View Full Version : F-117 "Nighthawk" Stealth Fighter
snsfro Jul 03, 2003, 12:23 PM This is the F-117 Stealth Fighter. It is actually a cheaper, smaller stealth bomber since the F-117 doesn't carry any air to air missiles for intercepting aircraft. This F-117 has no civ-specific coloring on it because it is stealth and therefore should be hard to detect let alone identify. The stealth fighter in civ3 is a unit that has origins in the F-117, but has rounded surfaces and is not dark enough. This plane was built in the mid to late 1970's and is still in active use today. It is supposed to fly night missions only along with the B-2 "Spirit".
I don't know how to post an image, so if someone could it would be great!
Here it is:

snsfro Jul 03, 2003, 03:51 PM Here's the F-117:
Fëanor Jul 03, 2003, 07:39 PM hmmm whats the difference between this and the standard Lockheed F-117A thats in the game? (called stealth fighter)
Fëanor Jul 03, 2003, 07:51 PM oh and by the way, if u use standard unit sounds you can make the file much smaller (in this case 85kb instead of 740kb) just by making links to the sound files instead of copying the files.
example in the f117.ini under sounds
change RUN=StealthFighterRun.wav
into RUN=../Stealth Fighter/StealthFighterRun.wav
snsfro Jul 03, 2003, 07:54 PM Here's the original Stealth Fighter. Its as flat as a pancake, has rounded edges, and has air foils in the place of windows.:crazyeye:
unscratchedfoot Jul 03, 2003, 10:27 PM From what I know, the F-117 Stealth Fighter can carry any ordinance except for the real heavy stuff so it can also be loaded with air-to-air missiles. It's disadvantage in dogfights is that it has no radar and relies on cameras pointing in all directions for visual target aquistion only.
I could be wrong so don't sue me.
SK138 Jul 03, 2003, 10:45 PM I don't really know if thats wrong or right unscratchedfoot, but I can't see why they wouldn't have given it radar.
unscratchedfoot Jul 03, 2003, 10:57 PM I don't know either but I think it may be the weight of it. I learned this from a Microprose pc game about it. Also, I saw in a Popular Mechanics magazine about the F-117 is basically built like a tent with fabric stretched over a light alloy frame with not much inside other than the small propulsion system.
snsfro Jul 03, 2003, 10:58 PM I believe that it has a radar, but I know it cannot carry air to air missiles, I checked www.fas.org/man and am sure.
Kyborgi Jul 05, 2003, 09:14 AM I think it has only passive radar system for better stealth
