MUDs! MOOs! MUCKs! MUSHes! Has anyone here played this staple of the Internet?

A MUD is short for Multi-User Dimension (or Dungeon), and basically it's a text-based MMORPG. Best thing is that most of them are free, and require little to no software.

Right now, I'm playing a MUD called Frontier.

In my days in university, they were all the rage. We even had our own local MUD, ran by fellow students, and designed with local content. :)

I didn't play that much though; was more into PC games like Civ2.

Realms of Despair is a good one.

Heh. I played a MUD in college that almost kept me from writing my thesis.

Can't remember the name of it, which is probably a good thing. :)

Nope, no text games for me. Got a friend who plays them religously however.

i got into them while i was in college...it was the only thing we could really play in the labs since we weren't allowed to install any games...

Text-based RPG. I was very addicted, but then (just like civ3) it got boring.

i dont really like text based games....seem boring..anyways, i play helbreath, which is like diablo, and they referred to MUD once..
