There are 40 splashes and a background with Civ traits. You will have to place them into their appropriate folders.

Internet goes into C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\CIV3PTW\Art\Wonder Splash

Zeus, Artemis, Mausoleum and Knight Templar go into C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Art\Wonder Splash

And the rest of the files go into C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Wonder Splash

Please note that Firaxis used the same splash for the Forbidden Palace and the Secret Police HQ, you may want to continue using the original (Forbidden Palace) because the additional info would not apply to the Secret Police HQ.

OR you can make the changes listed on this post http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1417547#post1417547 and use a separate SecretPoliceHQ splash.

Don't forget to copy your original files to a backup folder before overwriting them.

Edit Dec 20, 2003: I noticed that some of the pictures were a little too dark so I have brightened them some and put them all on a new zip.

This Zip file (approx. 2 meg) is the complete collection:

download (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/Pounder_Wonder_Splashes1.zip)

Edit: The Wonder Background has some misinformation for some of the CIV traits in the side window.

I have corrected it.

Here is the corrected background.

corrected wonder background (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/wonderBackground.pcx)

I tried to strategically place the text so it won't block the picture if possible, so text may be top or bottom depending on picture.

I show culture per turn, show whether the wonder can become tourist attraction (TA) and highlight the Civ characteristics that may trigger a golden age.

Could someone do me a favour and please post the Internet wondersplash . I do not have a clean copy, I have one that is already modded. I must have missed backing up the original.

It would be in this folder.

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\CIV3PTW\Art\Wonder Splash

Okay so I've only been a 'lurker' up to now but...

Wouldn't it be better if you waited until all of your Wonder Splashes are finished and you then placed them in one or two .zip files (or whatever space limits this forum allows for) instead of realeasing them one at a time? Much easier to download that way plus you could spend more time working towards finishing them instead of posting and attaching each one individually. Just a suggestion.

Yes, right, now it is harder to download but I think that he will probably put them in one folder when he finishes them all. ;)

If you go back to the first post, I have posted a download that has all the splashes and the splash background file.

I have finished all the Conquests Wonder Splashes for the epic game with the exception of the Secret Police Headquarters, I have not yet seen it yet, I know it acts as a second Forbidden City with no characteristics and no Culture produced, but I'm not sure which picture they use (if they use the Forbidden City pic for both then that will be a problem because the two different).

The only picture left in the Conquests splash folder is the War Council picture, is that what they are using, has any body built Secret Police in a game yet.

The Forbidden Place and the Secret Police HQ, have different graphics. ;)

Pounder
Dec 06, 2003, 07:37 AM
I can't seem to find in the editor where a wonder points to designate a splash. The only picture unused in the conquests splash folder is the War Council, that picture is a tent with shields and spears around it. Maybe it points to a splash in one of the Conquests Scenario folders, but like I said I haven't built the Secret Police in any of my games yet so I haven't seen the actual splash displayed.

If someone knows where in the editor a wonder points to it's splash, that would be great.

Hmm, this is confusing.

Look, why don't you create a quick scenario and build the Secret Police HQ and maybe figure it out? ;)

Pounder
Dec 06, 2003, 04:15 PM
I confirmed that Firaxis points to the same splash for the Forbidden Palace and the Secret Police HQ, you may want to continue using the original (Forbidden Palace) because the additional info would not apply to the Secret Police HQ (the +2 Culture and the Religious trait). I took Civrules suggestion and used the editor to trigger both Forbidden Palace and Secret Police at the very being of the game.

I am thinking that I may try to come up with one that could apply to both.

Pounder
Dec 06, 2003, 04:30 PM
I know it doesn't follow the format of all the others but under the circumstances it applies to both the Forbidden Palace and the Secret Police HQ.

Pounder

I would still like to how they point to the splash when a wonder is complete.

Is it hardcoded or is there a way to change it. There doesn't seem to be an *.ini file and I can't find anything in the editor.

You are right. I will make separate splashes.

