I recently bought the retail version of the half-life mod "Day of Defeat" it is a great game dont get me wrong. But shortly after that I begain to wonder if I could play the mods that were made for half-life, on a modded half-life engine. Most mods do work fine, however, when I downloaded counterstrike, things went wrong. Now keep in mind a friend of mine can run it perfectly. The problem is not that it wont run, it will.. but playing online is the problem. Whenever i switch games to counterstrike, and try to join a multiplayer game, it briefly loads (then stops) When i look in the console it sais "Unable to verify something something request.. cannot run without VALVE authentification" With a request I could provide the exact quote. I can start my own server, I can join spectator games, but cannot join an actual game. Can anyone help me here? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: This sometimes happens with regular DoD servers as well.

It may have something to do with your line when I downloaded counterstrike...

Maybe Valve don't like people using pirated games to play online....

Sorry Sturmgewehr, not even a hint of a clue... Maybe cruise some Half Life forums and ask there?

Could be an outdated patch version and many servers only allow the retail version on to games. If you get the latest patch and it still doesnt work you can always download a bot program like RealBot or something like that

Well.....I didn't know you could use the DoD to play CS. Since it's not the real HL that could be why. Someone else could be using your CD Key too. Sometimes I can't play for that reason.
