i'll play, w/ a huge world this game is likely to take forever, with 8 players we'll be lucky to get 1 turn / day. I'll take Americans, but only if this does remain a huge map & 8 players, if either of those change i will want to change my civ.

NO A.P!!!!

Shucks, i was going to vote for AP :(

I'd like a normal world, i.e. temperate, 4 billion yrs, normal climate.
Either archipeligo or continents, no pangea.
60 or 70 % water coverage.
prefer no respawn AI in case we dont get 8 humans & end up w/ AI civs.
prefer no culturally linked starts
prefer allow cultural conversions.

Note, these are preferences, not demands.

I'm not married to no AP, but it looks like I wasn't alone...it's not a dealbreaker issue for me, just a preference.

I'm running 1.13 still.

OK, so it seems this would be the logical order (and I'm not trying to take over, salts_pikey, just trying to speed things up):

1. fanste - Zulu - fanste_28@hotmail.com (GMT+9)
2. blocki - Persia - jescar2@web.de (GMT+1)
3. salts_pikey - Ottomans - salts_pikey@hotmail.com (GMT)
4. kiwiandy - Maya - andy@laptopz.fsnet.co.uk (GMT)
5. dogboy - Random - greeneclan@hotmail.com (GMT-5)
6. purvisxiii - Portugal - purvisxiii@cox.net (GMT-6)

actually, w/ salts_pikey hosting he is automatically first player, so, IMHO, we need 2 go:

1. salts_pikey - Ottomans - salts_pikey AT hotmail.com (GMT)
2. kiwiandy - Maya - andy AT laptopz.fsnet.co.uk (GMT)
3. dogboy - Random - greeneclan AT hotmail.com (GMT-5)
4. purvisxiii - Portugal - purvisxiii AT cox.net (GMT-6)
5. predesad - America - predesad AT yahoo.com (GMT-6)

7. fanste - Zulu - fanste_28 AT hotmail.com (GMT+9)
8. blocki - Persia - jescar2 AT web.de (GMT+1)

I doubt this game will ever get going. And if it does get going it will never last. We have a player from this game in another game and he never takes his turn. In fact, he just dropped out for this reason:

i will have to drop out of this one.

too many real life commitments.

besides, we will be here next year trying to finish it.

really

cant

be

bothered

Have fun, and get out more.

If everybody wants me to start this game, I will be happy to. Or if somebody else (who knows who really won't play their daily turn) wants to start it, feel free to do so.

It mirrors that exatcly. Since Vancouver started the game, he is player one. Then he sends it to fanste, then blocki, then it goes up to the top. Since salts_pikey isn't included, it goes to the next person which is kiwiandy. Looks good to me.

kiwiandy
Jan 24, 2004, 10:13 AM
Well, the no. 1 player took too long to start the game, then it emerged that he often holds things up so it was decided to proceed without him. So 6. Vancouver2010 started and sent the turn to 7, who sent it to 8, who sent it to me at 2. When I get a correct SAV I will play it and send it to 3, who will then send it to 4, who will then send it to 5, and the cycle will begin again.

I still haven't received blocki's second attempt at giving me a correct SAV.

predesad
Jan 24, 2004, 04:06 PM
Right, loaded the SAV but it came up: "Not a valid SAV file". Blocki, please can you replay your turn and resend me the save?

i have had this same exact problem b4, it occurs when the other player saves or attaches the file as something other than a SAV file. i have always had to have the player resend the turn. so unless someone knows how to convert a file into a SAV file, blocki u r going 2 have 2 resend him the turn making sure u send it as a SAV file, u might not have 2 replay, my opponents didnt, but then again, u might.

Ok, this is getting crazy. It has been almost a week and we are still on turn 1.

tell me about it, i haven't even seen the game yet. this is a huge world, right? unless settings were changed @ which point i'm going 2 b a little upset because i had stated if the world did not stay huge i wanted 2 change my civ, dont want 2 try the americans on anything but a huge world. anyway, got off track, this is a huge world, going to take a long time, & there's 7 players.

Not trying to rush you, but blocki, if u have not done so already, please resend to kiwiandy.

To fix it is really quite simple. A valid save file will say something like "game.SAV" An invalid save file will only say "game". This happens sometimes when you try to save the game using other than the default such as "gungho of the germans3500BC.SAV". Just go to the file and rename it to have the .SAV on the end. Let's get this going!

predesad
Jan 24, 2004, 04:14 PM

Also, let's hope we don't have moomentum either. I bring this up because the momentum tests that I had in Physics 11 and 12 were all cow-themed (or cow product-themed). Seriously. the American peasants are concerned about the rest of the world having such a head start on their empire. However, emporer Predesad has reminded them the original American nation is one of the youngest, yet rose to be a super power, and the emporer is very capable of doing the same.

The Canadian transition will be completed once all remaining citizens accept their new identity. 50-100 years required.

