View Full Version : New Wonder Background Can Display Larger Splashes

There is nothing stopping you from modifying the background splash to facilitate larger graphics. You could use larger pictures or add the history of the wonder or place multiple pictures, maybe showing multiple viewing angles of the wonder.

Edit Apr 5/04: I am considering starting up work on the larger splashes.

I will need to compile new pictures that are 568x320 rather than the current format of 320x320 because I prefer the format in this post to the format in post #2.

If I can't get a complete portfolio of 568x320, then I am not sure if I should mix the 2 formats or maybe place multiple pictures to fill the 568x320.

I will start my search, if anyone wants to contribute, that would be great.

I have attached a copy of a wondersplash background that I through together as a sample. I did a quick test with it and it can hold a splash 570 pixels wide x 390 pixels high. I will use for the picture portion 568x320 so I will be able to put add the all the addtional info below to the picture. (see post #12)

What's that black stuff in the sky?

Pretty good idea.

The black stuff is Pounder getting a bit careless with his palette ;)
Way to think outside the box :p

The black stuff happened when I converted this screen shot to a jpeg to fit the size restriction for posting on this thread.

That's pretty good. If that's like possible for other stuff as well, we might as well start expanding them.

(i just realized that this sentence is among the most screwed up ones I ever came up with... wow)

Looks pretty good, but could you please center the button on the bottom. It looks loopsided when it all the way to the left side, while a large amount of space is on the right side.

I was just gonna say the same thing.

But oherwise, it looks great! :goodjob:

That button can not be moved as the position is determined by the game, the program specifies the co-ordinates of the button as well as the starting positon of the splash. We just have to work around those two obstacles.

The goal was to get a larger splash.

The shape of the splash for this expanded background can now be the shape of a still camera photo 6x4. This means you could take photos and not have to crop them to fit in this space.

I actually guessed hat the game determined where the buttons must be...

This is a sample of a larger picture, still leaves plenty of room below the picture to add additional info.

So do I. :)

Did you finish these already, or have you just made the background + samples?

Originally I had this idea and thought that I would throw it out here to see if there was any interest. I was hoping that maybe some of the modders would pick up on it and maybe expand on the idea.

I put up a couple of examples, one with history of the wonder off to the side of the pictures, along with the additonal info around the picture. The other was a wider picture with all the additional info below the picture. I'm sure others will have some ideas.

I'm not sure if I am going to do anything with these right now.

If I were to go with the wider pictures, then there would be the task of getting a complete set of new pictures.

The additional wonder history info on the side would be less of a task. I would just use the history info out of the civilopedia.

Maybe I should do a poll to see if there is enough interest and if there is, which format.

Personally, I am happy right now with my regular size New Format.

I wouldn't mind that much if you don't finish the idea (although I think it is cool) because I am also happy with the original size wonder splashes you created. :)

It's a start, not quite sure if they are good enough, ...comments, ...should I bother.

Here are a few of the pictures that I may use, unless I can get better ones of course: Colossus, Statue of Zeus, Temple of Artemis, Hanging Gardens, Lighthouse, Mausoleum and Great Wall.

Again any contribution of pictures would be helpful.

Very, very good.

I won't use them, not right now, there are too many Wonder in my personnal mod whose wouldn't fit.

But I like very much the idea and I would be pleased to see it in any mod.
