Well, the end-result was obvious enough. The Czar was overthrown and Lenin set himself up as new leader of Russia. He was supported by the Germans in an attempt to remove Russia from the Great War, a trick that worked quite well. The Czar was executed and over the next few decades, everyone else who had any influence and wasn't a devout supporter of Lenin and Stalin.

Wow, looking at it this way it's pretty hard to sum it up. There's a ton of other things as well.

Nope, Kerensky's provisional govt came first. Then the Bolsheviks under Lenin launched their coup and seized power, 'cause the Provisional Govt insisted on remaining at war with Germany.

After that, the Soviets were embroiled in a civil war with all kinds of entities incl White forces, and foreigners like the Czech Legion, the Poles etc as well as Allied forces. The Red Army eventually came out on top, under Trotsky's leadership I think. And they made a hard peace with the Germans in '17, the Brest-Livotsk Treaty though it was overturned soon, with Germany's defeat.

IIRC, the war with the Poles only ended in 1922 or so...

The best course is to do some research fr books. ;)

There shld be quite a few in the library, since the rise of the Soviet Union would probably be quite a popular topic.

Well, the West sent in troops to supress the revolution leading to the distrust of Stalin and in theory the cold war.

The Russians were still talking about in the 60s, Azadre.

Edit: The shoe at the UN from the Cuban Missle Crises is what i'm refering to.

If you want me to write a detailed article about it (like the kind of ones that used to be here), I will be glad to do so. Hell, we need more history articles, I will try and write one anyway.

An idea:

This has been kicking around in my head for some time now, to take a historical topic and have several CFCers write an article on the same topic but each from a different perspective. For instance, for the Russian Civil War of 1917-1922 someone could cover the Bolsheviks, the Kerensky government, Germany, Poland, the Russian peasantry, Ukrainians, the Whites, China, the Anglo-American-Japanese intervention forces, the Czech Legion, etc. - all the groups involved in the event. The point wouldn't be so much to support or justify the group you're covering as to describe their perspective on the events, how they acted/reacted, and what their ultimate fate was.

Anyone game?

I am, ;) but for the Chinese, the Russian civil war was a rather distant thing, except with regards to some rather huge territorial things along the borders. And the Chinese then were rather weak, and already under pressure fr Japan.

I would be up for that, it seems like a good idea.
