Devoting with this a little thread to the game Minesweeper, which has been standard in Windows as long as I can remember.

In spite of it being rather primitive, I find it's a great game, I keep playing it over and over.

Do any other people here have any feelings for that cute little point and click game?

That's such a fun game. Got 26 seconds on beginner:cool:

10 seconds for beginner
70 seconds for intermediate
370 seconds for expert

I could improve on the time for expert probably, but I'm too lazy. It's more chance on expert, cause there always seems to be one that requires guessing. Screenshot available upon request. :)

But yeah, it's an awesome game. I remember I use to play it whenever my parents drag me to shop with them. It's the game that's actually playable on the display computers.

I prefer playing Minesweeper the 'custom' way. That means making board as huge as possible, starting out with 10 mines, working your way adding 10 for each game. Around 150 it gets hard. I'm at 190 at the moment, and it's almost impossible, because of the guessing.

'Expert' is actually a bit too easy.

Beginner: 4 sec
Intermediate: 35 sec
Expert: 111 sec

Seems I got the record so far. :p

Beginner: 8 sec
Intermediate: 64 sec
Expert: 180

I believe I can improve on them though.

Although on my old computer sometimes the minesweeper clock would go extremely slow, so it ended up that I had 1sec for Beginner, 2 for Intermediate and 3 for Expert... quite impressive, unfortuantly I don't have a screen shot of that.

How can you suck at Minesweeper?

lol, cool, didn't know you can hack it. But that still doesn't answer my question. Matrix got 4 seconds, and a few other people have gotten REALLY fast time on intermediate and expert. Just lucky I suppose, or is there some tricks I don't know about Minesweeper?

0 or 1 second in beginner as you can win with one click...

Tesla Tank

Umm... no you can't.

IIRC there is a glitch to stop the clock in Minesweeper. Forgot how it's done, but i think it had something to do with MS D0S.

"How can you suck at Minesweeper?"

So I still hold the record, on all three levels! :D Cos mine is for real. ;)

Yes you can. My record is 1 second since on the beginner map it is possible to win simply with one click. If you play it enough you should at least notice that you can win with just 2 or 3 clicks as the first click can reveal most of the map and then you just have to click on one or two more squares but sometimes you can win with just one click. Just read the previous minesweeper threads or ask Genghis or just play minesweeper a bit more.

I would post a screenshot but it wouldn't prove anything...

How? There are 10 mines in beginner. You need to click at least ten times to mark those mines. And that would require more than 1 second.

Alex the Great

Not really, on several occasions I merely had to click the last mine-free spot to win rather than mark all the mines.:) But I still have the habit of marking the last (mine, that is), THEN pressing the last square.;)

You don't need to mark the mines as you can be lucky and all the surrounding squares will be cleared so that the mines will be found for you.

I see... guess you learn something new everyday. Cool. I gotta try that. Maybe I'll get 1 second too. :) Thanks.

8/39/139 are my best times. I edited a screenshot with paint to show the times as 3, 14, and 36 and i printed it out and my friends believed me! Paint r0x

Tesla, I often play minesweeper (expert) without marking any mine. ;) You just got to remember where you know they are, but often need to recount too. It makes the game harder.

By the way, in beginner I tend to mark as less as possible, because it's a waste of time.

Wolfe Tone

Well I normally mark them all because I like using the click with both buttons technique.
