I really doubt it ;)
Bootstoots Nov 16, 2003, 12:34 PM Hehe, this'll be my first real PBEM or MP game of any sort. I probably won't win, but hopefully I can at least do some serious damage. ;)
Strider Nov 16, 2003, 12:38 PM Turn 2 sent on to bootstoots... Moving pretty fast
Bootstoots Nov 16, 2003, 12:46 PM On to Gainy.
Gainy Nov 16, 2003, 12:50 PM Back to Strider...
Strider Nov 16, 2003, 12:58 PM Turn 3 started... passed on to bootstoots... boot's passed it on to gainy... (interesting)
Strider Nov 16, 2003, 01:09 PM Turn 4 starts... passed on to bootstoots

Bootstoots Nov 16, 2003, 04:57 PM Ok, turn sent to Gainy. BTW, Gainy and I have made in-game contact.
CivGeneral Nov 16, 2003, 05:05 PM I am interested in playing a PBEM game with Boots, Strider, and Gainy.
I promise that Ill send the save as quickly as possible.

Ok, though its going to be called "Chatroom Rivalry 2" Let me know later tonight :)
Gainy Nov 17, 2003, 10:59 AM Sent back to Strider... I won't be able to play in this one, as I have too much to do with school at the moment. Maybe around Christmas though...

Are you talking about this one or the one CivGeneral proposed? If you're talking about this one, I think you should try your best to stay; if you send the save at the rate of once a day it should take only about 10-15 minutes in each day.
Gainy Nov 17, 2003, 04:01 PM I was referring to CivGeneral's proposal, i'm here till the end ;)
Bootstoots Nov 17, 2003, 04:21 PM Sounds good, save passed to you. :)
Gainy Nov 17, 2003, 04:48 PM ...and sent back to Strider.
Just to update peeps, Bootstoots just declared war on me :crazyeye:
Spacetrvler Nov 17, 2003, 05:18 PM hey, can i get in on rivalry 2?

I guess... CivGeneral is organizing it... so you'd have to ask him.
Also, boots... I'm guessing Gainy currently has the save?
Bootstoots Nov 17, 2003, 06:46 PM Yes, I sent the save to Gainy. The war declaration was accidental, I actually meant to renegotiate peace but apparently the peace treaty didn't go through. :crazyeye: It should be straightened out next turn.

Ok, I'm going to post some screenshots later on. I'm nearing on someone... I know that for sure... Not sure who though... I think it might be gainy though.. and I'm guessing your near-by then boots?
Gainy Nov 18, 2003, 03:30 AM Well if its light blue, then it's gonna be me...
Myself and boots have made peace (I didn't take his worker out of sportsmanship ;)), and yes, he started fairly close to me.
Save sent to Strider...
Strider Nov 18, 2003, 04:27 PM Ok, the screenshots that I promised:

Gainy Nov 18, 2003, 04:42 PM Sent back to Strider. I can'not post a pic of my map, as it would give too much away. I'll post one later on in the game though :)
Superevie Nov 18, 2003, 05:02 PM Looking good, y'all. ;) I'm going to have to keep an eye on this... GO STRIDER! ;)

Go Strider? Why don't you cheer for the underdog, the one who's never played a PBEM before (excluding the MSDG and a very short-lived one with Strider and CG), who has only won one game at regent and none above that (not counting the DG), and who has the lowest score. Namely, go me. :D
Anyway, save to Gainy.

I guess because I'm winning... I've beaten diety... and I've won/played many PBEM's already. ;)
Superevie Nov 18, 2003, 06:21 PM Because I was told to. :mischief:
Strider Nov 19, 2003, 06:48 PM Save passed to boots
CivGeneral Nov 19, 2003, 09:23 PM Once this game is over I am planning to host the CHatroom Rivalry 2 :)
Spacetrvler Nov 19, 2003, 10:11 PM can we start it now or at least soon?
Gainy Nov 20, 2003, 11:01 AM Strider, I've also beaten Deity, and you're only winning cause you got a city/settler from a hut ;) I've not seen a hut yet... :(
Boots has a warrior on my furs, and I request for Boots you remove it (from my territory)... I don't care about your exploration needs ;)
Here's an updated pic of my territory...

