I've decided to start a new thread for the C3C version of my mod.
It will include in the first pages general info and screenshots.
Please be patient, it will take a while to upload everything, I'm just reserving post right now.

GI Dustin has made a very nice presentation of the game races, units, ressources, techs...

http://www.civ3files.com/Teasers/Steph/

I've decided to keep all the races, and to add a few. But warnings : some of them will be very similar.

Here are links to the PTW version. I will add C3C specific links as soon as I can. Note that the units zip should remain the same. Only the main files should change, and I will add specific zip for new units.
So if you already have the PTW version of my mod, you won't have to download everything.

Warning : requires Play the World)

Thanks. It's hard for me to check that everyfile is included, without resintalling the whole mod. Doing an incremental version, without including all the files, but only the most recent one, is a bit more error prone.

Looks good, I can't wait until it is done. It would be awesome if you can make all units the size they would be if they were made by Firaxis because having a Dragoon being bigger than the Cavalry unit which came with the game is kind of odd especially when you have units of much similarity being different sizes. It looks horrid.

Another thing is.. why are you making the Americans start off as Native Americans? That is insane! It would be extremely hypocritical that they would represent the peoples who they almost wiped off the face of the Earth in one of the most widespread genocides of all time. Being that I am 100% Cherokee it offends me in some ways that the murderers of my people represent us. Do what Rise of Nations is doing in their expansion pack, making the Americans European-like in all ages.

If i did something about size, I would increase the size of Firaxis units. My dragoon are scaled with infantry. Why should I make the dragoon same size as cavalry, and lose details, when the dragoon is the same size as infantry? For me, it's Firaxis unit which is different

Civilization is seldom a game of peaceful evolution, but a game of war and conquest. I've chosen not to use "civilization", because some of them existed only for a short period of time and have disapeared (like the Aztecs, the Babylonians, etc), or didn't exist initially like the American.

Instead, I'm using "area of the world", with evolution. So Rome will become Italy, Greece will be Byzance then Greece again, Ottomans will become Turkey, Babylon Iraq, Aztecs will become Spanish colonist then Mexican, and Native American will indeed be wiped out and became USA.

So don't think "America" = USA, but "America" = "Native Americans", then USA. If you don't want to see the US, then be very good at the beginning of the world and conquer the wolrd with your native units...

Using Europeans nations to represent America in the early stage of the game is as insane as using Native Americans. Beside, what modern units should I have used for Iroquois?

i will have 1024 Kb/s DSL, downloading a piece of 100-150-200 Mo will aren't longer a problem for me :)

When you will propose a C3C version ?

Steph
Jan 04, 2004, 03:58 PM
I've uploaded the very first version (0.1) that should be conquest compliant.

To install it first install all the files of the PTW version if you heven't already, then move them in the conquest/scenario folder.

Download the c3c version (aow_0_1.zip), unzip it in conquest/scenario

this version doesn't use any new unit or feature, it simply add the correct pathes, and use new civilopedia icons for units.

If you don't have PTW, you need to download additional units, not included with c3c, and put them in c3ptw/extra/world war II folder

Hey Steph, I was just trying to install your MOD here and I ran into a few problems.
First of all, I followed your instructions by downloading and installing the PTW files into the conquest/scenario folder and then I installed the aow files into the same folder.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the MOD in the map editor was that the icons of some of the units were either blank or didn't correspond to the correct unit type. For example the Su 122 unit had the icon of a Nebulan frigate from Star Wars!

Anyway, I tried running the MOD and at about the 61% mark I get this error message: FILE NOT FOUND: "Art\tech chooser\icons\mapmaking-small.pcx"
What did I do wrong?

Ok well I figured out why I was getting that error message. For some reason I forgot to copy the files from the original techchooser folder. I still haven't figured out how to fix the problem with the mismatched or missing icons. I also noticed that the natural resources are missing icons as well. Again it could be because I forgot to copy somethign from one of the folders, but I was looking through all the folders and don't know where the icon file is saved.

Well, the Iroquois would become modernized. Take RoN for instance, they have Aztec modern weapons. I just dislike the fact of my people becoming the people who wiped 95% of us off the face of the Earth and then displacing us into small reservations in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is horrible, it's flat, and dull. The original Cherokee territory, un-flat and beautiful.

I don't mean to be a thorn in your ass, but you don't understand our hate of what the US, English, and Spanish did to us. Don't worry, you're French.. French people were nice to us, especially to the my tribe. :)

Yes, French people are very nice ;).

But if you want a real iroquois or cherokee civ, it's simple. Make me new units! I don't make unit myself, but use existing ones/ So without modern native units, my only choice is to use american ones

I noticed the pcx 32 sheet for this mod is double wide (24 across) and when I go to add a unit to it to fill in a blank it throws some other icons off line for units off in the editor. WHen I use a standard or mega sheet 14 across the counting of the icons doesnt change when I add them in. So I am wondering why I have troubles with a wider sheet over a norrower longer pcx sheet when i comes to adding icons and #ing. Mabye I just have a different version of c3c or something...?

I finally got the icons matched........I had to use a converter to make pcx 32 icons from flc for the units that didnt have any. I have to say this mod is GREAT! The work to get the icons was worth it! Though I think the native american units should be seperate from america. Anyways I look forward to your next mod.:scan: ;)

Could you post your unit 32 icons.

