I'm not too often an intruder into these erudite forums  I have a rather strange question ;)
I'm writing the rules for a board-game somewhat like Civilization, and just like in the computer game there are several "technologies" that can be discovered. I've decided that these should be split into six categories: Art/Philosophy, Science, Warfare, Civics, Exploration, and Religion.
The game covers the period 800-1648 AD in Europe and the Mideast. My problem is, I'm not all that big an expert on this time period and I don't know which are the best technologies to include. So, any advice you have would be very helpful ;) In Warfare, for example, I have Stirrups, Armor, Longbow, Gunpowder so far. In Art and Philosophy I'll include techs like "Rediscovery of Latin Manuscripts", "Humanist Philosophy" and "Science of Perspective". Exploration will have to include "Silk Road", "Far East", "New World", etc. These are just examples.
Something in this boardgame that's not included in Civ3: there will be "leaders" which you can use to lower the prices of certain technologies [by giving discounts to the price you have to pay to buy the tech]. So, if you know of any historical personalities that were involved in these discoveries, that would help too. For example, Francis Bacon would give a credit for "Scientific Method" and "Gunpowder", Brunelleschi would give a credit to the "Science of Perspective" tech, Vasco da Gama would give credits for "Far East", Prince Henry the Navigator and Frederick II will both give credits for "Universities", and so on. It's OK to include non-Europeans, for example Averroes for "Rediscovery of Latin Manuscripts".
Thanks in advance for your help! :goodjob:
