I only have a normal GBA. And I have the GBPlayer so I don't really think I need an SP.
If you guys like turn-based strategy games (which I'm guessing you all are since civ is turn-based) then get Advance Wars, either the first or second is up to you, they're both about the same. It's simple, fun, and can get insanely hard.
My current games:
Advance Wars 2
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past w/ Four Swords
Metroid Fusion
All three Super Mario Advances

I'm thinking about getting Golden Sun...oh, and I'm not interested in DBZ

can someone interest me in golden sun or castlevania? ive heard so much about them, but im not interested yet!

I got a silver one during a road trip back in March and I picked up Metroid Fusion with it. Metroid is really sweet but the narrow square shape makes it tricky to hold the L and R buttons while using the other buttons and the control pad, I think the regular advance would be better for this game. On the other hand the built in light makes the screen much easier to see and the lith-ion battery is a great feature. It even comes pre-charged so you can start playing right away even in the car like I did.

I don't understand why you people can't get your hands on them though. Every store around here has tons of them. What country are you in?

Does no one else have Advance Wars? It's like the best non-PC strategy game I've ever played, I like it even more than Civ! Come on, this game is like a must-have for the GBA! :)

Hmm, then I just might get Advance Wars as my next game. I know you already mentioned this, but I just want a clarification: Should I get the sequel? You say they're about the same, so does that mean that AV2 is slightly better? Does it follow a storyline, meaning I probably should get AV first? Just convince me to buy one or the other; I can't decide myself. :)

I never owned the first, and got the second. They are, however, essentially the same.

The storyline does continue from the first, but it's not like AW is story-based or anything. The gameplay is the same, only with one new unit, the Neotank, and a few new buildings. There's more Commanding Officers to chose from and I heard the AI is much better. But even though the second one is much harder in general, the first few missions are basically training missions for newbies to the Advance Wars series.

Then there's the cost issue. The first will be much harder to find, but it will only cost $20 whereas the second one is abundant and costs an additional ten.

I would (and have) choose the second, but the decision is up to you. :)

I would suggest the second one as well.

Out of curiosity who was your favorite CO?

@Willj
Glad I could be of help. Prepare to face addiction similar to Civ's. ;)

YES! I finally beat Advance Wars 2! :D (relatively speaking)

Actually I only beat the normal campaign, there's still a ton of other stuff to do, mostly unlocking the remaining COs :p

That was T minus 15, IIRC. That one was okay, it was a cinch compared to Green Earth...

My favorite CO so far may be Colin, but I recently bought Nell so I think I'll try her out. Sonja rocks in FOW though. The only CO I hate is Lash because of her annoying personality. Toodles! :p

u got any tips to beat that mission, couldn't beat it my 1st time tru

Silverflame
Aug 19, 2003, 08:55 PM
Sure. As you can see, there are three fronts. In the top front, capture the cities, and burst the seam on the right to reinforce the middle. With Andy's air force, wipe out the forces nearby, while staying out of missile range. Blow the seam the the far left with the bomber, so your airforce is striking the middle front from the right as well.

For Olaf in the middle front, advance westwards, and blow the two seams with your mid tanks. Throw all the A-Airs you got to the bottom front, and use the reinforcements from the top front to advance westwards, taking the cities with infantries in the process.

On the southern front, capture the airport and hold you're ground with you're A-Airs until reinforcements from above arrive. Once the bombers and b-copters are gone, the rest of the units are toast to fresh bombers from your airport.

Hopefully you can clear Flak's forces from the middle front in 6 days, giving you plenty of time to capture the cities. If you're worried about score, then destroy as many units as you can in one turn to help power, and join severely damaged units to help technique. Spamming T-Copters from the airport near the end will improve technique as well.

I love Advance Wars, my friend have it. We have a GBA SP each. He has a Silver one, and I got the Blue one.

I got Metroid Fusion and Mario Kart.

Gonna buy Advance Wars and Golden Sun later from the US for $20 each when I get my Credit Card.

Anyone here looking forward to Fire Emblem?

Planet Gamecube just put up some impressions of Fire Emblem, which is coming to the US on the GBA. For those who don't know, Fire Emblem is an extremely popular series in Japan that never reached the US until now. If anyone owns SSBM, Fire Emblem is where Marth and Roy are from.

There are seven in the series, and the one being brought to the US is the seventh, which is the first in the story. Seems very similar to Advance Wars and being made by the same company, only with more RPG elements within. Coming out in early November, I can't wait. :)

fire emblem sounds SO COOL!!! btw, Advance Wars & Advance Wars II are my favorite GBA games:D If only the console companys could take a hint that strategy games DO sell on consoles, considering how advance wars is one of the most bought games on the GBA

i hope to be getting an SP soon and trading in my old GBA:)

If Fire Emblem sells well, then more Fire Emblems will be ported, some definately will go to the Gamecube. :)

I wouldn't be suprised if they had an Advance Wars style game for the Gamecube or next-gen, seeing as the had them for the NES, SNES, and Gameboy

Terrible news...

I'VE LOST MY GBA SP!

My family and I moved to a new house three or so weeks ago, and by now we've unpacked and settled in, finding just about everything ... except for my GameBoy Advance SP and Sonic Advance.

Wish me luck in eventually finding it!

Why in the names of the gods would you pack your GBA? I certainly would have had it in hand, or atleast in pocket, during the moving process. But good luck in the search.

Well, there's plenty of other things you could say that about, and I have a limited number of hands. ;) But you're right; I should have been more careful. I just didn't see this coming...

What's strange is that I remember putting it in a plastic bag and then in a shopping bag, and then I found some of the stuff that was put with it, but not it. :hmm: Sigh... The longer the search goes on the longer it seems like I wasted $130 and about 25 hours of my time. Well, it could be worse; I'm lucky this didn't happen after I amassed a large collection of games and had played them quite a bit.

Good luck in the search Willj, chances are that the GBA SP will turn up when you least expect it.

Otherwise Cedric Greene is right, why didn't you keep it in your pocket? ;)

My cousin works at EB, and he says there are way too many movies in it, which is plain stupid to have movies in a GBA game IMO.

I agree with that, but I rarely play my GBA on the go (usually only on vacation). I treat my GBA games the same as my GCN games, I play them both on my TV (I have a GBPlayer)

Well, the intro was pretty long... It's probably because it's a GBA game so even though the cutscenes are short compared to other RPGs it's too long to play in ten minute bursts.

Yeah, I can only manage one clan battle during my lunch-break (the 1/2 hr portion apart fr actual eating), and only some planning and buying/equipping during the 10-15 mins' mass transit ride to work...

FFTA is definitely a game you need to sit down and play - not really for on the go playing... :)

And Xenosaga has them regularly, at half-an-hour long each.

Haha FFTA is one of the most addicting games I've played in a while (next to Advance Wars). I wish I had more time to play it. I guess it was a good idea for me to start with a strategy RPG then, since I was already somewhat used to the turn-based format.

Friend: Arrgh, I'm still on "Snowball Fight"
XIII: Still?
Friend: I can't figure out how to kill Mewt
XIII: ...

Actually, It's possible to kill Mewt if no one misses (I tried but missed once so he still had one health) :p

Actually, he's bothering me about stuff like skills and job changings... :p

If I can learn the game on my home (after some misses), I fail to see why he can't. Hope he gets up to the level of linking, and then I'll have some goods in the shops to actually buy. :)
