What version of Civ3 do we want to use?

This discussion will run for 5 days, after which I will post a poll.

I beleve that this Demogame should be played on Vanilla Civ3. We should not exclude the other OS users like the Mac users :).

Again, I agree with CG. Civ3 Vanilla is the way to go.

Well, since you're asking again, I'll stick with Play the World.

I had thought about letting this discussion go, but figured I would go through the motions for the sake of our new forum.

Vanilla Civ all the way, as it will allow us the greatest opportunity for participation.

I object to the continued use of Vanilla. It is so... vanilla.

I'll support PTW, renaming units could really serve the DG well, for one.

We can do vanilla.

i agree with Charon. make it PTW

I would prefer C3C, but the patch timing does not look good. One thing I think would be nice to have from PTW (& C3C) is the ability to name units. This would make managing the game much easier.

Inter, I played most of last DG with PTW. It's fine as long as you don't plan on DPing. 'Nilla Civ gets my vote.

I say PTW too, but don't want to alienate other users.

so, I'd propose that when the poll is placed a 75% or greater Majority would be required to do PTW or C3C.

I also support using PTW so we can use the renaming feature.

According to something I read, C3C users would also be able to be the DP on PTW games because it is backwards compatible.

DPing?

Being a DP is being the Designated Player. This is the President by default. DP = the one who plays the game during turn chats.

Would it be helpful to poll who has what versions? For example, what if 90% of us have PTW?

I usually use PTW (haven’t got Conquests yet) and loaded the save throughout DG3 using that. The only problem I had was with the save zip file being empty rather than compatibility with PTW. The renaming feature would be useful, but I do not believe it is worth excluding players who do not have PTW for. Therefore, although I personally prefer PTW, I would go with Vanilla to include the most players possible.

A poll of who uses what might be useful – it would be annoying to go Vanilla only to find out later that everyone has PTW, but Fier Canadien has already said Vanilla or he’s going, so how many are we prepared to lose because of this?

I'm not sure if that's really the case. I certainly found that my PtW using PBEM opponents couldn't play a turn that I'd tried playing in C3C after reading probably the same piece of information that you're referring to.

My vote goes to Vanilla simply for the sake of being as inclusive as possible, despite the fact that I agree that some of PtW's features would be nice for us to use.
