I'm remaking this mod completely. In this mod there will only be the Cherokee civilization and it's unique unit rather than the Austrian civ, 3 traits, etc. which will actually be included in my AC3TWM (Austria Cherokee 3 Traits Wonders & More) Mod which will be released by February.

I am also at work with the Sioux civilization mod which will be released simultaneously with this mod. It will only be a short while so hold your horses.

Its pointless to have the Brave ignore forest and hills when it only has one movement.

Oh it only has 1 move.. I thought I had given it 2. I'll update that in v1.1. Thanks Yoda.

BTW, does anyone find the UU overpowered?

Not for a couple of hours. Because the Outacite Ostenaco leaderhead isn't finished because of Unexisted's odd absense, I shall be using SprincruS's Cherokee Nation flag leaderhead he made which I requested. I have to touch up the pediaicons.txt and civilopedia.txt and then I'll upload tonight. Hold your horses.

I know, I saw. He hasn't replied to my reply to that thread. His mod only included one era of Ostenaco, I want all four.. so sorry to say I won't release it until Unexisted has replied. If I can't get all four then I will use the only one or use the Cherokee Nation flag leaderhead created by SpincruS.

Sorry about the delay. But to make up for this I have also changed many things around, including unit values. I have also added the Ethiopians to the mod. Now you get the Cherokee, Austrians, and Ethiopians and UU to go with them.

This mod was once downloadable but I removed it until Outacite Ostenaco's leaderhead is finished.. that'll hopefully be soon and this mod will be available to download. I want my first project to be perfect.. :)

Sorry for the wait everyone.

When the Leaderhead is done I'll add encorporate your mod somewhere in a future version of Far Horizons Mobilize.

Do you need city names for this mod? I once drove through Cherokee, North Carolina. Nearby was the Nantahala National Forest, and there was a Nantahala River too. :)

Isn't Seneca an Iroquois name?

The Seneca were part of the Iroquois Confederation. However the Cherokee had a town called Seneca, I don't know if it has any relation, but geographically it wasn't close at all to the Seneca who were located in modern day Canada and Seneca was in South Carolina.

The Seneca called themselves Onotowaka, so probably it was (like so many other things) a mix-up on the part of European geographers/historians. "Iroqouis" is another mix-up, it means "real snakes" (lol) and was a sort of racial epithet their enemies called them (real name was Haudenosaunee, People of the Longhouse).
The Seneca were in the US btw, as with the rest of the Confederacy, along the south shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, extending up to the Thousand Islands area of the St. Lawrence, but primarily centered in what is now northern NY state. Only a small fraction of their traditional territory lay in Canada although they did establish some colonies beyond their normal range after the fur trade got established. To the north of the Iroquois were the Huron, who at one point dominated what is now Quebec and parts of eastern Ontario.

I think the mix-up of names might have something to do with the Tuscarora (real name Skaruren - "hemp folk"!). They were pushed out of the Carolinas by settlers around 1710, fled over the Appalachians, and wound up in Iroquois territory in 1722, joining the Confederacy and becoming the Sixth Nation. It's quite likely they were in contact with the Cherokee, whose traditional home along the borders between Georgia and Carolinas I think? They were sure to have been in contact as their traditional lands are fairly nearby to each other.

I'm rather sketchy on the history of groups in the southern and western US (like the Cherokee, or the Plains groups) so I'm not really sure if I'm placing the Cherokee right, or where exactly in the Carolinas the Tuscarora homeland would have been before the 1700s. What I've heard (not sure how reliably) is that the Tuscarora were centered in the Appalachians right around where the North Carolina/Virginia border hits the foothills, and extending a bit onto the coastal lowlands, and the Cherokee ranged to the south and west of the southern tip of the Appalachians, in the northern part of Georgia and the west part of South Carolina (before the Trail of Tears, that is). If that's right they were practically next door neighbours at one point, so it's possible that's where the word came from perhaps?

I'm not too familiar with the Cherokee really, how exactly were they organized? Was it a confederation of tribes, or just one really large tribe?

Hmm .. good intro .. but I'm not really all that clear on the "seven matrilineal clans" - were these separate groups at one time (which would make the Cherokee a confederation?) Or an internal division which had always existed?

Yes.. I am soon going to release an .exe with the Cherokee replacing the Byzantines and Austria replacing the Sumerians. Is this alright.

Just for you're information, I refuse to replace the Zulu or the Koreans because they are worthy of their position in the game and are in starting locations which would be bare without them.

very sorry to wake the thread, but there are some loose ends here
1)at times the Cherokee had contact with the Iroquois and considered themselves a part of the Iroquois

2)the Cherokee were and are not a confederation,

3)if anyone can give me the files for this mod, i will gladly attempt to finishit
