joespaniel Oct 30, 2001, 11:35 PM TF - This is a valuable link, thanks for posting it. It could help alot of people. :goodjob:
I suggest making it a 'sticky' thread so it stays on top of the forum.:)
Cunobelin Of Hippo Oct 30, 2001, 11:40 PM Consider it done :)
This is where to go when your incompetent mods can't solve your problems

Comments Edited. Look at the funny advice below:
Build a Courthouse as soon as you are able. This structure reduces corruption in whichever city it is built in.
Going to go out and build one in my captial as soon as possible! What good advice! :)
Build Ports when possible. A port gives you extra resources, as well as an extra tile for a unit to stand on.Extra tile to stand on? I am lost here.
They give a total of 7 tips (if they can even be called that). Wowie...
joespaniel Nov 06, 2001, 05:46 PM I was refering to all the troubleshooting advice in the site mentioned above, Pale Horse.
Unfortunately, I cant find anything to help my problem...:(
I have slow-motion, despite having more than the required stats for my computer. The units and screens take too long to move and pop-up.
Its very frustrating. I've tried alot of stuff and cant get it to flow.
damunzy Nov 06, 2001, 08:47 PM Basically you need to get in contact with their email support. Try this Link Removed, you must be refered from their site.
Ok, here is my next suggestion. Go to the link in Thunderfall's post and go to the very bottom of the page. Click email support button.
Look at next post for picture of button.
damunzy Nov 06, 2001, 08:52 PM Here is a picture of the button I am talking about.

I was just commenting also. Unfortunately I forgot to change the original part of my post, the quote from you. I didn't mean to quote you, was just making fun of their site.

Typo Nov 19, 2001, 01:15 PM How long???
Apollo Nov 19, 2001, 11:53 PM I sent an email using this system, and it said they would respond within 48 hours. Well, its been much longer than 48 hours, and still no sign of life from Infogrames. Are others experiencing this problem, or did they not receive my message?

I sent an email with an bugg report to that adress got an answer a couple of days later....
Only problem is that they only replied to say that they wont accept any mails / bugreports / support requests from me since I didnt get the US version of the game??? As far as i know it's the same game only the box that is different....
And they also stated that I should contact the mail adress in the Netherlands (?) or the one in my own country did both and no responce from them either.
Well I have always reported bugs in games that I have bought even if I don't expect them all to be solved I do want them to be "processed".
I have also been Aplpha / Beta testing games...
Guess I wont continue to care about reporting any bugs in Civ 3 then....
And yes I am able to write bugg reports and send email containing english even if my native language is Swedish, to lazy to check for spelling errors on a bullentin board post though ;)
Apollo Dec 05, 2001, 05:01 PM Well they did respond to that email after almost a week, but it was just a scripted response that wasn't at all addressed to the errors I was getting, so I sent another email, and now its been well over a week... I guess I'll just wait until the patch comes, install that, and hope it somehow fixes my problems. If it doesn't, then I'll try emailing firaxis again, wait a week, and if there's no response I'll see if I can return the game.
TAB443556 Dec 25, 2001, 12:35 PM IT sure didnt help my prblem with the patch.
I get a kernel32 error msg after the game makes an illegal operation. I did as the page said and got the latest drivers for my video card ( ASUS 7700 geforce2 GTS ) and my sound card ( soundblaster live ! 1024 ),
But i stil get the same problem. I didnt have this problem before i installed the 1.16f patch.
TheBlackHand Jan 07, 2002, 04:48 PM Answer your ****ing phone! Live support? Bull****. LIE support is more like it. I WASTED forty ****ing five dollars on this game. Then I wasted forty ****ing five minutes on your "support" line trying to find out the goddamn problem. All I needed, all I WANTED was to talk to a real person. The website and phone number says that LIVE SUPPORT is available. **** you. It is NOT available.
The solution to my problem was probably pretty simple. However, since you've lied about LIVE SUPPORT I'll be returning your ****ing game.
BTW, it's CIV III. It worked until I installed the new Nvidia drivers. Perhaps if someone would've just said, "were working on it" I wouldn't be so pissed. Instead, you wasted my ****ing time. **** you once again.
meh138 Jan 09, 2002, 12:58 AM TheBlackhand, and others, I have been battling to find the proper mix of Nvidia drivers (for geforce 256), xp home, and civ III (unpatched and patched). No luck.
If I use XP home default Nvidia drivers, with civ III (patch/unpatch) it seems fine, but I have no opengl or glide, so slowness and some other games (wolfenstein, ghost recon) are not happy. nv4_disp.dll or blue screen of death (feels like an nt4 server running pc anywhere too much...)
If I use newer nvidia drivers (23.11, 21.83, ... 21.41) civ III unpatched kind of works, but PATCHED?? it dies, nv4_disp.dll error. Yes, 21.83 and 21.41 have WHQL certified drivers, but still no joy. Nvidia says 23.11 is XP certified, but Microsoft disagrees.
Nvidia, 3dfx, creative labs, no help. :( Microsoft, no help. :( Infogrames, no help. :( So, this weekend I make the choice - first person shooters, or civ III. Already told Microsoft I'm rolling back to win98se, but actually thinking of Linux if I go FPS. rolleyes:
Love to hear of a fix.:crazyeyes :

I sent an email to them with the attachment of the DXDiag results on Jan 10. Over a week later I still haven't gotten a response. What's taking them soooooo looooooong?

