View Full Version : Game Options Poll: Software Version
Donovan Zoi Dec 10, 2003, 06:01 PM This is the Game Options Poll for Software Version. Please select which version of Civ3 you would like the DemoGame to be played under.
In the interest of inclusion, any version other than Civ3 Vanilla must reach a 60% majority in order to be victorious.
The choices are:
Vanilla Civ3
PTW
Conquests

This poll will run for 96 hours.
Donovan Zoi Dec 10, 2003, 06:03 PM I have chosen Vanilla Civ3, as it will allow more people to participate.
Bootstoots Dec 10, 2003, 06:06 PM I did as well, just like the last time we polled this.
ybbor Dec 10, 2003, 07:11 PM i believe what is more relevant is what operating system most of us are using, by 1-3-03, most everyone will have conquests thanx to christmas, and most people curently have PTW... so i'm going w/ PTW
FortyJ Dec 10, 2003, 07:39 PM I object to the format of this poll in that it virtually makes it impossible to use anything other than vanilla.
The format may well result in a large majority of people preferring to use any version of civ other than vanilla, but because neither PTW or C3C reached 60% on their own, we will be forced to use vanilla.
I would rather see us use PTW if >50% of us choose either PTW or C3C and use C3C if >50% of us choose C3C.
I voted for C3C because I believe it will make the game more exciting for more people (and perhaps even attract some new members). However, I'd be nearly as happy to use PTW, so if would put PTW over the top, then please change my vote to that option.
CivGeneral Dec 10, 2003, 07:41 PM I voted for Civ3 Classic (Vannilla)
Stuck_as_a_Mac Dec 10, 2003, 07:41 PM Tradition... Tradition! (Doo do doo doo doo! Tradition!) Vanilla for me, please
donsig Dec 10, 2003, 09:12 PM I second FortyJ's objections.
Cyc Dec 10, 2003, 09:44 PM I voted for the option that won in the first poll for this question.
Go Vanilla.
eyrei Dec 10, 2003, 11:09 PM So, some of you want less people to participate so you can use a few extra units and features? I don't get it...
Bootstoots Dec 11, 2003, 04:19 PM Neither do I. I do not want to see all Mac users excluded from viewing the save and effectively from non-Judicial offices, and I don't want less people to participate, even if it's on the order of 20% of the populace, this is 20% that I don't want to lose. However, the objections raised on the poll format are valid, and I think it would be a better idea to requre a majority of votes for any particular option for that option to be victorious, with a runoff poll between the top two if necessary.
However, perhaps we should remove this poll entirely because a previous poll passed in favor of Vanilla, and there is no point in repolling it with the same options.

So, some of you want less people to participate so you can use a few extra units and features? I don't get it... I'm not looking for less participation. I just don't want to see a majority of people interested in playing a newer version lose out because of an unfair restriction in the poll.
Consider these hypothetical results:
Vanilla - 5 votes (25%)
PTW - 11 votes (55%)
C3C - 4 votes (20%)
According to the restrictions placed in this poll, we would still have to use vanilla with these results even though 75% of the people wanted to use a newer version of the game.
I'm all in favor of increasing our participation in this game, and I fear that everyone that rallies behind the "vanilla = greater participation" mantra may be neglecting the possibility that playing with either PTW or C3C may actually increase participation in the game.
Having said all this, I am disappointed to admit that the point appears moot as vanilla appears to be running away with it.
Donovan Zoi Dec 11, 2003, 04:44 PM Then we will leave it at that. This poll is closed, and we will use Vanilla Civ based on the previous poll. My apologies for my ill-advised attempt to demand a clear majority from the options that would close our doors to so many. How unfair of me.
Donovan Zoi Dec 11, 2003, 04:48 PM I do see your point, Forty, as Vanilla isn't even commanding 60% right now......... :(
