I've played civ3 to death, actually getting kinda bored with it.

What are some other games with a deep economy system?

Not anything like starcraft or warcraft, too simple...Or any of the other civs/alpha centauri...

Just something with a nice emphasis on your home turf, and trade and stuff like that.

Thanks!

A good classic is Sid Meier's Colonization, and if you've never played them, Alpha Centauri and its expansion, Alien Crossfire, are games that some like even more than Civ 3. Personally, I'm not into futuristic games, but if you are, you should love it!

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for but then you MAY just find yourself hooked. Romance of the Thre Kingdoms. :D Newest version which is 8, is coming out on the 15th of August. It is a turn based strategy game. Ancient China, lieges and warlords and generals and serfs. They toned down some of the micromanagement but it is a solid series ... Oh yah, it's a console game. Playstation2. :goodjob:

I've never personally played the DyP mod, but most of those who have can't seem to go back to regular Civ...

I can recommend E-CIV as the best multiplayer Civ-like game. :)

It have the most deep economy system in the genre of global strategies. The biggest trouble (on the other hand, the biggest benefit) - it is PBEM, by e-mail only.

the Master of Orion series is great... I was totally hooked to the first one, don't know about the reincarnations.. MOO3 is supposedly extremely complex...

I recommend Heroes of Might and Magic III and IV. They are turn based strategy games just like Civ, but take place in a fantasy world, with lots of cool magic and artifacts. :)

Europa Universalis II. Only covers the 4 centuries, it's an RTS but it has everything that civ3 doesn't, and makes the latter feel like something from the 80s :goodjob:

Totally agree with Calagus, and don't let the word "RTS" turn you off, it is pretty much a TBS with automatically moving turns (every day can be considered as a turn) and you can pause it as much as you want, it has nothing in common with starcraft or WC3 whatsoever, and it is a VERY good game, I got totally hooked on it only a few days ago (when i bought it), the games even last longer than Civ's games (much longer actually! )

After nine straight months of nothing but civ3, I went down to the local game store and purchased a copy of Port Royale (a trading/pirate game set in the Caribean between 1500 and 1700). Aside from the nearly vertical learning curve, this is an open ended entertaining game with almost no limit to what you can do. You can be anything from a humble trader to a bloodthirsty pirate (or maybe a little of both).
