View Full Version : Is this the way Settlers Work?

I created a Wagon Settler, and when I join city, sometimes the unit disappears, and the city doesn't increase in population.
I have given the unit the ability to terraform as well as settle, could that be why. Perhaps something else is going on that I can't figure out. Any insight would be appreciated.

When I try with a regular settler, it works fine.

Should work. I mean, Workers can join cities.

You sure the city didn't already reach its maximum population?

And, are you sure you set a value to the "costs x population points" line?

Does the Wagon Settler require a population point to be built?

I had the Wagon Settler set with Population Cost of "1". I thought that meant each time a Wagon Settler is built, the city producing it loses 1 population point. However, that should not have any effect on this unit joining a city??

I can think of a few possible reasons why the settler won't join a city:

- 1 Custom Units cannot have both Teraform and Settle checked in the AI Actions. However, that doesn't make sense, because I can built a city, and the join button is active, but just doesn't add any population points once used.

- 2 There is something going on in the city which prevents it. I created a scenario with 25 settlers and upon the first turn create a bunch of cities. When these cities start off, they are usually almost completely red in the production of shields. Perhaps, the city can't support a new settler.

If a settler unit joins a city does it still require support?

Ugghhh!!

In theory, it should also be the # of population joining to city.

Nope, the unit doesn't exist anymore.

Yes, they can. I've just tried it.

There have been times I've turned Worker pop requirement down to zero. When I build them back into a city, they just dissapear (they add the zero pop it cost to make them back into the city ;) ).

That's it Louis XXIV. I had the pop requirement down to zero, so it added zero to the city pop. So if you build them you lose the amount in the pop requirement, and if you join you gain the amount in the pop requirement.

These boards are so helpful.

I thought you said you had the population requirement set at 1?

I ran into the same problem. You have to make sure to include a Population Cost on the Unit page in the editor. The Settler will only increase the population if it cost citizens to begin with.
