I wanna play a PBEM. Ideally it would be a few humans with the rest being computers, on Monarch or Emperor level. I would also like it if we could play turns rather rapidly on weekends, maybe organizing in the chatroom. :)

Anyone interested?

EDIT: Oh, and I'd need help setting it up OR have someone else set it up, since I am MP-illiterate.

I'll play. :)

OK. We won't pick civs until we get a few people. :)

PTW or C3C?

I'm in to kick your ass :p

I'd prefer c3c but PTW works too.

I will set it up if you want. I know most that you can know about mp :p

I don't prefer C3C, this is a C3C only game. I'm addicted to the changes, and I'm too lazy to change back.

@ WildFire: We'll see, biotch. :p I may not be an MP veteran like you, but I can win on Emperor. :yeah:

Oh, and you can set it up. :)

Finally, I'd like to have like 4 players to start this one.

Well, since Wildfire is wanting to join, I'm here to offer my services as a fireman civ, to help you stamp out Wildfire ;P

I'd like to try the Maya since preferences haven't been announced

My email is mvmcauliffe at cox dot net

I can assure you that I don't quit, and I move my turns very fast. As for world settings, I like anything but archipelago.

Ok, we all love the emails you write about people :mischief:

Anyone who still wants to play this, confirm it by posting and I will make it tomorrow or Saturday.

I'll carry the ball for a bit.

Looks like we have six. What we need from everyone is:

Character name, civ, email addy, time zone

Playboy - Burning Flower, Maya, mvmcauliffe at cox dot net, PST
cgannon64 -?, Dutch, ?, ?
Wildfire - Wildfire, Egypt, wildfire4848 at yahoo dot com, EST
zurichuk - He of little imagination , random, aj at zurichtoengland dot com
kiwiandy - Shambling Shamus, Celts, andy AT laptopz DOT fsnet DOT co DOT uk, GMT

Next we need planetary settings. We can vote, but with five and 3 AI, I propose a medium size world with large continents.

We could do standard worlds, or take some I've pulled from future history.

Earth - default values, 70% water
Risa - warm, normal precip, old, 80% water
Rigel VII - warm, dry, young, 60% water
Argelius - warm, wet, old, 70%water

Here are some more challenging worlds:
Dagobah - hot, wet, young, 80% water
Hoth - cold, wet, old, 60% water
Triskelion - hot, dry old, 60% water
Vulcan - hot, dry, young 70% water
Rura Penthe - cold, dry, young, 80% water

Then come the AIs. Random or chosen? If chosen, then more or less aggressive civs?

We can resolve these questions with a quorum, rather than waiting for everyone.

I'll be Egypt

Gents, I'll go that dude with the tattoos all over his face - the mighty Celts! I had a tough one trying to decide on a name for that dude, considering he looks like he just got back from 12 hours of dodgy raving, but I think 'Shambles Shamus' will suffice. ;)

As for the worlds, I really don't give a monkeys. I like challenging worlds, but then I imagine for multiplayer, those with good start locations will streak ahead of the others? I don't know, I'm fairly new to this PBEM thing. I especially like the look of Rigel VII, Argelius, Dagobah, and Vulcan, but will be happy with anything really except perhaps Earth - I kinda like not knowing what the world map will eventually look like.

The AI's I'm not too bothered with either, I imagine it'll be quicker and fairer just to set them on random though?

Bring it on Fellas! :cooool:

Wel, we have the four players cgannon64 wanted, but he's not among us. Since his email isn't in his profile, we'll wait a bit for him to post.

I wouldn't mind trying Argelius or Vulcan this time. I play Dagobah a lot vs the AI, and it's slow starting but those jungles clear out nicely by the industrial ages.

Lol I'm here.

BTW those worlds you posted are they real or just map stats?

Oh I'll be the Dutch. :D

Playboy

We need your email addy, and your time zone. I'd like to set this up running from east to west.

Real worlds? Of course they are if you believe either the Star Trek, Star Wars or Dune Mythii.

I've found that its easier to discuss world concepts with people by naming them rather than just slinging numbers, and I try to pick names from a scifi world I've read of or seen on the screen which is indicative of a particular set of stats.

Well, we have five. As soon as cgannon64 supplies us with an email and time zone we can get started :)

kiwiandy

Still no cgannon64? I get the feeling this will be a long PBEM! ;)

I have a few quick questions:
We have 5 humans on a standard world, how many AI's will we have?
What world - Argelius or Vulcan? I like the look of the more challenging Vulcan, but in that case should we choose Monarch rather than Emperor?
What is our backup plan should someone pull out?
I assume no communications with other players until contact on the map has been established, then anything goes?
When deciding on the order to play, rather than going from east to west, would it be better if we all posted the times we can play (in GMT), and decide on an order from those? (just a thought)
Looking forward to getting this show on the road! :D

I hear ya, Andy.

1. Might as well have three unless others propose a different number.

2. Vulcan on monarch is fine by me, as it is a challenging example of Minshara class planets.

3. Advertise for a replacement? Actually, I have several other people from other PBEMs who would likely be willing to step in of necessary.

4. Sounds like the standard in most games I've seen.

5. The reason I've suggested east to west is to keep the game moving around the planet with the sun. I've found that inevitably, a carefully crafted turn order based on schedules gets horribly out of whack after a month or two. Therefore, why bother? An actual advantage of the E-W turn order is that you can look for a replacement geographically to fill in whatever spot is open.

Please understand though, that I am not dictating any terms here. Someone has to take the lead to get this game started, though, which is why I'm making these suggestions.

:goodjob: Brilliant, thanks Playboy, happy with everything there. Can understand your reasoning with the E-W turn order. Looking forward to getting started!

Well folks, it seems that cgannon64 is no longer about. :(

Might I suggest we start the game anyway, substituting him for another AI? If he does eventually show up then perhaps we could get a second game going then.

Yes? No?

Playboy

I'm fine with starting a game now.

Playboy

Game's been started and first turn sent to Kiwiandy.

Best of luck to all!

Since there are five of us, I'll give everyone the opportunity to vote on their start position. The majority may decide whether to restart or keep the current game. If no preference is stated here, then we will take that as a vote to continue this startup.

:goodjob: Luck to all, live long and prosper!

My start position isn't good, but not hideous, so am prepared to live with it.