Edit: And Spacetrvler, doesn't it kinda defeat the point of having a "Chatroom Rivalry" thread, if the participant(s) don't visit the Chatroom? :p
Strider Nov 20, 2003, 04:28 PM Gainy... actually... No... I didn't get it from a hut ;)
Also, save passed to boots
Bootstoots Nov 21, 2003, 04:18 PM Save has been passed to Gainy.
Gainy Nov 21, 2003, 04:40 PM Gainy... actually... No... I didn't get it from a hut ;)

WildFire Nov 21, 2003, 05:14 PM Gimme a break.
You guys are in the chatroom. No point saying "Sent."
Now screenshots... those would be appreciated.
Bootstoots Nov 21, 2003, 07:41 PM I think you two should come up with creative names for your cities. ;)
Gainy Nov 21, 2003, 07:42 PM I thought my funky text was enough :mischief:
Strider Nov 21, 2003, 07:45 PM I'll come up with some creative names, but you guys won't understand them ;).
Bootstoots Nov 21, 2003, 09:14 PM Save to Gainy about an hour ago, and that's it for tonight.
Spacetrvler Nov 21, 2003, 11:09 PM lol, I understand your problem but I can never get the chatroom to work anymore. but im willing to have a forum rivalry and to start it out: I've won on diety, and even if you had 5 settlers from goody huts on the first turn, I would still win ;)
Strider Nov 22, 2003, 10:45 AM An update:
The Indians are now destroyed.. I took there capital (and only city) acouple of turns ago. Currently the points are at:
Strider: 93
Gainy: 67
Boots: 63
Gainy Nov 22, 2003, 10:52 AM May I add that there is some tension at the moment between myself and Strider, as I have increasingly little space to exapnd, and he is next to me looking fearsome ;) War is imminent...
Strider Nov 22, 2003, 11:23 AM The tension has broken.. Currently, both boots and I are at war with Gainy.... boy he's screwed..
Strider Nov 22, 2003, 12:06 PM Ok, an update (and some screenshots) Gainy, boots, and I have agreed on a peace settlement.. under some certain conditions...
Here is some screens:

I rejuvinated myself and Boots' peace treaty, and put 5 gold on the table as well, then next turn I see this...

WildFire Nov 22, 2003, 12:32 PM AFAIK, you don't know what its like to play mp (pbem in this case) as its against a human who is unpredictable (col), or in this case them two. Good luck Gainy, but I see your death soon and its gonna be Boots vs Strider very soon.

That's true, in my other PBEM (out of 2 including this) i'm still in BC. I thought I could take people's word for things. I had a warrior outside Boots' EMPTY capitol in the early game, and didn't take it even when he declared war on me. I could have got a worker also... This was only because we had this peace treaty (which he paid me 5 gold), and he accidentaly delcared war on me...
Guess i'll never trust him again.

That was VERY dumb of you. Take ANY chance you get. I've played (and playing) many pbems. Take ANY you chance to hurt the other humans. Chances are you won't get another chance and it will come back to bite you in the ass.
Guess i'll never trust him again.
Don't do that. Yes, be wary of him in future pbems, but don't do that. Col backstabbed me but I don't/won't use that against him in future pbems.

I had a spearman built before you could have taken the city, though not before you could move one tile away from it. I only moved the troops because of a deal with Strider, and I have half a mind to ask him how this happened:
Ok, an update (and some screenshots) Gainy, boots, and I have agreed on a peace settlement.. under some certain conditions...
BTW, I'm only doing this because of an alliance with him after you threatened to take his newly gained city, and you kind of forced me to extend our NAP by threatening to attack me instead of Strider. As soon as that happened, I was between you and him diplomatically; honoring one deal would mean breaking the other. I didn't mean to move them for the next few turns; those troops weren't supposed to be at your border at this moment. I have no idea how they got there before they were supposed to; I don't remember moving them. But anyway, I am at least halfway honorable, even if that half is with Strider and not you. ;)
Gainy Nov 22, 2003, 02:28 PM BTW, I'm only doing this because of an alliance with him after you threatened to take his newly gained city
I was already going for the Indians, then Strider took Dehli. Hence, I left my (single)archer OUTSIDE his territory.
Secondly, it wasn't me who declared war on Strider, he was the one who declared war on me -- my understanding for your agreement was that if I attacked either of you, then you would stick together -- well, I didn't.
The purpose of your NAP, as I understand it, would be to control agression. A more effective way of controlling my agression would be to actaully tell me that you've got one of these under the table deals going on, then I would know that if I were to attack either on of you (Note: Which i didn't do), then you both would declare war on me.
I don't see how y'all wanted to have a peaceful game when you two were the ones who were declaring war. Then are demanding money for peace. Something else to add, why did you accept my offer for peace (before I offered) if you knew fine well you were going to break that deal? You could have said...

