I was at war with the Japanese, and they had only one city left. I decided to try and make peace just to see what they'd give me. I said to them "My troops approach your cities... etc." and they replied "War! Huh -- Good god, ya'll! What is is good for? Absolutely nothing! I'd be happy to make peace with you." :)

I got from Hannibal: "Despite the rumors spread by my enemies, I am not a cannibal. Come closer."

I noticed on a couple occasions that the makers of the game must be huge fans of Kenny Rogers and The Beatles. Mao once said to me in a game, after wanting to make peace, "You've got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them". He must enjoy gambling with his life. :p

As for the Beatles, I think it was when I was quitting the game (I can't remember exactly), but it had some lyrics to a Beatles song. That put a smile on my face. :)

I play as the Celts all the time, so i never get to see their comments, so i made a game as someone else and made sure they ewre an AI civ, (I love how Brennus speaks Gaelic! :D ) and when i asked him for a loan of gold he goes:

"I'm sorry, Hannibal, but we're planning on using our money for much more sacred things. Bring on the alcohol!" This is partially funny because alcohol actually was part of the ancient Celtic religions.

In a very early game, before I realized that breaking treaties was a no-no, I repeatedly attacked India whenever they tried to plant a city on "my" continent. When I later tried to make a deal with the Greeks, Alexander replied, "After the way you hosed India?!" Cracked me up.

Cunobelin (spelling) of the celts seems to have a fascination for his naked warriors. When ever i asked him to leave my territory he would tell me he has informed his naked warriors to leave, or he was sorry that I found their nakedness to be disturbing. After a few turns of this I decimated the naturist with my armour clad army :goodjob:

Also on the celts, i accidently asked them for some money and he said he couldnt give me any as the money was earmarked for a religious festival...then he added "bring on the alcohol". :goodjob:

I got this from Korea in GoTM 26 in early December. :D

I had just finish capturing the 6th Korean city (they had 10 when the war started) and was about to make a peace deal to extract the last remaining techs of the AA.

FYI, Korea is dark purple (at the top of the left landmass) and I am light blue.

lol the first time my advisor said that I was on the floor.

I caught my military advisor saying "Hail to the Saint, baby!" while I was playing as France.

I got into a nuke war with the whole world (don't ask) and when i tried to nuke America their SDI zapped my ICBM, and my military advisor said: "Our expensive nuclear missile has been destroyed by their ^$&(&#^*)(&$ space defense!" Or something very close to that. :D :nuke:

Not sure if this has been posted, but when you talk to Henry he tells you to enjoy fine wine and fresh fish from the waters of Portugal. For one thing, he's in the desert, but also if I enter diplomacy and make a demand, Henry says: "I would not even give you a box of rotten fish!"

So I clicked the "Our armies approach your cities" diplomacy button to see if they'd listen - I just wanted to see what they'd offer since I still had an MA with Persia against them. The reply was:

"Your snarls frighten and bewilder us, Brennus. We will submit."

From a Viking! Catherine calling Hannibal a "Jumped up little fool" was pretty good too.

Well, now that this thread has been necroed, might as well keep up the necro-age and get (slightly) back on topic:

Playing in a mod I made years ago and recently updated for Conquests to play again, I was engaging in a pretty one sided war against ol' "Honest" Abe when up pops the diplomacy screen. Abe is offering me peace in exchange for mountains of gold and a few techs. But the kicker was his quotation: "I know it's crooked, but it's the only game in town." Real honest my ass! I proceeded to burn down that most unhealthy town and move onto a more ethical town :)
