View Full Version : Errors in Civ3Edit
ShADoW^HawK Nov 10, 2003, 08:12 PM Error in Civ3Edit
I open Civ 3 Edit, and when I press "new" in the file menu (or the "blank sheet of paper button" in the taskbar) I get an error message that says:
ERROR: Could not open file for reading.
Then I get a new map? Also, when I try and edit the rules in Civ3, now it shows on some of them that there is nothing to select. As if there are no civilizations and no units in the game. Please help me.
BTW, I have CIV 3 Vanilla
ShADoW^HawK Nov 12, 2003, 08:09 PM CAN SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME?
WhteDrgn Nov 13, 2003, 11:40 PM First, which civ3edit are you using? Original, ptw, or conquests?
Second, are you opening up two sessions of civ3edit and then closing one before trying to make a new map? If you open up two sessions of civ3edit, and then close one, the temp save directory for civ3edit closes and thus causes file access/save issues. Try to only oopen one at a time. If that's the issue, it's possible, depending on you flavour that you might not have the correct .bic, bix or biq file in the right directory for the editor to pick up and read properly.
Third, if order to edit rules, especially if you've never played with a fresh bic/x/q file before, you need to go up to Scenario Properties and select Custom Rules, only then can you edit the Rules... same with being able to place units on a map.
Cheers
ShADoW^HawK Nov 14, 2003, 10:54 PM I already said earlier that I had Civ 3 Edit Vanilla (original),
2: I am talking about when I go to Start->All Programs->Infogrames Interactive->Civilization 3->Civ3Edit->Civ 3 Edit (application). Now then, when I open the program, it loads and opens with the first thing being an error message saying what I said above in my first post. After that I click close/ok. Then a new Civ3Edit map opens, with all of the map being ocean like normal.
3: I know how to edit the rules, I have done several other maps for my own leasure. Let me show you several screen shots of what I'm talking about about how the editing rules section is messed up.

ShADoW^HawK Nov 14, 2003, 11:00 PM Here's another screenshot of my messed up as hell Civ 3 Edit Vannilla:
ShADoW^HawK Nov 14, 2003, 11:01 PM I had more but they're too big. Please help me people. I don't want to have to start depending on a friend to make civ3 maps for me.
WhteDrgn Nov 14, 2003, 11:09 PM Well, the next thing I have to ask, since you are running on XP, are you logged on as administrator, or have been granted administrator rights?
[Second, when in the civ3edit, can you click on "File" - "Open" and attempt to open the civilization.bic file? Does civ3edit stay the same? ] Scratch that, new should do the same thing... As an excersise check it, but don't expect anything different. Also when you do click open inside civ3edit, what folder does it start in?
Don't worry, this is how all help center techs sound, they have to go through an almost script like way of troubleshooting in order to cover all the bases.
Cheers
Weasel Op Nov 22, 2003, 05:38 PM I've had this happen a couple times before. Is it always like this or just once in a while? I just restarted my computer and it worked fine. AFAIK, the error message doesn't mess anything up. I've seen that several times and it still worked fine.
