For those who are interested:

Civilopedia entry (reflects as if they are barbarians)

#PRTO_Dire Wolf
^
^
^The [Dire Wolves] are natural enemies which can attack your units at any time and early in the game pose
a serious threat to any army.
#DESC_Dire Wolf
^
^
^The dire wolves were ancient carnivores found mostly in Ice Age sites. The dire wolf is commonly associated with the gray wolf. Although similiar in overall size and mass to a modern gray wolf The dire wolf had a larger head, and shorter legs. The dire wolf's teeth were more massive than those of a gray wolf, as well smaller brains. The dire wolves were likely not good runners. As well had a scavenging nature, scattering bones of prey or already
dead animals, and reflect more a modern day hyena than a gray wolf.

And my recommended stats:
same as warrior, but replaces warrior as "basic barbarian" unit (general settings in editor)

beautifull! Nice barbe units indeed

I think it would look weird if you saw "Sir, our village was ransacked by Phoenician dire wolves!". I would personally use them in actual scenarios, deep in the forests as immobile units that guard valuable resources.

You can change that text (it's in script or labels.txt), so that it says something else even without barbarian name ie. in my mod it says something like "Our village was raided by evil forces".
If you want to use animals etc. as barbs I guess you can just throw out the name variable so it will say "...ransacked by dire wolves!".

Jan 02, 2004, 01:15 PM
Or you could change the Barb Tribe names to adjectives like 'dastardly' 'bloodthirsty' etc. and retain the name variable.

actually the names are in the editor, civilizations>Barbarians>tribe names ("city names" for civilizations)

but in scripts it has the....... the "code for tribe name" has ransancked our village

embryodead
Jan 02, 2004, 03:26 PM
I know the names are in the editor but in script.txt you can change the script so that the names don't appear at all (remove the $ variable and put one fixed word in its place).

Well i liked the idea of using adjectives

so here is a list

bloodthirsty
brutal
brutish
cruel
fell
feral
fierce
frightful
grim
lupine
merciless
pitiless
predatory
rapacious
ravening
ravenous
relentless
ruthless
sanguinary
savage
truculent
unmerciful
untamed
vehement
vicious
voracious

(civ 3 version) and a modified script file, instead of something like "the vicious tribe has destroyed our city walls" you will get "the vicious animals have destroyed our city walls
click this (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/script1.txt)

-Don't forget to back up ur orginal one, and ptw and c3c maybe the same but i dunno, i'll look into that later

---Embryo btw i've been playing ur warhammer mod that i got a while ago pertty kewl,

the idea of adjectives is actually very good if you have that many :) I'll include it in warhammer mod, sounds better than the same text every time.

aaminion00
Jan 02, 2004, 05:35 PM
yeah a list of adjectives would be good..

Jan 03, 2004, 01:14 AM
rock on, well theres ur list, and yea i think that censored one might start with a b, lol, some of those words would sound weird in the sentance though a "hard wolf destroyed our city walls" meh, thanks for doing all the work though man! :goodjob:

aaminion00
Jan 03, 2004, 09:24 AM
well actually since the number of barbarian tribes has to be an exact number, we'll have to take a few out. Does anyone know exactly how many barbarian tribes there must be? 81?

Fantastic work!

Did you make it yourself? - I dreamed to get the ice Age great breasts in my Stone Age scenarious, but I m unable to draw the units. - And here were you have post the best animal unit I ever saw. THANK YOU ! :-)

May it be so that you are possibly interested in creation other Megafauna creatures? - Like Smilodon fatalis (the greatere sabertooth) or long legged Homotherium serum (lesser and solitar saber-tooth/scimitar-cat) or even eremotherium (the most gigantic New World animal ever - ground sloth, 20 feet tall when on his hid legs, 33 feet - vertical reach) or famous mammothes/elephants?

That woud be fantastic... Especiall given your superb-quality graphics.

Best wishes and thanks!

@Miracinonyx
I made the unit, though it's not drawing, but 3D animation, for which I need 3D models. Wolf comes with the 3D program package, but I don't have any animals you listed, nor have seen their models available anywhere. If a mammoth was available, I would surely do it, since I'd like to replace war elephant with war mammoth in my mod. I'll try to add brown fur to elephant and see if it works.

Hello Embriodead,

Thanks for reply and info. Actually if yopu could do just a wild african elephant (without any rider or cloak whatever) that would also count good for Ice Age megafoun since this species was present during Ice Age/Stone Age in both Africa and Miffle east and st times - even in Southern Europe.

As for the mammoth - there are some very important hints to that unit in comparison to elephants: mammoth ears were 1/10 of the size of the African elephant's, their tusks were twice as large and inward-curved and also mammoths had very specific silouette - sloping back line as their front legs were 50% longer than hind legs and above shoulders they had very high hump of fat. Also their fur was over 1 m long and on their foreheads there was a fringe of tough black hairs. They were also a little bit smaller than the African elephants - approaching in size to modern Indian elephant (in fact indian and mammoths are closer relatives that Indian and African).

I don't know if it can be useful for you but still... :-)

embryodead, I have added your Dire Wolf as a Barbarian in my MOD and wanted to provide you with these New Fortify and Run Sounds I made for it.

I have Game Tested the sounds and the Run should work with any move setting. Difficult to adjust the Run sounds especially without .amb files to use. The "step sounds" for the Dire Wolf Run are in the background of the "Growel/Pant" type sound I ended up making because the Steps alone could not be adjusted to fit the unit alone accurately. Anyway, the "Growel/Pant" Run sound seems to offer the Dire Wolf an Ominous or Dangerous note of Impending Doom that IMO works out well.

If you Like these sounds, feel free to add them and use as you wish. Thanks Again for this Wolf Unit.

I'm definitely using is as a barbarian unit for my Final Fantasy Mod (although I might call it a "Kalm Fang" or "Niebel Wolf" to keep with the whole FF theme;) )