Pounder

1)For Forbidden Palace use the one the I included in the zip file.

2)For the Secret Police HQ, you can use the SecretPoliceHQ file attached here if you make the following changes:

Go to the Pedialcons file below and make a copy of this file for backup:
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Text\Pedialcons

Find this entry:
#WON_SPLASH_BLDG_Secret_Police_HQ
art\wonder splash\forbidden city.pcx

And change it to:
#WON_SPLASH_BLDG_Secret_Police_HQ
art\wonder splash\SecretPoliceHQ.pcx

Place the attached SecretPoliceHQ file in this folder:
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Wonder Splash

Seems that there are a few people that like the previous mods for these splashes (so did I). I am new at modding and this was my first attempt.

I still like the fact that less of the picture is covered in my first mod.

I put together a sample of an alternative for the splashes, but before I start working on these, I want to get a little bit of feedback and acceptance/suggestions.

Civrules
Dec 20, 2003, 07:26 AM
It's pretty good...I like both. The part that I like about the second version is that the words are always visible no matter what the background.

Pounder
Dec 20, 2003, 07:34 AM
I am wondering whether to type tourist attraction in the message like in the sample or use a TA button as I previuosly used.

Using a button would leave more room for message.

Civrules
Dec 20, 2003, 07:51 AM
Hmm, I donno but what if you put the culture on the left side (as you have above) and the "TA" on the right side?
I donno, it's just what I think...

Pounder
Dec 20, 2003, 08:41 AM
Actually, I decided to go with a cleaner format that is closer to Il Mafioso's (this is as close as I can get to copying Il Mafioso's as I can get). I re-did the buttons.

Il Mafioso, I hope you don't mind if I try to re-do the splashes with format that is very similar to yours. I actually started from scratch and tried to reproduce the format.

So we have the culture on the left, T for tourist attraction on the right and traits at the bottom. Leaves room for 3 lines of messages.

I there any thing else that would be of use ?

Pounder
Dec 20, 2003, 09:21 AM
This was one last option I was looking at.

This is an in game test of the first splash shown on the background I modified.

I won't post again until I get some feedback.

Here is an alternative Secret Police HQ for Conquests.

Again because Firaxis used the same wonder splash for both the Forbidden Palace and Secret Police HQ, I have been searching for a separate splash.

Unexisted was kind enough to make one for us. I have attached the additional info to it.

1)For Forbidden Palace use the one the I included in the zip file.

2)For the Secret Police HQ, you can use the SecretPoliceHQ file attached here if you make the following changes:

Go to the Pedialcons file below and make a copy of this file for backup:
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Text\Pedialcons

Find this entry:
#WON_SPLASH_BLDG_Secret_Police_HQ
art\wonder splash\forbidden city.pcx

And change it to:
#WON_SPLASH_BLDG_Secret_Police_HQ
art\wonder splash\SecretPoliceHQ.pcx

Place the attached SecretPoliceHQ file in this folder:
C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Wonder Splash

I figured out a way to add the information to the wonder splash without covering the picture.

I think that this would be my preferred way of doing the splashes.

I hope I can get some feedback/suggestions before I carry on.

I put the trait that could trigger a golden age down the right side, as well as the additional culture generated and whether the wonder can become a tourist attraction.

At the bottom I put the technology that will obsolete this wonder and left 2 lines for wonder affects.

IMHO the one that is most similar to Mafioso's original (post #48 in this thread) looks the best. Of course that could just be the fact that I am most familar with that layout having used it since it was first created. (I am currently using your latest updated version for Conquests which looks great as well.) The only other suggestion I would make is that you double check if 'Obsoleted' is actually a word. I've checked my dictionary and could not find it, but I could be in error. The correct usage might be 'Made obsolete by'. Once again that's just nitpicking really. I'll be more then satisfied with whatever decisions you make.

The Wonder Background has some misinformation for some of the CIV traits in the side window.

I have corrected it.
