View Full Version : New Wonder: The Book of Kells
AK47 Jan 07, 2004, 03:28 PM Here's one on request by KingArthur:
The Book of Kells
"The Work Not of Men but of Angels…" (Giraldus Cambrensis, c.1150 AD) - A treasure of Celtic culture - one of the most famous books in the history of the world. Completed in about 800 AD, it is the most elaborate manuscript of its kind to survive from the early Middle Ages.
I'd guess make it available with Theology, mainly for culture and happy faces? Other suggestions more than welcome.
Ta!

embryodead Jan 07, 2004, 03:38 PM Thanks :) I don't need The Book of Kells right now, but it will serve as another book in fantasy mod.
tjedge1 Jan 07, 2004, 04:40 PM :hmm: I wonder how I could use this in a fantasy mod. I'll figure out something when I get to wonders. Great job, I'll probably put it in my standard game mod as well. Which is a slightly adapted version of DyP's newest mod.
embryodead Jan 07, 2004, 05:27 PM Well in WH-Mod it will be "Liber Mortis" which is the first great book on necromancy, enabling healing in enemy territory (previously Raise Dead, which now produces undead).
KingArthur Jan 07, 2004, 06:20 PM It's great, thank you.
It's just a culture and happy-face wonder in my scenario and comes with monasticism.
Mobilize Jan 07, 2004, 06:43 PM The call Ireland the land of saints and scholars.
Without Ireland a lot of technology and documents wouldn't have been secured without the scholars of Ireland preserving them in the Book of Kells and similar records. Europe would have remained in it's Dark Age much much longer.
I might use this in my Irish Civil War scenario because in 1921 many papers similar to the Book of Kells were destroyed because of artillery bombardment by the Irish Free State.
Ankka Jan 09, 2004, 09:23 AM Nice one! :goodjob:
Especially the wondersplash is awesome.
AK47 Jan 28, 2004, 06:32 PM 'lo,
I was never completely satisfied with how this one turned out.
So I'm trying to change it a little.
This is what it looks like at the moment. B4/after
Comments ???
spincrus Jan 28, 2004, 08:28 PM The one with the shadow looks much better IMHO. It's great either way though. And the splash is good quality, too.
embryodead Jan 28, 2004, 11:48 PM hah, and I was thinking if I should complain about the lack of shadows :p
It looks much better now!
AK47 Jan 29, 2004, 01:21 AM OK - thanks.
But does it look finished now, or does it still look like it could use a little something ?
embryodead Jan 29, 2004, 02:21 AM These are really minor things but if you ask... I'd move the shadow of the book stand more to center and made the letters on second page smaller/lighter.
AK47 Jan 29, 2004, 02:41 AM Can I have 2-3 more opinions on this, before making final changes tonight ?
King Arthur, what do you think ?
AK.
Arne Jan 29, 2004, 02:52 AM I would prefer the version with shadows too. May be, you like to add some little lights?
AK47 Jan 29, 2004, 03:25 AM love it, but you're gonna have to help me out...
Arne Jan 29, 2004, 04:49 AM Will this BoKLarge.pcx be okay? Or do you need the *small.pcx too?
AK47 Jan 29, 2004, 05:14 AM I was thinking:
1/ I redo the bookstand shadow on my pcx
2/ send it to you
3/ you redo the book pages and lights
4/ send it back to me (large.pcx only)
5/ I update the .zip
Because I think you loose a lot of picture quality going from pcx to jpg to pcx, or am I wrong ? (can't check in PSP, as I'm at work now)
Arne Jan 29, 2004, 05:38 AM Well, you could post it here as attachement. (Becouse my CivII.de-email don't work corectly for some reasons). But if you ask me, I like th shadow like it is. It gives a little imagination of moving lights. But it is your Wonder. :)
Oh, if you post it, could you save as *.psp file (don't know, if you have to zip psp files in this forum)? And please let the layers be in and not merged if possible. This way it would be easyer and faster to change. :)
mrtn Jan 29, 2004, 07:17 AM To point out a minor thing (you asked, after all) I think that if the candles are gonna be lit, then the shadows should be more to the left, just under the "candle stands".
It's still looking good, of course. :D

Arne Jan 30, 2004, 03:54 AM Oups, I took the wrong attachment... so here is Small version of that. And in the next post i like to attach a preview.