Gainy... first off... I had told you that I had force's near Delhi ready to attack several turns ago... second... your archer DID NOT show up intill 3 turns AFTER the city was taken. Not only that, but you threatened to take the city from me, then acouple turns later a vetern archer shows up outside my terrority... only natural that I would declare war and tell you to move it... or I will remove it myself.

Bootstoots Nov 23, 2003, 10:30 AM Save sent to Gainy, even though I'm not in the chatroom at the moment.
Strider Nov 23, 2003, 10:33 AM Currently Gainy and I are trying to make a deal, but he seems not to have kept his side..
The deal was going to be Pottery and Contact with Boots... for 195g and Writing, but I got the deal back... and there was no Pottery included with it... so.. I think he's trying to jip me ;).
Gainy Nov 23, 2003, 02:18 PM I'm doing nothing of the sort :mischief:
I'm happy to inform y'all that the war situation is no more, but boots is weary as I have a warrior presently in his territory above a poorly defended city. I am posting this, just so that it is on record, that - that warrior is there purely to save 1 turns movement(going around his territory). I said this to Boots (in #civfanatics), and am posting just so that if I went back on my word, then I would lose all credebilty - which I don't intend on doing :)
Strider Nov 23, 2003, 02:21 PM Gainy, a simple warning from me though... you move any units (settler or otherwise) within 5 tiles from any of my settlers/main cities. I'll remove it.... Nothing is coming near me.
Bootstoots Nov 23, 2003, 02:25 PM That is good, Gainy, but be warned that future movements of troops into my territory may be considered grounds for war.

How am I supposed to know if i'm near your troops/boundaries until I am next to them? :crazyeye:
And I find this funny coming from you both, seeing that you claim that you want a peaceful game...
Bootstoots Nov 23, 2003, 02:45 PM I never claimed that. ;)
Also, you threatened to declare war against me when I had a warrior in your territory, exploring so as to make contact with Strider. :p

We are taking pre-cautions because of your past actions. Your not to be trusted.
Gainy Nov 23, 2003, 02:54 PM We are taking pre-cautions because of your past actions. Your not to be trusted.

We declared war on you BECAUSE you threatened to take one of my cities and moved a unit outside of it.
Also, Gainy these are the terms...
Any unit seen outside of your bordors (in my general direction) is a declaration of war against me. I have settlers trying to settle within the area and I will not trust you to run amuck inside of the area with them. Any exploration in my direction will cease immediantly. This is neither unfair... nor over-demanding.... I will not trust you to explore around while some of my newer cities are week. It's as simple as this... You stay inside of your area... and I'll stay within mine.
Strider Nov 23, 2003, 05:17 PM Gainy your recent movement of units goes against the conditions stated above. As I said I would, I have acted to remove any threat to the carthagian people.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/Declaration.jpg
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/War_begins.jpg
As also stated above.... Your recent movement is a Declaration of War against the carthagian people.
Gainy Nov 24, 2003, 03:00 AM  Here is my perspective...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/WTH.jpg
Besides me not being able to see anything, I thought your rules were that I could stay there for one turn. I wasn't intending to stick the the rules anyway, but when I do, and you attack me, I find it disturbing :crazyeye:
Boots, I urge you not to declare war on me also. I'm not going to be able to take any of Strider's cities, as he has Numidian Mercs. He is the one who declared war on me. You're NAP would be backfiring...

Can you not read? The "rules" was that not unit of your's was to see outside of your boundary's in my general direction. Moving that unit closer to me was a clear violation of the rules.
Bootstoots Nov 24, 2003, 07:02 PM Save to Gainy. I'll remain neutral in this conflict, at least for the time being.
Gainy Nov 25, 2003, 11:23 AM Can you not read?
Do you have an attitude problem... boy? ;)
The "rules" was that not unit of your's was to see outside of your boundary's in my general direction. Moving that unit closer to me was a clear violation of the rules.
The rules you posted were different from what you said/we discussed in the chatroom (which I asked you to copy and paste). You said to me that I could stand next to your archer(s)/border for 1 turn. If I had not moved after that, then you could attack me. I did not read your rules post, as I assumed it was going to be the same. Never once did I agree to me not being able to move units outside of my territory. Boots is right next to me on the east, I have no-where else to go.
You stay inside of your area... and I'll stay within mine.
I was ~the same distance to my capital as yours, plus, it wasn't in your territory - I was equidistant between our two nearest cities.
That was simply an excuse for you to weaken my army, and kill an elite.
Anyhoo, it's only a game :)
Onto Strider
Strider Nov 25, 2003, 03:45 PM You never agreed to the first deal with to begin with... and I DID tell you inside of chat what the new "deal" was and you told me that if I was to serious... to post it on here.... and that is what I did.
Gainy Nov 25, 2003, 04:00 PM Well I stopped listening after a while then ;)
My point is, that you shouldn't give justification for war just because of some rule(s) that you've made up, and that haven't been agreed upon. I wouldn't mind if it was just me against you, but because of your NAP, I got worried. Since Boots is staying neutral though, i'm not too bothered. Case closed :hammer:

