I have 4 turns left until I build the Theory of Evolution and it will take 4 turns to research Steel. If I continue researching will I:

A.) Get Steel AND TWO additional free techs :)

OR

B.) Get Steel as one of the free techs AND ONLY ONE additional tech :(

?

The game figures your research before the production of your cities.

So you will get steel, then your 2 free techs, if steel and TOE are due on the same exact turn.

Someone will need to confirm but I remember that you get the tech you research first and the ToE build with it’s two free techs afterwards.

Thanks for your repsonses. I can proceed without fear of wasted research. :)

Yes, you'll get Steel first, and then pick your next tech before ToE completes.

But be careful! Since ToE becomes available about the same time as pollution starts appearing for many people, there is a very, very small chance that you could get ToE earlier than expected. Here's how: With 2 turns to go on ToE you click end of turn. At the next turn, pollution hits an irrigated grassland or similar flatland in your ToE city -- the AI moves a city laborer from the polluted land to a mined mountain -- the laborer wasn't there before because the positioning would generate starvation. The movement from a flatland to the mountain generates just enough extra shields to reduce the ToE build from 2 to 1 turns, and presto, you build ToE one turn before you discover Steel. The circumstances are very, very rare, and it's never happened to me with a wonder (but has happened with things like solar plants as SS part pre-builds), but it is worthwhile checking exactly how many shields until ToE is completed, and, if a reshuffling of laborers would get it sooner than desired, to put a few laborers on entertainment duty for one turn, just to assure that your timing is accurate.
