CG,

Thanks for getting the threads created - completely had forgetten about 'em! However, please review the nomination threads to ensure both the correct offices and titles are used.

Also, could you also participate in the Election process thread? If you are the Election Office, your input would be appreciated.

At the risk of offending some, I must report that the first official acts of the Election Office have been bungled.

There should only be four positions in the Executive Council (Internal Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Military and Trade & Technology). Your nominations threads are inconsistent with this structure and are essentially illegal.

With respect to your efforts CG, and trust me, they are appreciated, there are problems with the nomination threads.

First, as per the ratified Constitutional Article D (Executive Branch), there should be threads for the following offices:
President (got this one!)
Minister of Internal Affairs (labeled Domestic)
Minister of Defense (labeled Military)
Minister of Foreign Affairs (labeled Foreign Affairs)
Minister of Trade and Technology (split into two offices)

Second, as per the ratified Constitutional Article F (Judicial Branch), we have a Chief Justice and 2 Associate Justices. We no longer have a Judge Advocate and a Public Defender. The election process for the Judicial is currently vague, and unknown. Three proposals currently exist - one election, top three are elected. One election for each office. Once election for CJ, one election of AJ's, top 2 are elected.

CG, many of us completely forgot about the nominations. There are a great many changes that have happened, we just need to make sure we correct any mistakes that are found, and keep going.

Please let me know if you need any help.

40J,

I would note that they have gone through the threads posting corrections, and have posted in Needed Things (hmmm, Steven King fan must have created that!) to change threads as needed.

Eventually they did the right thing and corrected the problem. It just took some prodding.

Then I stand corrected. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I wish that had been posted earlier, so I could have avoided sticking my foot in my mouth. ;)

Kudos to all those involved with the quick resolution to this issue.

Are we having 2 seperate elections for the Associate Justices positions or 1 election in which the 2 top vote getters win positions?

I'd like to suggest a nomination tracker be opened. I would do so myself but others did such a good job last game that it would seem best to give them a chance to continue this valuable service. :D

As you are probably aware, there is a Judicial Review being conducting concerning the recent election. The input of the Election Office would be a valuable addition to the debate.

Thanks,

RE: Election Schedule

Please update the initial post in this thread with the upcoming election dates. We are getting close to that time again.

Also, I would suggest reviewing with the moderators the process to be followed for this election cycle. The last cycle provided enough entertainment for the game!

Thanks!

For CG's reference when the nomination threads open, these are the positions open for election:

President
Minister of Internal Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Minister of Defense
Minister of Trade and Technology
Governor of Berry Province
At-Large Governor (top two elected)
Judiciary (one combined poll for all judicial positions, with the first place candidate becoming CJ and the second and third place candidates becoming AJ's)

Also, the following schedule should be used, in accordance with our laws:

25 January, 0:00 GMT (the 24th at 7:00 PM EST) - Nominations open
28 January, 0:00 GMT (the 27th at 7:00 PM EST) - Elections open, nominations close
31 January, 0:00 GMT (the 30th at 7:00 PM EST) - Elections close
1 February, 0:00 GMT (the 31st at 7:00 PM EST) - Term 2 begins (please note the one-day period between the close of elections and the start of the new term)

If anybody has any corrections to make, feel free to post them. I'll be doing a check of this schedule to see if it conforms to our rules.

Re: Current Election

First, well done on the nomination threads. After the confusion, having a stable ruleset for you to base your decisions on must be a relief!

Second, please be sure to create a nomination tracker, and ensure that the acceptances by citizens follow the election law. This is a new concept to our laws, your effort in assisting citizens to follow the law will be most helpful.

My thanks!

Shouldn't there be a few debate threads opened? The CoL says that the nomination threads and the debate threads should be opened one week before the end of the month.

The Code of Standards says that debates will take place in the nomination threads.

Please start the nominations tracker at your earliest convenience. Also I draw your attention to CoS J.1.d which states a citizen may accept only 3 nominations which must all be in different branches of the government. I suspect that several people are unaware of this and have accepted nominations for multiple positions in the same branch.

Donovan Zoi
Jan 25, 2004, 05:10 PM
I know that Chieftess has accepted three Executives, and I am sure there are others. A nomination tracker would certainly help matters here.

Also, I would post in each thread when the nom tracker is up and make sure that it includes the pertinent laws. I certainly don't want another election debacle.

Perhaps we should consider putting the election law in the first post of each nom thread until this is common knowledge?

Yes please – I echo Ravensfire’s and now DaveShack's request for both help with the law and a nominations tracker. Much to my amazement I have been nominated for several posts. I realise that I can’t accept all the nominations, but believe I can accept nomination for At-Large Governor and one of the Exec Positions as they're in different branches of government. Several other first timers have also been nominated in this round of elections so I’m sure we would all appreciate your assistance.

As I still have not seen this come to fruition and it has been almost 2 days since nominations began, I would like to remind the Election office again of this requirement in the Code of Standards:

J.1.e
The Election Office shall create a Nomination Tracking
thread in the Citizen sub-forum summarizing all
nominations and their status.

zorven
Jan 27, 2004, 11:24 AM
I would also like to add that this section has not been followed:

J. Elections (CoS section)

1. Nominations
a. The Election Office shall create one Nomination thread
for each possible Election poll. These threads shall
be in the Citizen sub-forum.

CivGeneral

@Zorven - The Election office has followed through with the standards and posted nomination threads already. Though that CoS is in conflict with another set of rules in the CoS.

Please remember to use a multi-choice poll for the judiciary, as specified in this ratified amendment to the CoS. amendment poll (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78528)

I second the request for an actively maintained nomination tracker. :hammer:

I am posting this as a conserned citizen since I was told that op elections for #turnchat usualy happens just after the normal elections.
