Welcome to The French Culture Society (FCS). We are a group intent on interjecting as much culture of Real Life France (RLF) into the Demogame as possible. The culture can be from Modern France, Middle Ages France, Gaul Era France, and other periods of History. We support goals such as a French sounding country name, French sounding cities, French related wonders (There are none, but we can sure make'em French) and just a good French time by all. We do not, however, support Francophobic France-Bashing. No "Surrender Monkeys", but we are alowed to be "Pissed Off Wine Drinking Cheese Eaters Who Read Poetry". We can jest at ourselves, but no bashing.

J'embarque!

We shall show what culture means to the others sites of so-called DGers.

Glad to see at least this one made it up. I'll have to find a better pic of the Louve for the top. So Fier, Cyc and CG are in.

First Issue: What should our nation's name be? This issue is already being discussed, but I feel it would be good to have a French say in it.

I just discovered that pari in Latin translates to equal in English. Could we work the democratic/equality angle into the name?

Such as Parisians? Parisans?

We might be the fanatiques. As tradition says, we must keep around "fanatic".

So, I suggest that we call ourselves the "République Fanatique".

True, Fier. Tradition does state we should do something Fanatic, but we did not in DG1. I like Cycs idea. Parisians. Fine with me as long as we have a decent leader name (No Chirac. I dont want a racist as our leader name)

Merci, my Penquin friend. I, too believe we should be original enough to break away from the monotony and repetiveness of the Fanatics name. Do we always have to do the same thing?

People here chose random because they want something unexpected, but they can't get past a Fanatic name for fear of something unique.

As much french culture as possible? I hope that doesn't mean making our labourers go on strike all the time and having revolutions every other turn.

No, it means being stylé. That's realy fun when roleplaying.

Being stylé... Well, pourquoi pas? Actually, if we can get lots of France's proud tradition militaire that would be pretty cool.

Tradition millitaire! Do you refer to their endless pit of defeit?

Cyc

Well now, let's not be too quick to judge here. He may be refering to the long line of French waitresses standing behind red and white checkered table cloths wooing American GI's. ;)

Or possibly about the great literature that came out of there during the wars. That is military tradition as well. Without the French Military, I would be Dada-less!

Mais non!
I mean Napoleon, the colonies and to a lesser extent Charlemagne. Admitedly there's not much else (especially in recent history, which is mostly getting her ass kicked by Germany every 30 years).

Although not a member, I do have an idea that I hope you will support. Actually, two!

What are the French famous for? No, not that! Remeber, under Napoleon the soldiers fought quite bravely!

Wine of course! What else could I be thinking! And, quite correctly, Civ3 has wine in it!

I am therefore planning two law proposals once the game starts.

First, should our starting position not have wine, we must explore around us to locate a supply of wine. Once found, we must found at least a colony there in an expediant manner, meaning that a line of cities may be founded towards it, rather than simply running a settler out there in isolation.

Second, the names of our Provinces should be after the wine-producing regions of France.

May I count upon your support?

You have our full support. However, let it be known that if I am elected governor, I plan on naming the first province "Cabaret"

Cyc

Our little dancing Penguin friend has musicals on his mind. :)

But I agree that this DG we should stay away from blanket themes for our Provinces. One of the perks of being a Governor is naming your Province. Why have your name picked out for you? I've named 3 myself. :D

A bump!
Well, its election time and this Penguin might get his wish of Cabaret. Also, in a noted change, my city is to be named Voltaire. Note the lack of the word Penguin. I encourage all people to come up with french based names. That is all.

Can I join (ma Grandmere est ne en St Malo)?

I propose that Bordeaux should be a name of a province/city being Wine-based, but should only be a province which borders the sea (bord d'eau.)
