View Full Version : DG4 Game Options: Landmass Type
Donovan Zoi Dec 04, 2003, 10:06 PM This is the Game Options discussion for Landmass Type
What kind of landmass do we want for DG4 -- Archipelago, Continents, Pangaea or Random?
This discussion will run for 5 days, after which I will post a poll.
Cyc Dec 04, 2003, 11:38 PM I always play in Pangaea, although there are some citizens who don't agree with that choice. I prefer expansion and attacking by land.
Ankka Dec 05, 2003, 06:56 AM I think coninents or random sound cool.
Falcon02 Dec 05, 2003, 10:16 AM Random
Rik Meleet Dec 05, 2003, 11:59 AM Continents or Random.
Cheetah Dec 05, 2003, 02:23 PM Hm. Think I would go with random.
Even though Pangea is easy to expand on, I think we would experience a richer game if we got archipelago. Continents again would be something in between.
So random sounds good. :)
Bootstoots Dec 05, 2003, 02:47 PM I am partial to Contents myself, but I wouldn't mind if we went random.
Bacon King Dec 05, 2003, 04:58 PM Random would be the good.
Donovan Zoi Dec 05, 2003, 05:03 PM I always thought Archipelago would be interesting, but only if the AIs naval skill increases with the necessity to travel by sea.
If that is not the case, then I would go with my old standby Continents.
Plexus Dec 05, 2003, 05:09 PM Archipelagio would be fun to try.

If that is not the case, then I would go with my old standby Continents. Archipelago would be very nice as we then are limited in expansion and need to cooperate. But the AI is so lousy in archipelago (especially landings) that it would be too easy.

That's pretty much what I thought, Rik. :( Well, Continents it is then for me, as I am not a big fan of Pangaea.
TerminalMan90 Dec 05, 2003, 05:41 PM I always wanted to see a good naval battle, but if you say the AI sucks at it, I guess I would like continents. Random would have it's spice in the early game, but once the world is known, we wouldn't want to risk the archipelago.
Charon Dec 05, 2003, 07:09 PM I say Continents- conquest mostly takes place in the earlier ages and we would be facing the AI on land, but lets not take the ocean completly out of the game shall we?
Plus there's the "old world meets the new world" encounter midgame- I always love seeing how the new civs fit in and change the old world balance.
Grandmaster Dec 05, 2003, 07:10 PM Either large continents (IE: most land and smallest water %) or random.
conehead234 Dec 05, 2003, 07:34 PM Continents or Pangea
DaveShack Dec 06, 2003, 09:24 AM I'm leaning towards continents.
And a point of order, we got into trouble begininning of DG3 because IIRC the people wanted random landmass and a set water % -- the random setting covers both attributes, so we'd better not choose it for either one unless we choose it for both. :p
Cyc Dec 06, 2003, 10:40 AM As I stated in the water coverage thread, the more land mass we have, the more citizen participation we have. Why limit ourselves by potentially setting up an Archipelago map? Random is not the way to go here.
Inter4 Dec 06, 2003, 12:37 PM Archipelago with low water coverage or Random. :)
CivGeneral Dec 06, 2003, 01:55 PM Random for me
D'yer Mak'er Dec 06, 2003, 05:14 PM mabye large islands (low coverage, arcipelago) would be most easily managed = natural provinces?
Noldodan Dec 07, 2003, 03:27 AM Continents or Pangaea, though I like Continents more. We might actually USE Navy then!
Furiey Dec 07, 2003, 07:33 PM I used to play random – having to work out whether I have neighbours or not, and then finding I’m on my own on a tiny island, that needs suicide galleys to get off, and which has no luxuries, water or resources! So as random, randomises both the land mass and water coverage, I don’t think it’s a good idea where we want lots of cities to get lots of people to participate. Continents would give us a good land mass, but still leave use for a navy. We can then tune the water coverage to give us larger or smaller continents.
Eklektikos Dec 08, 2003, 10:36 AM Random. Knowing about the likely nature of one's envronment removes much of the fun of the early game in my opinion.
Sarevok Dec 10, 2003, 12:46 AM Continents
Donovan Zoi Dec 10, 2003, 06:32 PM Poll has been posted. Please vote here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71568).
Strengefuhrer Dec 13, 2003, 02:22 PM Continents.
Most realistic and provides lots of variety in tactics (groud army and navy are important).
