I know that Strategic Simulations was bought out 2-3 years ago by another gaming company, and I was interested in knowing if anyone is aware of plans to continue the Panzer General Series of games. The last inastallment was PZIII Scorched Earth which was released about 3 years ago.

The five star series are some of my favorite games ever, and I still play Panzer General pretty often. Would love to see another installment of PG which built more on the concepts of PGII and discarded some of the less usefull concepts of mating leaders with equipment that was introduced in PG3D and PGIII.

Anyways, has anyone heard anything about the future of the PG series?

I liked PGII very much and was dissapointed by PGIII . I'd like to see sequel to this game but PGII-like .

I don't know about PGIV. :(

I like all PGs. Even PGIII. It uses complex actions concept that looks like much better than in PG1-2. But the PGIII graphic engine is terrible. :(

I only have the original PG. It's a pretty good game. Haven't quite mastered it, but I'm getting there.

I picked up the four pack -- PG, Allied G, Fantasy G & Star G. Star G. has a downside in that the ai takes an extremely long time for some of its moves -- maybe 20 minutes for a large scale invasion response with aircraft. Great game for those times when I have RL responsibilities to distract me from gaming.

I never 'got' Star General - maybe because it looked hideous or didn't seem too difficult somehow. As a whole the original is my favourite among the bunch, though as a campaaign, the Russian campaign from AG stands out - great fun racing against heavy resistance over vast distances on a tight schedule !
Fantasy General was nice too, even if I wasn't too much into the theme.

Though I'm fairly certain I played PGII at some point, it just doesn't stand out in my memory - it's likely Steel Panthers (another great old SSI game) occupied its place instead. Thanks for bringing it up again, joycem :goodjob: Sadly though, I have no idea whether there will ever be another...

PZII is definetly my favorite. my disk was pretty destroyed also, but i found it bundled with panzer commander (a completely useless game) in the discount bin last year for five bucks.

star general was bad in that the AI was unable to react to planetary invasions. it just sat there and rearely counter attacked.

I had PG and AG for my playstation. THe russian campaign on the Playstation was fatally flawed in that, if you did not achieve a brillant win (or whatever its name) it was considered a loss. 3 losses on that campaign and you were sacked by STAVKA. Made the early game with substandard equipment and unexeperienced troops very difficult. I only finished tiwce, and that with alot of saving and reloading.

Ouch ! That's a gamebreaker if ever I saw one... I nearly won a Major Victory at Pskov (the first battle) once, but didn't get it because I accidentally left a town empty and it was retaken by a German recon car on the very last turn :( Most other battles were indeed equally tricky.
