Well, a translation of CIV Fanatic to French is Fanatique de CIV.

How about Fanatiqua?

Les Civerables! Our leader can be Obsessed Val John. Or, we can steal from litereature. We could have Jacques One of the Jacques. Victor Hugo of the Lavernes? Any other bad ideas?

Why go with modern France? Let's think along the lines of Ancient France/Gaul/Frankish Kingdoms!

Name:Fanaticaul
Noun: Fanaticauls
Adjective: Fanaticauloise

Name: Fanaticallia
Noun: Fanaticelts (last syll. pronounced 'kelts' not 'selts')
Adj: Fanaticallic

Name: Fanatickish Kingdom/Empire
Noun: Fanaticks (add Merolvingian or Carolingian before noun if desried)
Adj: Fanatickish

Name: Holy Fanatican Empire
Noun: Holy Fanaticans (throwback ;) )
Adj: Fanatickish OR Holy Fanatican

Name: Fanatis (pronounced FanatEE)
Noun: Fanatisians
Adj: Fanatisian

And before anyone decides to remind me that the Franks (a la the Frankish Kingdom and the Holy Roman Empire) were Germans, let me say that it was France, not Germany, that ultimately kept the Frankish name. ;)

Name: Les Civerables
Noun: LesCiv
Leader Name: Obsessed Val John
Adj: LesCiverables
Title: Prisoner 24601 (maybe?)

"Paris is not growing, Prisoner 24601"

Cyc
Dec 18, 2003, 03:29 PM
That would be...

"Paris is not growing, Prisoner 24601 Obsessed Val John"

Pardon me, but I think that is from literature. ;)

We should call ourselves the Freneticans, named after the blistering pace with which we have written our ruleset for this game. :D

Sure, then we can rename ourselves later when we wish that we would have taken more time writting the ruleset!

I think the name should be rather simple and easy to remember. Also, hopefully something that people can pronounce. No suggestions here though.

I tend to think of Les Mis as a very long but very good musical, not the literary masterpiece by Victor Hugo Laverne

Welcome back, 40J. ;)

Actually, I like the name Frenetica. It fits all the way around. French Fanatics frenetically forging our future.

Les Mis is one of the best musicals ever written, but it is still based on literature. It's splitting hairs, but I was just having some fun at your comment saying we could base our name on that musical or steal from literature. ;)

And I don't care for spending any more time writing rules for this game. I really don't care what rules we play by at all. I just want to play the game.

Playing the game = Fun ... Writing the rules = Mind-numbing Torture :D

well it cant really be that it has to be something relating to the civ. or we could call it the BClgians, i like that name has a good ring to it.

or we could ourselves the Frencians with the 'ci' sounding like 'se'

"I just discovered that pari in Latin translates to equal in English. Could we work the democratic/equality angle into the name?

Such as Parisians? Parisans? "

I agree with Cyc! ;) Let's break away from the Fanatica-style name and explore other possiblities (as we discussed in the other DG's). Pari in Latin translates to "equal" in English. Let's use that as the basis of our name. Equality and Democracy are two ideas that are not that far apart. 1 person, 1 vote. Let's be equal as Parisians!

The Nation of Paris!

We are the Parisians!

Viva Equality!

Parisians sounds a bit too much like real life for me. Combining suggestions already made how about something like:

Les Civerables de Fanatiqua

We are Les Civerables
Our country is La Fanatiqua

We then have to postpone this decision till after the Presidential elections and till the name of the Capitol is selected.

I agree with Cyc in that we should choose a name that isn't nescesarily based on Fanatics.

Though I agree with Furiey that Parisians sound a bit to much like RL.

Nope, sorry Rik Meleet. My statement had nothing to do with our next Capital City. I wouldn't presume to force the President's naming of his city to match my suggestion. We, as a nation would be called the Parisians. Our country would be called Paris. This would allow the Capital City to be named anything the President wanted.

I was just trying to work in the "Equality" angle because the "Pari" fit so well.

As everyone seems to have expended all their interest in this topic, I will run a poll with the 15 names offered. The poll will be a preliminary poll. A second, third, maybe even fourth poll will be run to determine the winner. Hopefully we will find out what our name is before the begining of the game.

Poll has been posted here! (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=72942)
