hi,

i want to have new techs in my mod, it look easy to create the tech, the problem is :

how do i do to place the frame of my new tech in the tree tech?

at the moment, when i open the tree tech, my new tech is on the top of the window, i can select it, but the look is not very good! :crazyeye:

You have to put in numbers for X & Y in the Advances where you added the tech. You can play with the numbers till you get the tech where you want it.

I have a similiar question. How do you draw arrows from one tech to the other? I know it has to be simple.

thx for the quick reply! i just wanted to ask the same question as you, how can i do for the arrows? i am looking in the mods i have where the tree techs are modified.
The first who find a solution, tell it to the other, ok?

Open the Art\Advisors\science_ancient.pcx (and also science_industrial.pcx, science_middle.pcx and science_modern.pcx). Now just put the arrows wherever you want.

i just realise too that i have to know all the coordinates of the tree tech ! (to put your tech, you have to move the others)
It seems to be not so easy, in fact!
i like this kind of little challenge, relly, the authors of civ3 are really brillant! we can change nearly everything we want!

an other question!
is there a number limit of new techs?

Not one you'll reach to my limited knowledge. The DyP scenario has so many techs, they barely had room for the arrows.

as STRACZYNSKI said,
"Open the Art\Advisors\science_ancient.pcx (and also science_industrial.pcx, science_middle.pcx and science_modern.pcx)."
after that, you put the arrows where you want, and that true, i forgot DYP where there is so many techs, i think i dont want so much

This is a newb question I geuss, but do I actually have to draw the arrows with a paint program?

If so how do I get rid of the old arrows without erasing the background? I want to make a new tree.

try checking the Tutorials (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21058) forum. There is usually an answer to those kinds of basic modding questions there.

Thank you Kal-el. That helps a lot. This is tougher than I thought. Oh well, it will get easier once I figure out what your talking about. Time to try out your guide.

That blank tech screen is great. Thank you. That will help a lot. I think I can figure this out.

I love modding. I have modded other games, but I never learned anything about graphics. This is my first real in depth mod. Other games I let someone else do the graphics where I just adjusted numbers. This is a challenge and I'm going to have a lot of fun working on it. I've always wanted to do a fantasy mod.

i'm working at my mod and i just realise that there is something not very clear for me, in civ3 there is 4 eras, ok.
in wich time each eras are supposed to finnish? in the timeline i mean.

You can end the era when ever you want. Try to use your judgement, like for example you are making an industrial age mod. You start out with the Industrial Revolution, than you go to World War One/Roaring Twenties, the Depresion, World War Two/Fifties.

Also, stgelven, you do know that you can combine your posts with the "edit" option, right?

i agree your answer, but it wasn't exactly the one i attempt, maybe my english is not good enought to explain what i meen, sorry!, anyway, a friend find me a solution to my problem, so everybody is happy! :D
i did not know for the "edit" option, thank you!

happy birthday! :o ;)
