I have an idea... can we build a canal unit which looks like a worker but in fact is a settler and use it to build a canal instead of a city? U can place it over narrow land like the suez and make a canal.

Yoda Power Oct 25, 2003, 11:42 AM Im 100% sure that cant be done, sorry. Ozymandias Oct 25, 2003, 01:08 PM Can't be done BUT -- How about an MF=0 DF=0 boat (i.e., capturable) which utilizes a canal (or pontoon bridge, or whatever) graphic? The delay in load / unload would represent transit time. A bombardment factor could simulate shore batteries. Obviously this would only work for scenario placement, but so it goes ... Heck, I'd love a worker that could do things like "create" horse herds or cattle, but I suppose the designers had to draw the line somewhere. -Oz Kryten Oct 25, 2003, 03:33 PM Originally posted by ozymandias How about an MF=0 DF=0 boat (i.e., capturable) which utilizes a canal (or pontoon bridge, or whatever) graphic? Unfortunately, if in Civ3 you have a ship/boat/pontoon bridge with a defence of zero that also has a unit on board, then NO unit can attack it! It can't be sunk (as it has a defence of zero)....and it can't be captured (because of the unit on board). :( Ozymandias Oct 25, 2003, 03:38 PM Originally posted by Kryten Unfortunately, if in Civ3 you have a ship/boat/pontoon bridge with a defence of zero that also has a unit on board, then NO unit can attack it! It can't be sunk (as it has a defence of zero)....and it can't be captured (because of the unit on board). :( 1. Even lethal bombard? ; and 2. So more of a Gibraltar than a Suez ... Bobby Lee Oct 25, 2003, 08:56 PM actually that is acurate...if a ship was in the canal at the time of capture that nation in ownership of the ship could make the canal useless by blowing up the ship thereby sinking itin the middle of the canal. That would both block up the canal and damage it heavily. just a thought... being as my military expertise is pretty much land based I could be way out in left field embryodead Oct 26, 2003, 09:04 AM Originally posted by Kryten Unfortunately, if in Civ3 you have a ship/boat/pontoon bridge with a defence of zero that also has a unit on board, then NO unit can attack it! It can't be sunk (as it has a defence of zero)....and it can't be captured (because of the unit on board). :( It's not true, at least not for CIV3PTW with latest patch. I felt strange when you wrote it since I have the 0.0.3 coracle in my mod as a 1st transport unit, and remember capturing it and having it captured. So again, I tested it, and it works fine. A naval unit with defense of 0 is always captured no matter if it has unit on board or not (transported units just die, or "disappear" so to speak). Oz: as for using this as canal, it should work, but don't expect the AI to be smart enough... Hi Embryodead, I would only use this at a scenario's beginning -- e.g., I've suggested to Rocoteh that he consider making the Mississippi et. al. in his ACW mod navigable by making it all coastal tiles whilst using units like this as strategic river crossings -- surely the AI is "smart" enough to board a transport to cross a body of water ... Yeah, yeah, I know, hope springs eternal ... ;) -Oz |