This morning I was sitting in my throne room, enjoying the beautiful view out my window, the nice river running adjacent to the palace property, abundant cows in nearby pastures, a wheat farm over there, sugar next to the wheat farm, a vineyard growing next to the sugar, an excellent supply of wine, forest nearby for the children to play, as well as a good supply of furs, those elephants next to the forest giving us a nice supply of ivory, a horse ranch just beyond the pastures, our iron mine in distant hills, other forests from whence the women collect silks for weaving, and then dyes to enhance their work, and finally that one spot of almost useless property which nicely supplies incense to our priests, I surveyed all of this and I thought, "Life is good."

Emporer Predesad leaves his throne room and retires to His Royal Chambers on the other side of the Palace. From there he looks out that palace window and enjoys that magnificent view. From here he can see more forest, home to the precious spices which enhance the flavor of the royal meals and the wild game which occassionally serves as the main course. A couple hills supplying gems to decorate his crown and gold to make him wealthy. Just beyond those hills is a nice piece of grassland, home to the tobacco, he uses this often. And then of course is the lovely view of the sea, oh how he loves to watch the waves crash against the beach, he cannot wait for warmer weather so he can enjoy a good swim. Of course no matter the weather, he enjoys the excellent supply of fish year round and the whaling business has also been very profitable.

whenever i get the turn again, i have patched to ver 1.20 so at least from that point on everyone else will need to patch

although for some reason i think it is irrelevant to this game because it is dying, bring out the shcoker thingies, charging, clear, (zap) sorry still no pulse, almost ready to pronounce...

DogBoy
Apr 04, 2004, 08:41 AM
Ok, what is the deal on finding a replacement? If it's going to to take this long, we need to just retire his civ. All you have to do is send the turn to the game host, he logs in with the admin password, retires the civ, and passes the game along. This is getting ridiculous. This game had so much potential except for one player. Now that the one player is gone, we need to get this game rolling along again.

Also, we need to be using the 1.20 patch. The 1.22 patch doesn't work.

kiwiandy
Apr 04, 2004, 09:01 AM
I'm definitely keen to carry this game on, it's been going sweetly until now. I don't know why Mickeyj never showed up, he's usually good like that, but there you go.

Lets just retire Blocki's civ then unless someone else is found within 24 hours?

Also, I've heard there are issues with both the 1.22 and 1.20 patch with respect to multiplayer. It might be best to stick with 1.15 until Friaxis has sorted this patch debacle out.

DogBoy
Apr 04, 2004, 09:18 AM
The only problem about the patch is most everybody has already upgraded to the 1.20 patch. It would by silly to require everybody to go back to using the 1.15 patch and having two versions of civ3 on their computer. But since nobody is using 1.22 patch (impossible if they have been playing PBEM), then it makes sense to use the 1.20 patch.

kiwiandy
Apr 04, 2004, 09:48 AM
I haven't upgraded yet, as I read there were MAJOR problems with 1.20 and multiplayer. Therefore what's the point in playing with 1.20???

DogBoy
Apr 04, 2004, 10:44 AM
Yes, 1.20 has problems, but it is playable. The "point" in playing with 1.20 is almost everybody (I know not everybody) has already patched to 1.20 before we knew it had bugs in it. Since most people have already upgraded to 1.20, it would be easier for the remaining few to patch to 1.20, then it would be for the majority to delete the game, reinstall it, d/l the 1.15 patch for this game, and the 1.20 patch for other games, and run two versions of civ3. Other than that, there is no benefit to running 1.20. It simply makes sense because most people have already got it.

predesad
Apr 04, 2004, 05:46 PM
there are good fixes in 1.20, the major problems are in multiplayer, not PBEM, but in multiplayer, though there are problems as always but not major that i know of, if you are going to play multi you should go with 1.22, but not if you want to continue with curretn PBEM because it wont load games from 1.20. I dont really care as far as this game is concerned, i am at 1.20, if you dont want to go to 1.20 retire my civ or get a replacement for me, like that is going to happen we spent 37 days trying to get a replacement for the last guy, emporer predesad is tired of staring off into the distance and seeing nothing anyway, just put the Americans out of their misery.

Apr 05, 2004, 03:51 AM
Here's how you do it. If you have 1.15, just copy your entire conquest folder. Now you have a folder called conquests (you always had this folder), and a folder called copy of conquest. The copy of conquests folder will be your 1.15 folder. Now download the 1.20 patch and install it. Your regular folder will be your 1.20 folder. Pretty simple.

kiwiandy

Right, what is going on with this game??

There seems to be a distinct lack of enthusiasm for it, evidenced in the amount of time it takes for us to complete a single turn, and I am this close to chucking in the towel.

We’ve had to make a few changes to the players, but from what I can gather the turn order is now this:

Vancouver -> fansite -> kiwiandy -> dogboy -> purvisxiii -> CivAddict.