Sleepy Eyes
Mar 11, 2004, 07:23 PM
I would have to post the 32 units icons and the steph mod main file which matches them (btw I had never tinkered with any other settings in the Mod cept for icons). Since I am a rookie on this site I have to figure out how to uplink it here...And where is the right place to post it?

There also seems to be missing two units I can not find the unit folder for the flc to make the Icon.

#ANIMNAME_PRTO_NavalFighterBomberJapanese
_air_Val

#ANIMNAME_PRTO_ModernInfantryFrance
_landInf_Peacekeeper

So I am wonder if I should switch the peacekeeper as the blue cask unit I had downloaded and I am not so sure what to do about the _air_Val unit yet. Any suggestions or am I missing something everyone else has.

As For details on the Icons

The Su35 and the German Musket have a green or tan background. However, I had succesfully found or made proper transperant icons for all the other units. Plus I made a new icon for the axis and allied commando and a couple others to try and help out. Ill post a link tonight and hopefully some of you will find it useful since it took me a few long hours to do.

Just put the .biq or .bix and the icons in a zip. Then at the bottom of the page their is a Upload File click that and get the file. hope that helps:)

btw just post it here.

Edit: I had those errors and posted them in the old thread but steph did not answer, I look Froward to trying the 32 unit icons.

here is my older post: I have found the .ini file but I have not found the folder, there is no folder.

btw the .ini file is in the units folder.

edit: I found out that it is the Tenzan, Naval Fighter Bomber for the Japanese and the folder name is suppose to be _air_Val but there is no folder by that name all there is is a .ini file. There is no animation files either.

Mar 11, 2004, 08:53 PM
This one is to replace the steph scenerio edit file in order to match the icons. No other changes have been made to the setting other than icons.

Yeah, I am glad I could contribute something around here, I wanted to play this mod myself but I had to put a few hours into it first. But I figure the creator worked so hard to put it together its no sense to leave such a nice thing incomplete. I am playing this mod multiplayer now on a network so I am wondering if I could post temp patches (????) since it seems Steph is busy lately...

The civpedia art unit file for catapult needed a minor correction in taking away the underscore to match the pedia text. But so far after that so good. And I replaced the 2 missing units..:crazyeye:

after many hours of experimenting i have gotten the C3C version to a point where it is just stuck looking for ANIMNAME_PRTO_ModernInfantryRussian. my previous post can be disregarded as i have figured out my issue there, but this one i cannot figure. the only entry i could find was for a ModernInfantry. how did those of you who have played this mod get around this?

Aug 04, 2004, 05:23 AM
Well...

Firstly may I say that this is a truly excellent mod and I love it to bits :goodjob:

However, in it's unfinished state it does need extensive changes done. So far I've only played Russia and America, so my comments will for now relate to those :)

The Badger Russian bomber cannot relocate it's base, meaning where they're built is where they stay. This obviously is just changed in the editor.

The Blackhawk problem above

The F5 fighter plane for the Americans can land on carriers, that might be intended I dunno, but since no other jet plane of the era it's in can....

In the modern aviation advance (I forget the name, but the one where the eurofighter and SU37 are in) has a problem with the Eurofighter small picture for the civilopedia. The SU37 naval plane cannot operate at all without modifying the text file in the unit's folder. Currently it has an extra = for each of the instructions, ie it says ==

I'll try another country soon to test theirs if you want :)

Not that I'm having a go at you, I know it's unfinished atm, but I figured it might help maybe?

Oh and I figure I must be dumb or something, because when I use this mod I can never get the different terrain in those screenshots :(

Steph
Aug 04, 2004, 05:34 AM
I'm not sure it will. I don't plan to work again on this mode, as I'm to busy with SSS.

But I may decide to make a "version 2.0", that could be quite different.

First I have not downloaded everything yet, but I read about the races and in the unit list I saw that JAS39 Gripen can carry foot units ? If you like to know, the plane is actually smaller than the replaced J37 Viggen (yes J37 is called viggen, J35 is Draken), so I just wonder where the foot units are to be transported (in a container below). By the way since I also saw that the bombardment is quite high on the J37 viggen, it should be called AJ37 viggen since J37 viggen (or more correctly JA37 viggen) isn't a very good bomber.

Someone should do (not me, I mean an artist) the swedish stealthship (called smyge in swedish), it is a corvette class ship with stealth capability.

Unzipped the different folders in a Steph folder(compare with the existing structure, you should have the same, ie : arts\units, etc, but inside the Steph folder.

So you will have for instance Steph\arts\units.

Normally, everything should be in the correct folder then

It should look like that

Steph

When you unzip, be sure you set the options to keep the subfolders

Also, I don't remember exactly as I have lost my saves, there are "unit packs", and they should be unzipped in the correct subfolder (ie arts/units). I'm not sure how I zipped them

Hi guys

I've been playing Steph's mod since its beta3 PTW era, and have recently formatted my computer and had to re-download the files from this site.

I however found a problem - The units in the .biq didn't match up with the icons in the units32 file. Some were just blank tiles, others where completely off the wall - tanks as foot troops, boats as planes that sort of thing.

So I dug about a few odd cd's I'd backed some stuff up on and for some reason I had two zip files, one of the mod file itself and the other of a units32... Odd but I thought I'd try them and see if they worked. THEY DID! If anyone else is having this problem after downloading the mod again, I've posted the two files on my website just in case.

http://www.ellsweb.com/civ3/units32.zip

Hope that's of use to someone as it saved this fantatic mod for me, but, anyone else ever have this problem?
