View Full Version : Help! (2 questions bout flicster)
Fëanor Jul 14, 2003, 05:43 PM first question: i just aquired a game and while browsing that game's files i found out that their units are almost exactly the same as the storyboards u create with flicster and SSB (See picture)
the difference/problem is that on a flicster storyboard the unit goes sw/s/se/e/ne/n/nw/w the one that this game uses go e/se/s/sw/w/nw/n/ne , is it possible to make flicster accept a difference sequence than the standard?? (otherwise i have to make all units cutting an pasting in a 8 file filmstrip , that takes like 5 minutes instead of 15 seconds....)
the second question is : i made a unit from the pic u see below , but the shadow has become civ specific.... how do i make the shield civ specific and the shadow normal?
thanks.
Fëanor Jul 14, 2003, 05:46 PM the unit's attack flc (with civ specific shadow!)
only hm.flc no sounds of ini
its a germanic? horseman (the pic above is a preatorian guard)

I don't *think* you can tell Flicster to use a different ordering on the storyboard, so you will have to cut & paste to either rearrange the rows in the storyboard or use the one file per direction method.

The civ-specific colors are the first 4 rows of the palette and the shadow is the final row, with the next-to-last color unused and the last color the transparent background. In Photoshop, the palette order is reversed. One method of handling this is to export an existing unit of a similar colorscheme in Flicster to get a reasonable palette, then apply that palette to your storyboard and make necessary adjustments.
Nder Jul 14, 2003, 10:24 PM what game is that, and what units can we look forward to? :)
Steph Jul 15, 2003, 02:38 AM Send me your file, and I'll add a features in SBB to reorder it automatically.
I need a few samples to test it. It will take 20 secondes instead of 15. Will it be acceptable then?
Xen Jul 15, 2003, 11:13 AM That game is called "legion", Its an O.K game, but not nearly as good as civ :)
god_money Jul 15, 2003, 02:27 PM Legion, eh? So this means there are some funky fresh Roman,
etc units to anticipate? :)

the game is Legion Gold , and u might see about 30 units from the ancient roman era (rome , tribals , german , and celts)
i allso got Chariots of War (same as legion with other units and some different building) so u might allso expect some 40 ancient Middle east units (from as southwest as egypt to as souteast as pakistan and from as norwest as turkey to as northeast as turkmenistan)
thanks to pdescobar for explainig me how the palette works
@steph: i'll upload some storyboards and pm u the link.
Steph Jul 16, 2003, 03:44 PM Ok, I've made a specific version of SBB very quickly. I've tested it with Windows XP, but I don't have time to test it on another system.
Can you check if it works for you Feanor?
Nothing fancy : purely fonctional.
How does it work? Well, it's pretty straightforward : copy all the PCX storyboard you want to convert in a folder (be sure you have nothing else in the folder).
Run SBB, click on the "legion gold converter" button. Select any of the file. Wait (it can be long, and there's no progress bar). When finish, you have a small "done" message.
What does this version?
- It takes the orientation and copied them at the correct position
- It expands a bit the storyboard to add the lines between the frames (the size of the storyboard is not the same for legion and for CivIII).
- It does this for all the pcx in the folder (kind of batch build).
Was does it not?
- First, I've supposed the frames are always square in legion. That's the case for all your samples. It they are not, you may experience some difficulties.
- Second, it produces true color bitmap, so you have to work with the palette before producing your units. Try to use PEdit (check the thread from Kinboat in the utility program), it's very nice : I'm using it to convert cossacks!
- Third, it doesn't resize the units. If you think they need to be increased / decreased compared to CivIII, I will add something to do this automatically when copying the frames.
- Fourth, it doesn't change the centering.
- Fifth, it doesn't bring out the garbage (use the "click me if you dare" button for that).
It's not perfect, but I hope it helps. It takes 4 seconds on my computer to process all your samples...

Yes you can... Do many new nice units that I can add in my mod!
mrtn Jul 17, 2003, 05:43 AM Yes, I didn't really know that I need 80 new units, but now I do. :)
Steph Jul 25, 2003, 01:02 PM So, were you able to make units with the new version of my tool?
Fëanor Jul 26, 2003, 03:39 PM i just have to re-centre them , and i will have to put civ specific colors on most of them so it might take a while before im finished.
