Tzar Sasha Jan 03, 2004, 11:32 PM This is the Borg Tacticle Cube it has been designed for use in the StarTrek Mod for CivIII Conquests
New animations previews to come. Check back soon.
EDIT: Graphics and descriptions of versions 1 & 2 were removed because they no longer represent the unit animations.
EDIT: Version 1 & 2 zip files were replaced by BorgTAC3.zip (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/BorgTAC3.zip)
I would like to thank The Morpheous for providing me with the 3D model and the tutorials for OpenFX.
A Viking Yeti Jan 03, 2004, 11:41 PM Nice :goodjob:, very big though. Have you tried it in game?
Tzar Sasha Jan 03, 2004, 11:52 PM Not yet, I just got enough done to post. I know it's big, but TheMorpheous and I talked about the size and it was concluded that the players of the mod will have to understand that Borg ships cover more space than other race ships. Each race's ship that falls within the same class will be the same width/length. The Borg are no exception to that rule. But I will try and see if I can kick Persian behind in anicent earth :)

TheMorpheus Jan 04, 2004, 07:19 PM Great work, looks fine :goodjob:
CornMaster Jan 05, 2004, 07:38 AM Looks good. :)
Supa Jan 05, 2004, 07:51 AM Wow, it's big o_O
Tzar Sasha Jan 21, 2004, 06:47 PM EDIT: Image removed no longer represents unit animation
CornMaster Jan 22, 2004, 03:08 PM I really don't think it should appear to fall out of the sky....if possible it should probably rotate and explode...
TheMorpheus Jan 22, 2004, 04:50 PM I'm confirming with CornMaster's opinion, the ship shouldn't fall.
The explosion looks very good in the first frames, but why it don't expand? It look's like an implosion. I think it's better if the explosion expands a little bit and changes the color and disintegrate.
I rendered a sample explosion, how I think a Borg unit could explode.

horsematrix Jan 23, 2004, 12:11 PM looks a little big how does it look in the game can anyone let me know?
Supa Jan 23, 2004, 04:14 PM Hum. There IS a preview in game below.
Tzar Sasha Jan 23, 2004, 10:28 PM EDIT: Image removed. No longer represents unit animation.
TheMorpheus Jan 24, 2004, 12:22 PM Looks good :goodjob:.
Only one suggestion, the explosion looks a little bit to regular, perhaps you could add a sub explosion to the existing one.
Supa Jan 24, 2004, 01:55 PM Indeed, the second one is much better, but too regulary (?)
The end is too pixelised (? again)

INI file
Readme.txt
Neomega Jul 11, 2004, 02:41 AM I'm posting a newer version of this unit. Version 2 will still be available for use if that version is prefered over this one. I have been learning how to use OpenFX to create units and this is my first "test" unit with that program. I will provide some animation samples sometime tomorrow.

Ive seen your new attack and such (in the OPen FX thread) and it is sweet, (even though I dislike Star Trek). I would suggest ditching the old models and previews, and posting new ones via the uploads file.
Kenta'arka Jul 11, 2004, 06:42 AM I took a look in Flicster, and I really like the new attack anim. :goodjob:
But the death anim looks weird, and the default needs a little movement, maybe the cube could rotate 1-2° and move back?

I know the death is a little weird. I ran out of room in my palette for non-civ colors and was forced to put some of the green of the plasma explosions into the civ color area. I'm still working on a better palette.... As far as the default I wasn't sure what to do so I left it as a single frame flc.
EDIT: I took your suggestion and made a new default with some movement. Also redid the death animation. It think it is much better now. A little civ color made it into the plasma explosion, but that must be survivable (not as much as the previous death sequence).
Here is the new zip file BorgTAC3.zip (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/BorgTAC3.zip)
Tzar Sasha Jul 11, 2004, 08:03 PM Here are the promised animation previews. They are self created in alpha-blend mode. You can see all the detail and colors that will be in game. However the speed is not what it is in game. To see the correct speed I suggest you download the zip file (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/BorgTAC3.zip) and view it in Flicster or in game.
Previews are Default, Attack, and Death.
unscratchedfoot Jul 11, 2004, 08:25 PM That's kinduv cool. I like all those Star Trek ships just can't use them. I used to play the star trek PC games and they really fun and well designed.
Goldflash Jul 11, 2004, 08:53 PM The death kinda looks like a Stoplight gone wrong. Otherwise it is nice
Kenta'arka Jul 12, 2004, 05:04 AM I agree with Goldflash, the Death is a bit too colorful. But the default is good, unfortunately a few hours too late for the new Star Trek Mod version :(

Now that you mention it. I guess it does. The green is a plasma explosion. The large explosion should be standard fireball (OpenFX term) colors. The smaller one had been a plasma explosion, but I thought it needed to be different. Too bad the ship is so big that I have to use more than two explosions to cover it up.
I can always do it again. Give me some more ideas and I'll try it to do it...
Vadus Jul 13, 2004, 09:29 AM there could be some little explosions on the hull, until the hole cube brokes into several pieces :goodjob:
