This sucker is dragging on. 3 civs, huge world, continents, 5 billion years old, Warlord.
I started off pretty badly in this game. I never figured out colonies (until Dan explained them in another thread) and am still struggling with the fact that I basically don't have any control over my economy :( .. Since I also didn't figure out how buy stuff in production, I was in a pretty distant third until 1600AD. I had about 20 cities on a large continent. The Iriquois had about 30 but covered less land area. Once I got that figured out how to buy things in production though, I started doing the ICS thing and now have control of well over half my continent and am massing an military. Suddenly things have picked up all over and you might even say I am going through my 'Golden Age'. I've just about pulled even in tech and maybe even slightly ahead (we are all around the Magnetism/Banking era. I have doubled my cities in just about 20 turns and am starting to put cultural pressure on any neighbors. The othe civ is a surprising aggresive japanese Civ.
I was actually ready to quit but decided to try a few more rounds to see if it could still be salvaged. Not only did the addiction kick in, but I have done quite a bit of salvaging. I might still win this game!
Some comments:
I miss being able to devote resources to building up a savings, investing in happiness, or investing in my future (Science). Without this kind of fine control, I am now totally dependent on City improvements which is unrealistic, but I guess will do. I really enjoyed the control over my economy that CivI and II gave though.
The manual should really be written by a proffessional technical writer who themself has played the game atleast a dozen times without anybody else's help (so they would know what THEY would look for in an index).
I like the music and I like the fireworks over your cities when you hit WLTP day.
I'll be playing this game probably through the weekend.:egypt:
