View Full Version : Rise of Nations: Good or Bad?
Portuguese Jul 07, 2003, 11:12 AM I like almost all strategy games, but I don't have many time to spare these days.
Should I go into this game?
What do you think: Is it worthy?
Thx in advance for the opinions. :)
WildFire Jul 07, 2003, 11:49 AM It's a great game. It even has it's own forum here at CFC!
:p
Thrawn Jul 07, 2003, 10:49 PM I call it real time civ on steroids. ;)
puglover Jul 09, 2003, 09:58 AM Sounds neat. I'll buy it when the price goes down.
Portuguese Jul 10, 2003, 05:29 AM I didn't noticed it has it's own forum.
I can now evaluate the game much better :)
Thx. :D
Wolfe Tone Jul 10, 2003, 03:49 PM It is very good, I played it today for the first time. It takes some of the best bits from Civ and Age of Empires and merges them
CivGeneral Jul 14, 2003, 09:44 PM Well, Hopefully I can rate this game when I get a new Laptop that can actualy Play RoN :D.
Free_Kill Jul 15, 2003, 08:01 AM This game is awesome, I bought it yesterday and I have been playing the demo for about a week. I havent had this much fun playing a RTS since Starcraft. The battles at the end of the ages are awesome.
I havent played online yet so I dont know how that is, but I plan on trying it today.
amirsan Jul 15, 2003, 04:45 PM I just saw this forum right now. Its been 7 days and 6 nights that I've been wanting this game... I dont have a 3D Card :( :( :( :(
RX2000 Jul 17, 2003, 12:36 AM I used to think the nukes in C&C Generals were bad until I played this game..... Wowee a nuke REALLY hurts here!
Zukatah Jul 27, 2003, 09:28 PM This game is simply incredible, I tried it tonight and it blows me away. *must get a fix*
Unregister Jul 28, 2003, 12:26 PM The game is friggen amazing, i just wish i didn't have so many other games at the moment...and i wish i could play a LAN against my bro's...however authority figures are preventing that...
WickedSmurf Jul 30, 2003, 05:52 AM I am unimpressed. It is too messy for my taste. I won't buy it, I'll stick with good ol' Civ 3, WarCraft 3 and of course the love of my life, StarCraft/BroodWars. =)
squeaky Aug 08, 2003, 09:46 AM I love that game, I've been playing it for a few months now, and haven't gotten tired of it yet. It has great graphics, great music, and some of the best gameplay I've seen in any game yet. :)
My only complaint is that India's not in it :( But hopefully it will be in the x-pack.
Silverflame Aug 08, 2003, 12:13 PM I love this game. While it may seem more like a sequal to AoE instead of a TBS RTS mix, I think it is very nice. Not only are the water effects and fog of war graphics awesome, it's a 2D game with 3D graphics, which I think is where strategy games should stay *cough*Empire Earth*cough*Warcraft*cough*
Excuse me. :p
RoN combined with Advance Wars 2 have completely ruined Civ3 for me. Oh well, CFC is still good
amirsan Aug 08, 2003, 12:48 PM I NEED A 3D CARD!!!!!!!
Hey its kinda confusing that, why does this game need a 3D Card?!?!? Nothing looks 3D!?!?!
t0mme Aug 13, 2003, 06:52 AM Well, the game is quite disappointing for it lacks depth. It's more right here, right now, in your face!
(But of course, I dislike RTS, because I think reflexes don't belong in strategy games. I want my games to be nice and slowely, life itself is busy enough.)
squeaky Aug 18, 2003, 04:31 PM I do agree with that. I like TBS much more than RTS. And the best TBS game is, of course, Civ 3 :)
squeaky Aug 18, 2003, 04:33 PM Hey its kinda confusing that, why does this game need a 3D Card?!?!? Nothing looks 3D!?!?!
Buildings and landscape are 2D. Units are 3D.
puglover Sep 12, 2003, 06:54 PM Oh wow! I just got the game today and I love it! Oh man! The graphics were sort of disappointing (no zooming with the mouse ball like EE); and attrition drives me nuts, but the Conquer the World campaigns are incredible! I played some battles and my shirt was wet with sweat. I have yet to win. The CTW campaigns are a good combination of TBS and RTS.
I'd highly recommend it.
Archer 007 Sep 12, 2003, 09:11 PM Its a pretty good game.
shinoui Sep 17, 2003, 01:58 AM I received RoN in May, I must admit that I was surprized in the good sense of the word. I'm very far to be a RTS player, it requires a too big stamina and adrenalin expense. Nevertheless I tried and in solo mode using the features of the game I found out it is possible to have fun and thinking in the same time, with an excellent sound track, a beautiful screen and this is a real pleasure, to complete a game in a short time.
The Sybex Strategy Guide is good and compared to the poor one issued by Prima for Civ 3 I can say it's an excellent book.
No way to compare RoN and Civ. I believe the both should be present in any gamotheque shelf and used as frequently as possible : week ends, got time, practice Civ(PTW) solo or multi whatever. Week time, not so much free long periods rush into a RoN fast solo game "Quick Battle" or try to complete one Age of Conquer the World (campaign mode)
Alone Sep 17, 2003, 08:52 AM I don't know, maybe I'm not valid person to judge this thing, but I try to play RoN and didn't like it. Looks to me like Empire Earth (with the same opinion) just modernized. But the same happened with me and MoO III. It's look that I have a problem: After start to play CivIII every other game look bad to me. Simply Civ III is just the game for my taste, and thats all.
shinoui Sep 18, 2003, 01:44 AM OK I do agree after Civ (whatever the number)it's quite difficult to appreciate other games maily the RTS type. I tried in his time AoE and was not convinced. I don't know Empire Earth but I was not attracted(RTS Yecch!). I made an exception for RoN just because I thought Brian Reynolds could bring something with a taste of Civ and I am not disappointed. Nevertheless, I'll stay for ever a Civ addict.
