Can someone explain to me the significance of Hungary throughout history. Many people don't know much about that Eastern European country, so I was wondering if anyone out there does and would like to enlighten me. I know they played a roll in defeating the Mongols and the Ottomans, but to what extent? What religion is/has Hungary primarily? Thanks for the help.

It has always been one of the most important eastern european countries. As far as I remember it was christianized in 1000Ad or was it 1001Ad? Today they are a mix of Catholics and Protestants(Catholics are dominating, I think)

The Hungarians also belong to a very unique group of people, the Ugrians(I think thats how its spelled). The only other two Ugrian countries are Finland and Estonia.

during the 1400's hungary was the major force slowing ottoman growth in the balkens, under hunyadi and matthias but that ended in 1526 at mohac's you need vrkylakas to see your thread, this is his area.:)

What kind of Protestants are they, if any? I know that they originally came from the Magyars, but in terms of ancient history that's about it.

I heard as well that they were Catholics and Protestants, not Orthodox.

you may think that the original coverts mite of ben from byzantine ( i don't know ) but after 100's of years under the roman catholic habsburgs they would be catholic