I'll make the rules for as long as I've got the muscle to back them up. Also, it doesn't matter if you agreed upon them or not. I told you what I "might" do if you failed to obey. You decided to call my bluff... and you were wrong.
Also, yes... this is a game, but I prefer to make it more "interesting" to whoevers reading this thread ;).
Gainy Nov 25, 2003, 04:07 PM You decided to call my bluff... and you were wrong.
I didn't think I was calling any bluff, because I thought i was allowed to go there (for a turn). If I knew you were going to do that, then I wouldn't have moved there...

I'm not arguing that point, my point is, that I didn't want Boots to be dragged into a war under unreasonable circumstances. You can do whatever you want to :)

Trust me... boots is staying out of it for expansion purpose's only. If he wasn't worried about his own expansion... He'll be attacking you just as I am.
Gainy Nov 25, 2003, 04:25 PM Trust me... boots is staying out of it for expansion purpose's only. If he wasn't worried about his own expansion... He'll be attacking you just as I am.
You're just trying to turn me against him ;), although I know you are completely right. I would do the same in his situation also...
Strider Nov 30, 2003, 06:13 PM Save passed to bootstoots... the game should be moving again now that I'm back home.
Bootstoots Dec 02, 2003, 04:09 PM Passed to Gainy. Just a note to him, I moved a worker and warrior over to the border to build a road. I'm hoping that he connects it on his side so that we can trade resources.
Gainy Dec 03, 2003, 06:25 PM Here's a pic of my territory, and yes, i had been drinking when making it ;)

Boots, i'm happy to trade with you :) I'll build a road to connect us also...
Bootstoots Dec 06, 2003, 06:20 PM Alright, well, I just started my attack on Gainy (the treaty expired a turn or two ago). My troops have advanced and have sacked his easternmost city (killing a warrior inside) and also killed his spearman guarding his worker building the road, carting away the worker, and are currently advancing toward other cities. This was a total sneak attack, using the road that I connected for "trade purposes". ;)
Gainy, I hope you don't permanently lose all trust of me because of this dastardly deed, even if you (understandably) don't trust me during this game. ;)
Strider Dec 06, 2003, 06:26 PM Ok, good... alls going as planned. ;)
Gainy Dec 07, 2003, 09:30 AM Gainy, I hope you don't permanently lose all trust of me because of this dastardly deed, even if you (understandably) don't trust me during this game. ;)
Oh well
I just said that to try and get sympathy, obviously didn't work
I'm going to fight till the end! :)
edit: Save's onto Strider btw
Strider Dec 07, 2003, 10:16 AM Save is back to bootstoots.
We were planning on attacking at once, but boots didn't have the force's... so I declared war and held alot of mine back (I was waiting to get iron connected)
Bootstoots Dec 13, 2003, 06:48 PM Alright, a horseman that I sent rampaging through Gainy's territory contacted Strider on the other side. Additionally, the rest of my attack force against Gainy has now been destroyed, but that's not the end of me.
Gainy Jan 28, 2004, 04:04 PM ...is this game dead then? :(
I'd like to continue playing it if y'all are still interested... Have you got yer PTW CD back yet boots?
Strider Jan 28, 2004, 04:07 PM Sure, who got the save last?
Gainy Jan 28, 2004, 04:22 PM Boots, but his friend had his PTW cd so he couldn't play...
Goober Jan 29, 2004, 10:53 PM Ya, what happened? This seemed like a good game, definitely a LOT of rivarly here. I just finished an MP game with a friends where I had like 3 4-turn settler factories going, I was on fire!!! Nonetheless, I won that game!!
