If you look in the military advisors screen and click on his icon in the top right corner, he will say either we have a strong military or a weak military, or an average military compared to whatever civ is highlighted below.

What I want to know is what is the difference between being weak, average and strong ( and any others if I have missed them).
Is it a number of my units versus my opponents units or is it a percent more units then my opponent or is it something else?

Do you need to have 1 more then the other to be considered stronger then him?

Yoda Power> That is old stuff. It has been patched since civ3 1.29.

Below is a research someone made just recently.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The unit stregth is (3A+2D)HP+B
A - attack strength
D - defence strength
HP - helth point
B - bombard

Then, the total armystrength is sum of unitstrengt + 4
The +4 is probably an easy way to get rid of divison by 0 for civs without any units.

My superspeed chariot 1.1.100 was no better than a warrior.
I have just test HP a few times, needs more.
I have not tested bombard rate/range, combination of bombardstregth and attack/defence.
4 catapults is just sligtly better than 1 regular warrior.

1.25 Strong
0.8 Weak
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the military advisor thing, he always tells you we can support a bigger army, even when I can't. Does he not notice that my account is currently O and I'm at my max for allowed units? What is that all about?

Yes but you're earning gpt, so you can support a bigger army;) He isn't happy unless your not earning anything or going broke supporting your units.

I'm with vbraun, especially concerning the other advisors. The map is covered with my cities, I can neither trade for luxuries, build more cities, or support more units!

vbraun is right... the advisors usually lead you in the wrong direction. I rarely listen to them. If I think my armada is big enough... I go in for the kill (unless against a militaristic civ... they're kinda different).