So people, lets now decide if this game is worth carrying on:

1. Can you spare 5 minutes per day? (to check your email, play the turn, send the friggin thing on).
2. Are you willing to post on this thread once you have sent your turn? (so we can all see where the turn is, who is dicking around, and so we can ultimately avoid more weeks of wasted time).
3. Are you willing to let us all know if you won’t be around for a while? (obvious I know but sadly needs to be mentioned).

If we can all answer yes to the above, then great, lets rock.
If you can’t commit to the game in this fashion, then tell us now.

May 20, 2004, 01:18 PM
I'm in, and from now on I will be posting the save on this board in addition to sending it via e-mail. Hey Vancouver, who do you send the game to? That one download was me downloading it to make sure I wasn't the one holding the game up. Whoever you send the game to either doesn't know he's supposed to download it, or doesn't come here anymore. My recommendation is this: find out who is holding this game up and retire their civ. I know it's fun to have more people in the game but not at the expense of not being able to play the game.

DogBoy
May 23, 2004, 08:20 PM
Vancouver, it is my recommendation that whoever you send the game to needs to be dropped from the game. I recommend that you do the following:
-Retire that person's civ because he's not checking his e-mails and he's not visiting this board.
-Send the turn to the next person and also post it here.
-Put out an updated player list with e-mails with the replacements. The only replacement I can think of is civaddict took over Predesad's place.

Just my recommendations to keep this game moving.

Unfortunately however a few of us still aren't posting when they've played and sent. To reiterate - this needs to happen so we can all see who has the turn. If it doesn't happen, then we won't have the coordination necessary to make this a worthwhile game and it will fizzle out into nothing.

Please lets keep this very promising game going!!
Post when you've played people!!

I am going out of town Saturday afternoon and will be back Sunday evening. Times are east coast USA. Have a good weekend.

But I know where the game is at so I probably won't be missed.

The save has been with purvisxiii for about a week and he hasn't bothered to post his absence or anything.

Lets delete him. DogBoy, please can you resend your turn to Vancouver so he can retire his civ.

Enough pissing around.

alright the save has now turned up.

apologies for the pissed off tone of my above post, but i really can't understand why some of us are so reluctant to post when they've sent. it would certainly help a lot in keeping this game moving.

I agree. Played and sent. Now we will see who doesn't post or send the game in a timely manner.

Apparently... :mischief:

Now if I were in Windows right now, I'd play and send it immediately. But I'm in Linux (fulfilling my need to write PHP code), so I'll send it by the end of the day.

Vancouver, I'm guessing you never played your turn because you never posted here that you did. Also, you haven't posted in our other game where you are the host that you ever played your turn even you have had it for the last 4 days. If you can't or don't want to continue with the game, could you please retire your civ and send the game along?

Well excuse me if I don't always post when I send the game...

I sent it two days ago to the email address of fanste's replacement (speckyrules@hotmail.com).

The problem is we are trying to figure out who is stopping the game. This game has been so crappy because everybody swears they are not holding up the game. But obviously somebody keeps holding it up and the only way to figure out who it is, is to post "played and sent" and we can track who holds the game up for days, drop them, and keep this game going.

Specky: Did you ever get the save?

I hate to say it, but this game is probably dead. It is for me at least. It's a shame too because it had such potential to be a good game.

My following comments are not directed at everybody in this game. If you know I'm not talking to you, you should be ok with them. If I happen to hurt your feelings, then chances are they are directed at you.

I really don't care if I hurt anybody's feelings here, but some people are just (fill in the blank) when it comes to playing these games. They show complete lack of respect for the other players. They are lower than (fill in the blank) in my book. But wait you say, "It's just a game!" That's true, it is just a game. But it's also more than that. You have people that are expecting something from you based upon your word. You gave your word to check your e-mail once a day, and if the turn was there, play it and send it along. If you were going to be gone, i.e. out of town on business or vacation, you would post that here and everything would be ok. So that's why I think some of these people (fill in the blank). They give their word to do a simple task, and they can't even do that. Their word is (fill in the blank) and the only thing they are good for in life (fill in some menial task). (I used to do that so if I hurt your feelings, so what.) If you can't be trusted to do one simple task like playing your turn and sending the game along, how can you be trusted to do complex tasks like teach my kids in school, police the highways in your patrol car, sell medicine at a pharmacy, or any other job that (fill in the blank). The answer is, you can't. You should feel embarassed if you signed up to play this game and don't check your e-mail, go out of town without giving the rest of us notice, or are simply too lazy to play your turn. Hey, if you are busy with work because the boss is riding your back, or if you are busy with school because finals are coming up, or if you are taking a vacation with the family now that the kids are out of school, no problem. Just let us know. And going back to the arguement of "It's just a game!" Well if it just a game, then play it. And if you don't want to play it, retire your civ and let the rest of us play.

I will get down from my soapbox now and play my other PBEMs with (fill in the blank) than there are in this game.
