View Full Version : Unit preview: ICBM Silo

Well, I don't have an animated preview yet. Here is what I'm going to make: a missile silo that sits in your city. When you launch the ICBM, it first opens, and then raises the ICBM out, before launching it. This is more realistic than the missile just sitting there, pointing up, and then launching. This way the missile is protected underground. I'll give you an animated preview as soon as I can (ie once I start the animation).

Ooh..sounds interesting. I can't wait. So this silo is basically a unit which protects the ICBM and launches it?

Yup. During the cold war, the United States (and probably the Soviet Union as well) build massive housing facilities for their nuclear weapons, to protect them from being destroyed but enemy nuclear weapons. Mostly what you will see is a slab of protection concrete, but in the attack, the ICBM will be raised, and then launched (the only change to the launch will be adding the silo in in the first few frames).

Ah, just to add some realism? I'm still looking forward to this. Perhaps you should do this to Krazeensbk (sp?)'s R-17 and Atlas ICBMs.

Maybe I should make an alternative version with his. I'll PM him and ask. If he says yes, I'll make three: ICBM, Atlas, R-17.

If you do all 3 we got the realest looking Cold War nukes.

Hmm... I'm encoutering a problem relating to the INIs, but I should be able to fix it.

Yes, you can do it to my missiles. It's the R-7 btw ;)

Answering here because your PM inbox is full Gogf, you should consider cleaning it up.

Just want to ask how you plan to implement this, however. As part of the default and launch animations?

Yes, I know. I just wanted to make my own.

@Krayzeenbk, I thought is was the R-7, but when A Viking Yeti said it was R-17.... Yes, this will be worked into the launch animation. Where is the launch animation in the INI? I can't find it.

I posted in the other thread, it is listed under capture= in the PTW/C3C ini.

Oh, okay. I can't find the one for the ICBM though... I will though, don't worry. Meanwhile, I'm cleaning out my PM box :).

i tested this, and you cant kill a nuke with another nuke. i nuked this chinese city like 50 times, and i stole their plans before, and the nuke just wont die! i blasted it so many times, that there was no possible way for anything to survive in real life, but the nukes did

Well, that's not good.... But, it will still look good with a protective silo. I'm close to having a preview ready for you guys.

Sounds interesting, Gogf. But it was Mobilize that said it was the R-17, not me . In fact, this is my first post on this thread.

i think it would be better if you just made a city improvement as silo and added tit to the animation, because the silo would be prerequisite of the missile

Really, do whatever you want with it, I'm just making the graphics. I should have default done today.

@Gogf: There is a second ICBM folder in the Civ3PTW\Art\units directory. The vanilla ini does not have a launch animation specified, because back then there were no launch animations. Check your PTW ICBM folder, you will see that the animation is specified there.

Oh. Thanks. This silo was on hold, because of this problem, but now, it's back on track!
