Hi,

I just played the Japanese conquest on Chieftain. I don't remember the exact house I played, but it was bright green (and the description said it was one of the oldest houses, if that helps ID which house I'm talking about).

Anyway, I was very excited about the upgradeable Daimyo/Shogun levels, so I concentrated on researching those advances, but even though I should have been able to get as high as Shogun-4, my Daimyo never showed an upgrade button when he was in my cities with barracks.

Has anyone else seen this bug? Or if it's not a bug, what did I do wrong?

Did you have enough gold? It costs 30 gold for each 10 shields of upgrading so you need 60 gold to go from Shogun 1 to Shogun 2, another 60 to Shogun 3, and another 60 to Shogun 4.

i have the same problem. daimyo is in city with barracks and i have 112 gold :(

uplaoding a save didn't work since the file is too big :(

status, you need 180 gold for your save, you had the tech for Shogun-4.

You need enough money and a barracks to upgrade units. I was playing the Shogun scenario and i had a barracks in the city and had like 500+ gold and i upgraded my shogun each time the tech for it came avaliable.

Mystery solved. I remember that particular game *was* running low on gold early in the game; once I fell behind, I didn't put two and two together that I would need enough gold for the *current* upgrade possible, not just the one that I could afford.
