Egypt will offer us anything we want and since we are Fanaticans we want a lot !

Cool......my hotel has a LAN............!

YES

The only thing we are not getting from Cleo in this deal is Construction, which we can trade to the Aztecs once we get Monarchy. I must admit that I am surprised by Rik Meleet's uncharacteristic about-face regarding peace, as he is(was) a proponent of changing our strategy to meet new circumstances. Now he wants to lobby with the hardliners for a war that shouldn't have gone this far in the first place.

Given Rik's example, we will never get "profitable peace" because we will have to continue to invest in this war. This is the best we will get, so let's end this............please!

Yes!

I feel this is more then enough to get peace, who knows these new contacts may be missing some of these techs we'll get and but have other's we need and willing to trade, thus making it more profitable then we even know now.

RECALL THE TROOPS, STARVE MEMPHIS!

AND RUSH CULTURE IMPROVEMENTS IN MEMPHIS WHEN WE CAN RUSH FOR GOLD!!

Bring our troops home. We should start on the Culture Phase of this War, Build Temples in Memphis (If the Domestic approves of the rush)

I voted yes to this. Let's end this war and focus on culture.

I have voted no. I realize the current administration did not start this foul war. I know the previous administration blundered its way to war but we must not compound the earlier mistake with another one now. The cursed Egyptians in Memphis will rise up against our rule and rejoin Egypt. Then our countrymen will cry for war once more after we have cut back on our military investment. Peace now is sheer madness. Let our legions press on to the gates of Thebes!

Well.... we have a 9/9 tie.... If we dont get more votes soon, I'll have to interpret the darn will of the people...

Sir John
Jun 22, 2003, 08:17 PM
hehe... I would say that it is a good deal but its even better to just take out theebes first since we will loose memphis in a cultural flip if we dont...

Im going to have to base a decision which effects the entire game on this... If by 2pm EST, this poll is still a tie, I will state the following:
Capture Thebes. Once this is done, the Egyptians will be severly crippeled. Once this is done, Sue for the following Peace:
Peace with Cleo for Monarchy, Contacts with X-Man, Hammy, The Chairman, 92g.
(If you can grab a WM or Construction with this, go right on ahead)

I would agree with that... destroy the capitol.. THEN sue for peace.

If that's what it takes to prove that this war was a bad idea from the start, then so be it. It would be another 6 turns until we can even consider attacking Thebes, most likely suffering the same casualties that we did in our conquest of Memphis. In Egypt's roaded territory, their Swordsman can move three times faster than we can, which entirely negates the slight advantage our Legions have.

I am tired of this war. It has dogged my entire tenure as President thus far. But today it will be over, as Egypt signs a peace treaty that will educate our people and introduce us to more of the world. To me this is more important than continuing a war that quite honestly hasn't been worth our investment so far.

If possible I would like to change my vote to "No" Thebes worries me too much and I want it out of the picture. THEN peace.

however something tells me it may be too late.

This is my poll. So I will change your yes to a no, making 10/10, leaving to my interpretation of Razing Thebes and then suing for peace.

From a poll assessor's point of view, the poll was already closed and the result was in favour of peace. By altering the result the poll may become invalid. This will mean that we stay at war until there is a new poll.

hmm.... looks like I started a policy debate......

Let's not start a new poll. This poll was clearly closed in favor of peace. Closing it and rendering it invalid would mean that the warmongers won (in continuing the war for another t/c) despite the fact that the poll was closed with the result in favor of peace.

@all- I had no intention on starting a new poll. I was just going to use the request of one person. This 1 request, he had voted yes and now wanted to change his vote to no. I realize that the vote is closed, but I feel his opinion matters. Is there any basis for changing it to a no?

If people would wait until they'd finished making up their minds before voting, we wouldn't have these predicaments. Regardless of my feelings on the issue, I would have to agree with Peri that this poll closed in favour of peace and that further fiddling with the results after the fact puts the entire thing on dodgy ground.

I would personally be inclined to disregard last minute changes of heart, unless experienced en masse by the population, and force those who voted before they'd thought things through fully to live with the consequences of their excessive haste in the hope that they'll learn from the experience.

I disagree with any invalidation as well, either accept my vote change.

or due to it's delay go with the original results.

Invalidating it would cause more damage to our polling policies.

BTW Ekl, at the time I was "sure" that wanted peace "now" however when I took a second look at the Save and realized that Memphis was nearly garenteed to flip I began reconcidering

I would like to do the same. I would like to change my Vote to No on the count that there is a culture flip risk in Memphis, If we can get more time to raze Thebes. Then we can sue for peace.

This is my poll. So I will change your yes to a no, making 10/10, leaving to my interpretation of Razing Thebes and then suing for peace.

Would that make it a 9/11 vote for suing for peace, Since I stated that I want to change my vote.

The result was 11/9 in favour of peace. Any attempts to alter the will of the people as expressed in this poll is likely to lead to confusion, disruption to the game and possibly a PI.
Therefore I strongly recommend that all parties accept the original result. :)

But some people, for instance Falcon and CivGeneral want to change their Yes to No. Since it is very close and the poll is somewhat too straightforward we might not be following the will of the people.

I for example would have liked the option: Yes, but only after we capture Thebes.

Just a point I think should be spoken.
