View Full Version : Hidden Nationality
Bucephalus Jan 08, 2004, 06:56 AM It is my understanding that Privateers have hidden nationality, allowing me to decimate foreign shipping with impunity.
However, having just sank several Bizantine ships, I find that the very next turn they are 'furious' with me. They were previously 'polite'. Whats going on? Has anyone else experienced this?

Did you or the Byzantines also happen to go through a change in government, did you plop a settlement down by one of their's, did you move ahead them suddenly in tech, etc?

I can discount all of the above except a Byzantine change of govt., which would be a huge coincidence (though not impossible).
I never realised that moving ahead in tech could have the effect of altering 'mood'. Why is this?
Enkidu Warrior Jan 08, 2004, 09:53 AM The tech leader always gets frowned at by everyone, though not to the extent that they would automatically be furious with you. There are endless reasons why the Byzantines might be annoyed at you, but it certainly wasn't those privateers. There's an article on this site somewhere that breaks down precisely what affects the AI's mood, I suggest you track it down. Yell if you can't find it and I'll try to help you out.

xxyyzz Jan 08, 2004, 12:10 PM I asked a simular question in the custom forum: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1484311#post1484311
I use alot of ground based hidden nationality forces.
Bucephalus Jan 08, 2004, 03:34 PM I guess it must just be a coincidence then. Thanks Enkidu Warrior/ Dojoboy.
silver 2039 Jan 08, 2004, 04:08 PM When you attack with hidden nationality units it affects the AI's attuide with you. ( for the worse)
toh6wy Jan 08, 2004, 07:45 PM Yeah, I remember in the Sengoku conquest, whenever I attacked another clan w/ Ninjas, their attitude towards me would steadily decrease, so I would trade w/ them or make agreements w/ them to make their attitude towards me go up again, but then it would just keep going down b/c of the Ninjas. They even got mad at me when they attacked *my* units w/ Ninjas and lost!
Dragonlord Jan 09, 2004, 01:19 AM It was stated in older threads dating way back to vanilla Civ3 that using hidden nationality units DOES affect the AIs attitude towards you, but won't cause them to declare war.
It seems the AI 'suspects' that you are the guilty party, but won't retaliate without 'proof'... something like real life diplomacy, after all..
DaleSwanson Jan 09, 2004, 02:33 AM Is there anyway to check if they are getting mad at the other AI's? Perhaps they are just becoming suspicious of everyone, and thus not trusting them. Although I think I remember reading that there's no real way to see how an AI feels about another AI.