For the game moving in slo-mo try holding the Shift key down when the pieces start to move. When I hold it down the move so fast all I see on my screen is the map change.

Undead Scourge Oct 11, 2002, 12:01 AM When i try to load a scenario it goes perfectly fine until the dialogue box saying what your civilizations is eg; Militaristic and Scientific and the free techs the game crashes without any warnings or error messages, plz help me
Stilgar08 Nov 07, 2002, 03:07 PM I don't know what exactly Infogrames is doing with the emails they get, but they certainly won't answer! I complained about the lack of support for the german Civ III version, but in a polite way (seriously! ;) ). Never got a response, neither for my complaint, nor for the questions I had.
Unfortunately the same is true for Firaxis... I told them about the lousy support from Infogrames Germany ("lousy" is a compliment in this case! :crazyeye: ) and asked them a few things. Never heard of it again... I assume it's enough to just pay the price for the game and then I should shut up...
But I don't want to! Dammit! :aargh:
SonOfShaka Nov 20, 2002, 04:34 AM Hi all , I got introduced to Civ III via a Thai copy (big business here) ; however , I decided that I wanted to get the real thing and finally got someone to buy me the game in Bankok .
Now I see it is a version only for sale in Thailand ...
My question is : will the patches/mods be compatible with this game ? :(
Haven't tried installing it yet , still working on my first regent game on the copy ...;)
Can someone please assure me that I didn't waste my money .

Raven1er Feb 02, 2003, 05:18 PM PLEASE HELP! IVE BEEN CIVLESS!!
my problem is-
whenever i start up civ 3, before the intro movie, the screen flickers or like....sort of restarts one time, and the screen goes black for a little while...then the movie shows and when the movie finishes, the screen restarts/flickers and stays black no matter what you do, so you have to restart.
i use winxp, direct x 8.1, 128 mb ram, 777 mghz intel pentium 3 processesor, 29 gigs in my hard drive left, the sound works fine, 52 speed cd rom drive.
my screen resolution/pixels can go up to 1024 x 768 from 800 x 600, and can go from 32 bit to 16 bit color depth.
Please answer as soon as possible!!!
oh yeah i installed patch 1.29, and it still doesnt work.
jimkirk Oct 17, 2003, 11:20 PM i had the same black screen problem basicly your video card or whatever is not resizing the screen to the proper size automaticly and not using the proper refresh rate ..
civ3 needs (and so does alpha centauri) 1076 x 768 or something like that and u have to make sure u use the proper refresh probably 60 mhz do it manually and ur game will probably work
now at the moment my puter auto resizes the screen size and refresh rate when i play civ 3
rhikdavis Feb 21, 2004, 05:30 PM When i try to load 1.29 on my sony laptop, the cd drive spins up and nothing more. I stay at the desktop with no indication that the game is running.....whats up with that? Its the english version...diaxdiag info to follow....
FinnMcCool Feb 24, 2005, 11:55 PM Raven1er, I think you need DirectX 9 but your post is so old, it makes me wonder if anyone is reading this thread anymore.
My problem (see other thread Animations too slow!) sounds similar, the game loads and starts, but when any unit moves, it suddenly slows way down. Haven't tried the Shift key trick, but it sounds like something I noticed back when my Civ3 actually ran (before the reformat.) Once in a while, I'd load up my game, and all units would move really quick. Zip. I didn't like it. But if I just restored my computer to an earlier System Restore Point, it would work.
Now I've reformatted, installed Civ3, and the units move slow. Won't work. I updated my drivers, installed Windows Updates, units still move slow. I'm downloading the patch now, but I'm not optimistic.
I once ran into a similar problem playing Black & White. It turns out, if you reformat, then install B&W, THEN install the Windows Updates, it glitches up your registry, and you have to go through an entire re-format again, then install updates, THEN install the game.
I tell ya. These games have gotten too complex. No one can agree on a shared format, so games have to be written to cover every base, and there are just too many ways for it to get screwed up. Even the best programmers can't plan on every contingency.
If I have to re-format again, and update windows BEFORE installing Civ3 and the patch, I am gonna be pissed. I'm on 56K modem, and it takes ferfrikkin ever to download 23 MB!
prime900 May 12, 2007, 09:02 PM excuse me are u guys talking about the oraginal civ3 cause i have civ3 complete and I thought 2kgames now owns it

Atari sold the Civ franchise to 2K Games. They still have the support pages over there though, so the link in the first post still works.
Although for later versions such as Civ3 Complete, you should get support from 2K Games.
